Chapter 332 - Chapter 333 - The First Civil War (I)

"Humanity is naturally lazy; you always have to show them they are in danger or they become weak and without determination." Thoughts of the God Emperor of Humanity about Humanity.

-----------

Looking at the map filled with red dots, Alysanne's mood was really somewhat chaotic. This was the Galaxy Map and where the Imperium of Humanity was located. Each red dot was a planet that had been captured by heretics in a coup d'état.

Honestly, a third of humanity's worlds had changed hands in less than a year, showing that these heretics had really accumulated a lot of power in these thousand years of existence. The death of the four senators was their revolt.

"It seems the number of Astartes must increase so that something like this doesn't happen again." Alysanne murmured with a grim look. Her father might be calm in the face of this, but she could not remain calm.

These people worshipped a corrupted god, were indoctrinated from birth, from the moment they breathed air for the first time, they were taught to worship a being that was no longer the same.

The most ironic thing was that the leaders of this organization didn't even believe in this god; they just used him to indoctrinate the masses.

Alysanne turned her head and looked at her father, who was being served by Naerys. He seemed relaxed and calm, as if his Imperium wasn't going through a frightening civil war.

"Father, if you already knew this, why didn't you do something?" This was what intrigued her most. Her father knew the future or, to be more precise, saw the future in billions of different timelines. She didn't believe her father didn't know about these rats.

Aenar looked at Alysanne and calmly drank his wine. He didn't respond immediately, looked at the purple liquid in his glass and finally spoke. "Of course I knew, but this is good for humanity as a whole."

"It may seem strange to you, but this kind of thing will happen a lot in our long immortal life." Aenar said with a smile. He enjoyed seeing the confusion in Alysanne's gaze. The girl might be a thousand years old, but compared to the number of lives he had lived in other timelines, she was a baby.

"Do you know why the Aeldari became what they are today?" Aenar didn't answer the girl's doubts and asked with a smile. He looked at his glass and took a sip, feeling satisfied with the taste in his mouth.

"Too much free time and boredom?" Alysanne answered with a touch of uncertainty.

Aenar nodded his head, not surprised by Alysanne's answer. "Partially correct," he said with a smile.

"Boredom helped them decay quite a bit, but the real reason was that they had no enemies to maintain basic cohesion. When there's no fear of external enemies, internal problems begin to appear. That's what happened to the Aeldari." Aenar looked at the window, where tens of thousands of imperial warships could be seen.

"To maintain humanity's sense of survival and caution, this kind of crisis must happen or we'll follow in the Aeldari's footsteps. Without an enemy to serve as a sword over humanity's head, we'll become increasingly hedonistic, corrupt, and finally start killing each other." Aenar explained with a smile. As a human, he knew humanity better than anyone.

Although humanity was ambitious, there was a fundamental flaw in it: laziness. Humans become lazy when they feel the environment is stable and comfortable. It's not exactly a bad thing, because people have to live their lives. But when you have great longevity, this becomes a big problem.

"Remember Alysanne, humans are flawed beings; never underestimate our flaws." Seeing her shocked expression, Aenar laughed with satisfaction. "That's why we have to have enemies or we'll get lazy, fat, and finally die in our own fat."

Alysanne nodded her head, understanding once more that she had much to learn. Instead of looking at the present, she had to look at the future; only long-term plans could make a better Imperium.

"Father, before leaving, I want you to read this." Placing a paper on her father's table, Alysanne said with a calm and serious tone. She had spent the entire night writing a solid law proposal. After having this conversation, she felt that the law she created was perfect to help her father.

Aenar looked curiously at the paper. It was the first time his daughter had really gotten involved with politics, creating a law personally.

"Imperial Nobility Meritocracy Law." Taking the paper, Aenar began to read with a casual look, but soon showed an expression full of interest in his daughter's law proposal. "If I approve this, your power in court will basically cease to exist; they'll abandon you without thinking twice."

The Imperial Nobility Meritocracy Law, proposed by Alysanne, was simple. If you have merits, you are rewarded with a nobility title. This was already happening in the Imperium, but Alysanne's proposal begins to diverge at this point.

Although you have the title and it can pass to the heir, the noble title will be downgraded each generation, until finally, he or she becomes a commoner again. Of course, if the heir continues to earn merit, whether military or political, he can maintain the title and even elevate it.

In other words, if you are a Count, your son will be a Viscount, your grandson will be a Baron, your great-grandson a Knight, until becoming a commoner.

If Aenar approved such a law, he could see that nobles from all over the Imperium would hate Alysanne to the extreme, since even dukes were not exempt from this law. What Alysanne had proposed was practically a sword of Damocles above these nobles' heads, encouraging them to earn merit or have their titles downgraded.

The law was quite adequate in Aenar's eyes, making these nobles finally work and not spend so much time in their own fiefs.

"Of course, this will also make all the nobles side with your brother." Aenar said with a laugh. He could see that everyone would rally to Aegon's side, ready to place him as heir as soon as possible.

"Let them hate me. If I cared what they think, I would have killed them long ago." Alysanne said with a casual tone and a smile full of disdain for the nobles. She knew very well what would happen if such a law proposal were approved. All the nobles would hate her, which wasn't really a surprise, given that she didn't like these nobles either.

"As for Aegon... if he wants the rest of my food, let him eat until he's full." Alysanne commented with a sarcastic smile, remembering her brother, who no longer had an arm.

"I will approve your law in the Imperial Senate. Prepare to be visited day and night when these nobles discover your law project." Aenar commented with a smile while stamping Alysanne's paper with the seal of House Targaryen.

"Thank you, father." Alysanne kissed Aenar's face and said cheerfully, making the Emperor himself smile gently.

"Now go clean our beloved Imperium of these rats." Aenar gave a dismissal order. Alysanne made a salute pose and left with a smile.

Seeing Alysanne's back disappear, Aenar looked at Naerys and said with a calm tone. "Recently I sensed remnants of psychic energy from the Warp near Alysanne's future battlefield. I want you to go to the battlefield and wait until the war happens to kill the Apostle of Plague."

"Yes, Imperial Father." Naerys accepted the orders with a respectful look while refilling Aenar's glass with wine. It would be a lie to say she wasn't excited. She was happy about going to the battlefield; it would be her first time fighting against the forces of chaos.

As for danger, there was none, at least while her father was watching the past, present, and future, there was absolutely nothing dangerous. After all, to represent a threat to her, it would have to be someone at her father's level or the Four Chaos Gods, who were still in gestation.

Aenar laughed at his daughter's expression and felt satisfied. In his eyes, Naerys should see the world instead of staying with him all the time. The girl had an immortal life but only cared about remaining by his side; this was a pure waste of immortal life in his eyes.
