By the time the dumplings came out of the pot, it was already past seven in the evening.
Billows of white steam rolled out from the kitchen, wrapped in the fragrance of dough and meat filling, making the whole living room feel warm and toasty.
Mao Sanmei came out carrying a heaping big plate of dumplings, followed by Taozi with the dipping sauces, and behind her was Dou Dou, clutching her chopsticks, unable to wait.
"Make way, make way, they're hot, hot, hot..."
Taozi shouted as she walked.
Dou Dou trailed behind her like a little tail, tiptoeing, holding her chopsticks high, muttering nonstop, "Where's my big dumpling? The one I marked, the biggest one..."
"It's still in the pot. Your dumpling is too big, it has to cook longer, otherwise the inside will still be raw." Mao Sanmei gestured in sign language, and Taozi translated for her.
