Chapter 20 - ~020 Registering For The Exam

Panic set in… "Now what should I do?" He asked himself in worry.

Davi crawled all the way towards where Russell's voice was last heard until he made contact with his body.

Davi felt his pulse and his breath which were pretty normal to him… At least now there would be no reason for him to scream in the middle of the night for help.

Left with nothing to do, Davi cultivated…

Although this time, he was extremely slow as his mind was divided 40:60.

40 to cultivation, 60 to observing the slightest change to the environment.

Soon time flew by and dawn was almost at hand.

~Panting

"Are you ok? What happened why are you panting in such manner?" Davi asked in worry.

Russell on the other hand had a huge smile on his face.

"Brother you won't believe what I'm about to say!" Russell said.

"What is that? Speak! Ayo, why would you want to keep this blind brother of yours waiting eeh?" Davi said.

"Hahaha… I won't fall for that again.

Brother I understand what my elite ability is!

After that huge burst out, I fell into some indescribable dream.

I saw countless individuals being murdered. Indeed the frailty of humans was astonishing.

When I was in that state, I sort of understood the therapeutic importance of water and before I knew what was happening, a pale green liquid that had a strange glow to it began to flow outwards towards the battlefield.

Healing them (those injured) in an instant… Truly a spectacular sight.

What's even more shocking, is that that pale green liquid is water!" Russell said in excitement.

"What was it meant to be before? Wind?" Davi asked sarcastically.

"No! You do not get… I mean should I summon a water ball, what comes out isn't the basic water ball you know but this liquid of healing.

Wait let me show you" Russell said.

Quickly sitting into a lotus position, he began to gather nen energy before slowly compressing it to take the shape of a water ball.

Although Russell was extremely slow in the process, Davi didn't complain and only patiently observed.

Soon a pale greenish-white liquid floated above Russell's palm as he brought it closer for Davi to feel.

However the moment he inched closer to Davi, he saw the dried bloodstains on Davi's nose.

"You are injured?" Russell asked?

"Don't think too much about it it's no biggie" Davi replied.

"What happened?" Russell asked unwilling to take no for an answer.

Now that he had an awakened elite ability, he was confident that at least now, he can protect Davi.

"It was you… The moment you stopped with the nen control thing? A huge wave shot out from your body, injuring me in the process.

But it's a light injury don't bother about it, more importantly continue with your demonstration… Let me feel this water ball you speak of" Davi said.

With a mischievous smile slowly forming on Russell's lips he said.

"Don't worry… You will feel it… Hehe!"

Russell then sent out the water ball towards Davi's nose covering his mouth in the process.

It didn't feel like he was drowning but rather, it felt cold, yet oddly refreshing.

After about five minutes, the wound was fully healed.

Russell on the other hand, looked like someone who had just returned from a death camp.

He was panting so hard.

"That is indeed an amazing skill… However looking at the results, it definitely isn't satisfactory.

In as much as it indeed is an elite ability, one which its full capabilities hasn't been explored yet we will need to see how you can improve in the next few days" Davi said.

Nodding his head in agreement, Russell asked.

"But how?"

~Sigh

"First, since you are so tired just from using this ability for about five minutes, then I must say it is incredibly inefficient.

And absolutely not suited for combat.

You would not want to be healing your enemies in the middle of a fight… Or would you?" Davi asked.

"No, absolutely not!" Russell replied.

"My point exactly… you will need to find a way to use the normal water ball to fight at least its attack power is way superior to your healing thing.

Secondly, you need to train in the duration you can keep that healing water of yours active before you give out.

It's a pity we have about two days left to the exam if it was when we had almost two weeks, I am confident that by the time of exam you probably would have found an attack style unique only to you." Davi said.

"Hmm… I believe you brother and would do as you say… Dawn is already at hand.

Let's get ready for registration since it's already dawn.

Let me see if I can get us some breakfast from the inn's kitchen!" Russell said.

"Ok I will be waiting"

As soon as Davi was about to engage with his thoughts, he heard the system's voice.

Davi's face fell as he read what's on the screen.

"Must this crazy system give me an assignment every day?" Davi thought to himself.

Cursing his bad luck.

~Sigh.

"At least my luck is that I have until the day ends to complete each assignment… my legs gonna hurt after this" Davi thought inwardly.

Russell soon returned, thereafter they had their breakfast and set off for their registration.

The morning sun was rising just across the horizon when the twin duo walked into merchant's guild.

The merchant guild looked basic on the inside, totally betraying the ancient look it had from the outside.

A restaurant for merchants was sectioned at one end in the vast hall, different counters dedicated for different needs that merchants might find necessary.

Be it registration or to assign a mission or order beer, each counter had its own dedicated task.

However, today was different all counters had only one function: To register candidates for the exam.

"Is this where the registration would take place? I thought it would be at the holy church?" Davi asked.

"Due to the influx of candidates, they decided to split it up into three venues so they can register the large crowd.

The holy church, the merchant's guild and the adventurer's guild. Since the merchant's guild is the closest to our inn I decided we would come here to register" Russell responded.

"Makes sense… What's the problem?" Davi asked after noticing an unusual pause from Russell.

~Sigh

"After all my preparations, we still were still very late… with this crowd we would be lucky if we can register before the day runs out" Russell said.

A bad feeling began to well up inside Davi's chest.

"Did he just say we will be 'lucky'? That system is out to kill me and you expect me to miss a task all for the sake of registration?

I definitely don't want to die tonight.

Heck! What sort of troubles have I gotten myself into?" Davi asked himself inwardly.

Ignoring the gazes of the crowd that stared at the twin duo, or rather Davi, they joined a particular line that seemed to have less crowd and moved faster compared to the rest as they awaited their turn to be registered.

***

After about five hours of waiting, Davi groaned.

"Isn't it our turn yet? I am tired and hungry… I think I could die right now… The worms in my guts are going insane!" Davi said.

Of course this was totally understandable… Body refinement needed a lot of energy to succeed.

Where else would he obtain the energy if not from the nutrients he got from the food he ate?

"Patience brother… We are lucky after the next four persons would be our turn!" Russell replied.

After about another 42 minutes of waiting it was finally their turn.

A young lady with the ears of an elf looked at them and asked although she knew the answer.

"Are you here for the registration?" She asked.

However Russell was absent minded as if captivated by her beauty… The ears on her particularly made her stand out.

"Could she be an elf?" He thought inwardly

Davi bailed him out by responding… Making the elf take note of him as a pleasant surprise flashed through her eyes.

It wasn't every day that you get to see the blind taking an exam or was it?

"Yes! We are… How do we proceed?" Davi answered

Nodding her head she spoke.

"You would fill out your details in the form below… registration costs 25 bronze rubbies per person!" the elf said as she handed two sheets to Russell who could see.

The form asked basic questions like:

Your Name

Age

If you have awakened

If yes, state the time or year you awakened.

Current class.

Signature

After filling in both forms for himself and Davi, Russell handed both back to the elf along with 50 bronze rubbies.

Looking at the form a smile formed across her lips

" The 'L'… It's not everyone that has the middle name being 'L'… If I am correct isn't Vermillion the former leader of that association?

I really am curious about your origins… 16 yrs of age… Interesting sadly I am only curious I would not go more than that… Who knows what sort of monsters walk amongst us?" The elf thought.

"Davi L. Vermillion and Russell L. Vermillion… You both have awakened yet your class is empty why?" The elf asked.

"Oh… We awakened a week ago before the exam, don't even know what classes exist not to talk of placing ourselves in one" Russell responded.

"Really? That is a special case indeed.

So a naturally awakened eeh?" She asked.

Receiving a nod of affirmation she continued.

"However since it cannot be left blank and you truly have awakened, then I will fill in magic apprentice the same class that all newly awakened bears…

Naturally if your class is lower or higher than this you would know during the exam" The elf responded.

Nodding their heads, both Davi and Russell agreed to this.

Soon they were handed a token with their names engraved on it.

"Thank you!" Russell said

"You're welcome" the elf replied.

Soon both Davi and Russell were out of the merchant's guild.

"Now what?" Russell asked.

"Of course training continues what were you thinking?" Davi answered nonchalantly.

"Can you stop being dramatic?" Russell replied.

"I am not!" Davi replied.

Their bickering continued as the twin duo made their way back to their inn.
