Asheron laughed, his voice loud and clear. It masked a hint of disbelief as well as anger. His thoughts were all over the place, and he failed to point out the single most common reason for it. Was it because he was hearing nonsense about his brothers finding their supposed Fated mate, or was it because they got involved with one being that they despised the most? A spinless human woman was his brother's mate? How laughable. They were the Alphas that ruled over the biggest pack in the realm. Even if they had a mate, it would not be some puny human.
"And it is the same woman for both of them?" He asked just to make sure. This has never happened before, not even in their old scriptures. Mate Bond disappeared for his kind a long time ago. Even their parents were wolves that chose each other seeking convenience rather than matebond. It just didn't exist, "This is bullshit" he concluded in his mind. No way was any of this true. But a part of him hesitated as he looked at his Beta, Liam. The latter was not someone who said things like these before. Those eyes of his filled with conviction and confidence about his supposed finding being true made even Asheron take a step back in his mind. He had to make sure of this nonsense before it created more problems.
"Where is Eros?" He asked the men to know about his brother's stand on this. If finding his mate indeed made him lose control of his wolf and that too in public, Asheron wanted to hear it from his brother's own mouth instead of other hearsays, "Contact him and tell him to meet me....." His words came to a halt when he sensed his brother's presence near them. In a few minutes, Eros stepped inside the dungeon wearing a cheeky grin on his face.
"Yo, Broski!" Eros' jovial voice rang against the old dungeon walls contrasting the grim atmosphere around him. He was nonchalant about everything around him until his eyes fell on Samuel's chained body, "What the hell!?" Rage burned inside him as he turned to glare at them. His authoritative Alpha voice made everyone shiver except Asheron.
"I want to ask you the same thing, Ros" Asheron said as he looked directly at his brother's eyes, "What the hell happened to you in the club? Why were you in your wolf form for the world to see? Are you stupid!?"
Eros snarled at his brother. He didn't like getting disrespected by another Alpha but understood his error and calmed down. He knew it was his fault for slipping his mask before this human world. Because of those damn phones and cameras everywhere, it was easy to get caught up in a mess. However, he wanted to defend himself, "I didn't do it on purpose. I was drunk"
Asheron sighed, "So being drunk made you turn and chase after a human?"
"I did?" Eros asked not very sure about what had transpired. The only thing he remembered about that night was getting hit on his head. It hurt a lot, so whoever did it seemingly wanted to hurt him seriously. Rather than spiraling down that road, something else caught his ears, "I chased after a human?"
"Eros, Don't fuck with me" Asheron glowered.
Eros snapped at that, "I really don't remember you fucker" he was tired from this bizarre situation, "Yes, I met a human girl that day and tried to flirt with her, but that's it. I don't think I chased after her.....why would I?"
"Well, the CCTV footage says another story," Ash replied.
"Fuck that footage! Fuck everything!" Eros was losing his cool, "What does that have to do with Sam being like this?" Every second that passed with his brother in chains made him tick. This treatment was only reserved for himself. Not to the calm and rational Sam.
Asheron glanced at Sam behind the bars. The smell of iron hit his nose, and his fist clenched, seeing his brother in that condition, but he had no other choice than this, "He has lost control of his wolf. He was attacking anyone in his sight...." Eros looked at him as Ash added, "He attacked even me. And it was not something simple, Ros. He had fully intended to kill me. It was as though he was struggling to go somewhere"
Eros turned to the healer clearly expecting an answer to this sudden shift in Sam's behaviour. However, the one to answer it was Asheron, "I saw the footage of you going into a rampage. You were acting exactly like Sam is right now and the common thing between you two was that human girl"
"I don't understand. How does she matter?"
Asheron paused before parting his lips, "Ros, I want to test something out. Come with me." With that, he started walking, making Eros confused, but nevertheless, he followed his brother. Liam dismissed the others before following the lead with the healer by his side. The walk took only a short time and ended near the healer, Alyn's workshop. The latter glanced between the Alphas not understanding why they were brought here. There was nothing of importance here, nothing other than that Human.
Alyn's eyes went wide in terror. No way! No way was Alpha Asheron thinking about doing what he thought. It was risky to expose the human to Alpha Eros. Alyn thought of Elia as some kind of viral disease that would spread and create havoc in their tribe. His intuition, like always, proved him right when he saw Asheron opening the door to where Elia lay. She was injured and Alyn had taken his time to treat her before rushing back to stop Samuel's rampage.
Eros had an annoyed look on his face not understanding the situation. He hated being in the dark, "Go in" his annoyance doubled when Ash told him to enter the workshop. What could possibly be in there for him to be so serious.
Leaving a huff, he stepped inside the room only to freeze the very next second. His eyes got doused in a frenzy while his canines grew out. His gaze had only one vision in it. The familiar woman lying on the bed. Everything happened as fast as a flick of a switch.
"Mate...." A silent murmur left his mouth but Asheron heard it. The latter took action before anyone could blink. He left Eros' side and rushed towards Alyn before snatching the tranquilizer from his hand. Without thinking further, he sedated himself with the wolfsbane making his balance falter.
"Liam! Hold him back!" He roared orders making Liam move. Before Eros could reach Elia, the former held him dragging him away. It was not easy handling an Alpha by himself, but the healer came to the rescue by injecting Eros with wolfsbane.
An enraged snarl left Eros's throat as he flung Liam across the wall. The commotion quickly gained an audience, and guards reached the workshop. They tried to subdue their Alpha to no avail. Meanwhile, Asheron hesitantly glanced at the open door that he previously opened. He walked slowly, almost unwillingly until he saw what Eros had seen before going feral.
His head tilted to the side taking in the image of the weird creature on the bed. Rich brown hair and delicate features. She looked so tiny and vulnerable compared to them. She was nothing but a weakling, a puny human who did not deserve his attention, so why? Why the hell was he feeling like this seeing her? Even with wolfsbane in his system suppressing his wolf, Asheron couldn't deny the truth.
He could feel it in every fiber of his being. The human was his mate. Not only his but she was also his brothers' mate. Not some chosen mate that required the societal construct of marriage to be together. This was different, She was their soul mate. The mate that existed only in myths for his kind.
The wolfsbane made him unstable but he pushed through to walk inside the room. He dragged his legs like a desperate man in need of water. His oasis was just a few meters away from him. His world. His mate. His everything.
When he reached her side, it was as though fireworks exploded in his mind. A thrill like no other coursed through his veins. His clawed fingers touched her soft face. But before he could do more, he was forcefully dragged out of the room away from his mate.
