Chapter 27 - Chapter 6: Part 5

Ainz Pov

It was strange I admit. Coming over to a new world, crossing over in the body of an avatar I so dearly loved. It was quite worrisome as I wondered if I would have been able to go to work the next day and then make it back home through the smog filled air. It was weird to see these people we, our guild, created coming to life, gaining sentience from their former constrictions and gaining status as 'life'. It was quite weird to see, yet I was somehow able to accept it.

Then, there was the invasion I was witnessing through the remote viewing mirror. A magical item that allowed me to view places at a long distances and control the picture's zoom, and area of coverage.

Of course, I hesitated to interact with it, considering our state at the moment. Yet all I could think of was Touch me and his heroic deeds. Of course, I headed down there after that. However, there was some unknown variables that struck me as odd when I entered through the gate. Three individuals, two young men and an elder, which felt strange to me. I hadn't seen a lot of older people like him, the world I came from seemingly to harsh for them.

Yet, their mana was immense, easily on the level of a player of the higher levels, most likely 50-60 if I were to take a guess. One of them had a more sinister version of mana, made of fear and death. It was more akin to negative karma that was liquidized and utilized as a means of attacking.

What made it even weirder was that they were from my old world. Well, not exactly my old world considering their state of dress which was archaic in fashion. The old man was extremely out of date, like 350 years out of date. It was like watching a museum play of old history.

However, the current situation was what surprised me more. I was listening to the captain, Gazeff Stronof, explain what is going on. "The armor indicates the Baharuth empire, but they usually don't attack out here this far" he muttered. He was a high ran king knight, from the information he told me, and he was dispatched out here due to some raids that were taking place around other villages in the nearby area.

"Do you think its a ploy by a foreign advisory?" I hinted at, the situation somewhat similar to a strategy game I played once before. Of course, it was an outdated game from the early 2000s which was imported to the virtual reality.

"A ploy, by who?" said Gazeff with a look that was more confused than accusatory. It was just an idea, not something concrete. It popped into my head due to similarities in a game and the fact the patterns didn't match up to their well known actions. I almost wished I had a spell to speak with the dead.

"Heya Ainz!" Gojo shouted cheerfully as he headed towards my position. I could feel Albedo scowl right next to me. I wanted to die in a hole from the event earlier, it was somewhat embarassing. Why did I have to be reborn as the leader of Nazarick!? Okay, internal screaming match aside, I was curious about him.

"Hey Gojo-san" I said politely, defaulting to honorifics considering I didn't know him real well. It was often safest to default to it. "Hey, enough with the honorifics Im not old!" declared Gojo with an exasperated sigh. It felt odd to hear that from a fellow countrymen. Then again, he might be from a parallel Japan so things might be different over there.

"Sorry Gojo" I said without the honorifics. It was something I would have a hard time doing. Being in the workforce just engraved it into me with the constant keeping up my guard against the bosses I worked for.

"Hey call me Satoru" he clapped on my back, the touch of his hand being felt on my shoulder blade. I was surprised, I thought it was a passive type ability without it being able to turn off. "You can turn this off?" I was seemingly being surprised everytime I went to do something. Maybe that's just gonna be my life.

"Of course, it does cost energy you know" he grinned and I could perceive something flowing about him, the accursed mana most likely. "What is the substance which surrounds you?" I asked. "Substance? You mean my cursed energy?" he looked at me and asked, his eyes widened.

"Cursed energy? Is that another term for mana?" I pondered as he looked at me with a face that seemingly was stuck in a certain position until he smacked it out of himself. "No its not mana. Cursed energy is a fuel for cursed techniques. It is formed from negative emotions which manifest in areas like schools and hospitals" he explained as I saw the energy flow to his hand and as it swelled up, a blue-ish flame appeared.

"Huh. Is it possible to acquire this type of energy?" I enquired. It would do good to find avenues to boost my strength. "Maybe? I know its possible for people who are not born with it to aquire it, but I don't know if its possible for a lich" said Goj-Satoru as he rubbed his chin in contemplation.

I was about to inquire more until I heard the hurried steps of a knight in metal armor. "Captain!" he shouted and formed a weird salute. Gazeff returned the salute in kind. "What news do you bring Schlain" he asked the knight, Schlain, as he explained some grave news to his captain. "Sir, there are people surrounding the villages, and they appear to wield angels!" Schlain shouted. "Angels! That must be the Slane Theocracy!" shouted Gazef as he rallied his troops to the center square of the village.

It seemed his voice also attracted the other reincarnators, I think their names was Albus and Thomas. "I'm sorry to ask you guys of this, but would you be willing to help us out one more time?" he asked. My human side wanted to help him, yet I had to think of Nazarick. I shook my head no, while the others seemed unsure.

"I guess it was worth a shot asking. If not anything else, will you protect the village?" he asked in hope we would accept. "Of course" said the widened old man Albus. He seemed the honest sort, atleast, he would be one who tried to be honest but wasn't very good at it. I bet he would be a good teacher or warrior.

Gazef nodded his head and kicked his horse into speed as they left. But I had a sudden thought as I called out for him to stop for but a moment. He looked confused, wondering why I was stopping him until I handed him a carved ornamental statue. "A gift, it should come in handy" I said to him as he nodded and tucked it away in his armor. He rode off into the distance, seemingly ready to confront the angels.

"Why did you give him the artifact?" asked Thomas. His eyes seemed particularly quizitive. "I wanted to give him something useful" I said as I crossed my arms. "I understand that, but its a teleportation artifact that activates if the user is in danger, swapping with another statue holder" he said.

If I could grin, I would. "Of course" I said not really elaborating as I saw the formation of a smile on his face. "your not good at being evil" he said as I laughed. I wonder if maybe I was pushing the persona a bit far. "You know, when this is over you should follow us to my tavern for a drink" he called out to me as I nodded, wanting to relish in the drink to come.

[A/N: Sorry guys for the writing quality. I have a feeling it dropped so I apologize in advance. Writing characters other than the protagonist is hard, or at least hard to get right. I have read the first two novels of Overlord and watched up to season 3, but I have a feeling nailing down his character is gonna be tough. Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoy and I thank the person who donated powerstones, Kaiser_Kaier. Enjoy!]
