By how serious they are about others finding out their identity, it was clear that the only reason they didn't get rid of her was because she was bound to them through a mate bond.
It was just a guess, but she felt like something bad could happen to them if she ever fell into danger making them think twice before hurting her. That calmed her down, with them being protective, it was as if she suddenly got free bodyguards. But then again, Elia never asked for anything like this.
