Chapter 265 - Chapter 265 - Dealing with Loose Ends.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV

Skellige.

...

...

Madara returned to the room later with a letter in his hand. The banquet hadn't brought much business after King Thorne of Sodden's invitation, while Madara had stayed behind talking with King Bran and Mousesack about matters of the wedding or even speaking of Skellige itself.

When he entered the room, he found Ciri lying on the bed, clinging with her arms around the colt. She could see that the bathtub was a little messy, with water on the stone floor, and since the colt's coat had been brushed, it indicated that she had bathed him. Madara went to her side and touched her face, before she opened her eyes and turned to him with a sleepy look.

"Madara, you finally arrived." She said in a sleepy and rather cute tone.

"I slept." She said, opening a smile.

"I don't think we'll be able to have sex tonight." She said with quite some maturity, being something they were already used to doing every day.

"That's fine, we'll leave it for after our wedding." He said, while looking at the colt asleep. He hadn't even moved in Madara's presence, still there in Ciri's arms, who held him like a teddy bear. He still remembered that he had won that bear for her at a booth during the horse races, in northern Novigrad, and she used to sleep with it. It seemed she had found another one now.

"I'll have to go out." Madara said a moment later.

Ciri immediately seemed to awaken now.

"Go out? Where are you going?" She asked with a cautious and even more worried tone. He only raised the letter he carried.

"I discovered important information while I was in the hall. A representative from Redania came to me, passing on information from Sigismund Dijkstra, giving the location of Cahir and other Nilfgaardians who are looking for us. They are here in Skellige, as we already suspected. They are coming to the island at this moment and intend to come to the castle." Madara said with a serious tone.

"That's… well, all right. Just come back soon." Was all Ciri said, already knowing what Madara was going to do. There was no more conversation with him.

Madara nodded and kissed her forehead, before she grabbed his face and brought it to her lips.

"Come back soon, all right?" She repeated.

Madara got up before leaving the room and jumping out the window itself, after changing clothes, putting a dark cloak over him.

In fact, many ships were coming to Ard Skellige that dawn due to the royal wedding that would take place that day under the sun.

And on one of them was Cahir, who had already heard about Madara and Ciri while all the confusion had happened in Ard Skellige a day earlier.

In any case, Madara began jumping from ship to ship he found sailing in the sea, searching for the Nilfgaardians, while the ships headed toward the main island. He could easily enter without being detected, finding the sailors asleep in their bunks, while those who were awake didn't even have the ability to see a shinobi in action.

Since the islands were close, there weren't many ships sailing at night. They usually left that for the day, to move from one island to another, but because of the wedding, people wanted to arrive, not even the city below the castle seemed calm.

And so, when he reached a third ship and passed by the men who were all awake on deck, since in the next hours they would arrive at their destination, he saw something interesting among the men sleeping as soon as he entered the ship.

There was a handkerchief with the symbol of Nilfgaard in the hand of a sleeping man. Indicating that he had found those he was looking for.

He quickly checked all the men there. He knew he could simply blow up the whole ship now, but that would be too quick. He wanted information. He went searching through bunks and notes until he finally found who he was looking for: Cahir.

The man looked rather unpleasant, he had a tired face and showed it when he woke up startled, after receiving a slap in the face that made him awaken immediately in fright. But, before he could say anything, he had already fallen into Madara's genjutsu.

At the next moment, he could do nothing but feel his mind being invaded, while Madara took all the information he needed.

Obviously, due to the level of threat Madara represented, the chance of capturing Ciri had been greatly reduced. Even though he had the order to capture Ciri, Cahir's main role now was to watch them and infiltrate the wedding. Except he didn't seem to expect that Madara would remember him along with his pursuit years ago.

He had been greatly demoted since he started failing and, over the years, had given almost no useful information to the emperor. This seemed to enrage Emhyr. As much as no one else had managed to gather information about Madara throughout the continent, in each vague message that Cahir sent, the mages made it clear, when they teleported to the investigation group with a message from the emperor, that Emperor Emhyr was displeased with them.

In any case, Madara asked for the information he wanted, before finally releasing the genjutsu. There was no reason to continue. He had gathered some interesting information about news from Nilfgaard, since he had almost nothing from the South, and about where Cahir had been investigating.

When the events occurred in Kaedwen, a group of Nilfgaardians had been secretly sent. Cahir had also been asked to go there at first, but soon his superiors told him to stay in place since Skellige was a strategic point due to the connection with Cintra, and Emhyr had always wanted to have his intelligence spread throughout the North. They believed it would be better for him to remain there and let another team investigate Kaedwen.

In any case, there was nothing more for Madara there. He left the ship shortly after with Cahir falling back asleep, moving away from him. As he ran across the sea water, everything seemed calm, but all the paper bombs he had left throughout the ship began to ignite at that instant.

He was already too far away, but he could still see the explosion, with a glow lighting up the dark night, while the echo of the blast came right after.

He returned to the castle soon after, finding Ciri who hadn't slept, waiting for him, even though she was still in bed hugging the colt Doni.

"Did you handle it?" She asked, while he nodded, taking off his clothes and going to bed.

"They won't be a problem anymore." Was all he said, while she nodded. It was already dawn, but they could still hear the hall bustling.

"They're still in the hall, aren't they?" She suddenly asked, turning to Madara.

"You can bet they are. Geralt and Zoltan are playing Gwent." Madara said.

"Usually we would be with him, but it's better that we rest. Tomorrow we have our wedding." Madara said, while Ciri opened a joyful, happy smile.

"Yes." Ciri said, moving closer to touch his lips in a gesture of happiness, as they both fell asleep the next moment.

Hours later, Yennefer was already at the door, knocking.

Madara opened, while the sorceress crossed her arms. "Come on, we have to have our first meal before the hall fills up. You don't want all those nobles talking in your ears, do you?" Yennefer said.

"Of course, just give us a few minutes." Madara said, while walking to the middle of the room, finding Ciri getting up as well. The colt finally got out of the bed, letting out a sound similar to that of a calf.

"He's hungry." She said. "What should we give him?"

"Take him to the hall. I'm sure there will be something for him to eat there." Madara said, while Ciri crouched down before the colt, caressing him.

"Let's go down to eat something, all right?" She said, while the colt neighed softly.

In any case, they changed their clothes and went down from the special guest wing, heading to the hall, while the colt walked beside Ciri, still somewhat cautious of the people staring at the small unicorn, since his horn stood out quite prominently in the middle of his head.

Ciri always calmed him, saying that no one would mess with him while she was by his side.

Yennefer was already waiting in one of the corridors. "So this is the unicorn." She said, looking with interest at the magical creature. "It's the first time I've seen one in all these years. He looks like a puppy at your side, Ciri." Yennefer said, smiling with admiration and amusement, while the animal itself let out a sound as if protesting against that comment — he was not a dog.

"His name is Eira, and I'm taking care of him until his mother comes to fetch him." Ciri said.

"I see. They say one should never meddle with unknown magical creatures, like dragons and others, especially the unicorn. However, you are always involved with them somehow… Just be careful, Ciri, his mother may not understand that." Yennefer said, in a serious tone, staring at the unicorn. "If your mother hurts Ciri, you'll pay for it, little one." The sorceress said, with a tone full of threat.

The creature's bellow came right after, seeming not to have liked the sorceress's words.

"Let's stop provoking and threatening. Ciri can protect herself even from unicorns, who are so calm. You don't need to worry, Yennefer, I made sure over the last years that she had that ability." Madara said this time, while the sorceress stared at him, agreeing with those words in the end.

"Now let's go." Yennefer said, as she turned around, and they followed her to the main hall once again.

The hall was practically empty, but Geralt, Zoltan, Dandelion, and others were occupying a table. There was no one at the main table, while the servants were still arranging it.

"Well, finally we'll spend some time with our friends." Ciri said, happy not to have to deal with nobles that morning.

"Ah, you're here!" Zoltan said, as they approached the table and joined it.

"How are you? Ready for the wedding? I remember attending many of them, I can even give you tips." Dandelion said, with his lute — I mean, the lute he had borrowed, since his own had broken a few days ago.

"No, thank you." Madara said to Dandelion. Certainly, this guy got himself involved in a lot of trouble, and he wasn't in the mood to hear his words.

"Well, I hope we don't have any mishaps." Geralt didn't fail to comment.

"Don't worry about that. We've handled everything and Ciri looked into the future." Madara said, while everyone looked when the colt went beside Ciri, raising his two hooves over the bench and staring at the table eagerly.

"Well, let me introduce him. This is Eira. He's going to stay with me for a while, we'll take care of him. As you can see, he's a unicorn." Ciri said, laughing, as she grabbed something to feed him. The colt bit eagerly at what she offered him.

"That's a unicorn?!" Dandelion seemed to choke when he saw it really was a unicorn with a horn on its head.

In the end, they spent the rest of the morning talking, while the hall began to fill. Madara saw Ciri being pulled by Yennefer, who said she would be busy the rest of the day getting ready, while the wedding was quickly being prepared by several castle servants.

A garden that also lay on the ground floor, facing the sea, would be the place used for the ceremony. It wouldn't fit everyone who was in the hall, so Ciri and Madara would have to choose who they wanted.

Madara had to be on his own for a while, until Ciri came to him with other noble women. From what he could notice, they laughed all the time, and Ciri gave him a smile before taking the colt and disappearing with him, saying that the next time they saw each other, she would be in a wedding dress.

Madara shrugged and had to wait, together with Geralt and the others, until lunchtime, before Yennefer came to him, taking him to also dress him properly for a wedding.
