Chapter 41 - "In Vain"

I woke up with pain coursing through my veins, but I wasn't fazed.

Looking around, I saw a full medical team and security Meeseeks protecting and analyzing my vitals.

Looking at my vitals, it revealed an astonishing 198 heart rate bht I'd felt nothing. Beeps were still rampant across the sterile room.

But all of it was irrelevant.

My sole focus was on myself. My mind.

It was beyond surreal. My thoughts felt limitless, as if I could dream up a concept and it would become reality. My memory was similar—a merciless machine that, if granted access to information, would swallow it in an instant.

I could see my heart rate changing before it even did.

What I already knew seemed so small. Like I'd only lived a year's worth of human life out of the two memories I possessed. A toddler's knowledge is what I had in my palm.

Contemplating the implications of my thoughts, I stood, commanding the Meeseeks back to their posts, and geared back up.

"Sir, approximate arrival for the ship is 1.24 minutes."

I nodded, walking calmly out and tilting my head to the sky...

Just seconds later, a blue light came into existence like a star, but it was morning.

My ship in its hyperdrive burrowed down closer to the planet. A giant flame stopped the ship's descent and it landed safely.

Walking towards the burnt surroundings, I was in front of my ship.

It was still shining and mint, but opening the yellow glass cover revealed its gas. A percent bar of 19 percent remained.

The fuel it used was semi-rare in the black market—the average galactic military fuel. There were better options, but I'd need something big in return to trade for it.

With my mind so clear, I was open to experimentation. So much so that I immediately headed to a cargo ship.

Approaching it, the system's AI hummed to life. It was already on thanks to the Meeseeks who were monitoring the interior.

Entering, I grabbed my bag and pulled out a chain of monkey paws—two still unused and one crumbling but usable for a small miracle.

I grabbed a full one. Although it would be a waste on a simple upgrade of a ship.

"Give me a manageable and comprehensive amount of the universe's best technology."

But what's the point of gold if you didn't use it?

A steady stream of information flowed into my cognition.

It was clear as day with my almost inhuman brain capacity. I couldn't help but crack a grin.

"With this."

My collar whirred, feeling my thoughts, but even now I felt it needed a major upgrade.

My knowledge far outranked what I knew before. Portal travel seemed to be lost on me, though. Even though I knew it had been perfected by at least a couple individuals, I didn't receive much info. But it definitely was possible to remake one with slight effort.

Heading out and turning back to the ship, I refueled it with the remaining gas I had. The ship was decent for scrap at this point. I called upon a Captain Meeseeks and gave him the key.

"Here. You'll be guarding the planet from here on. Make yourself a team and take down any threats."

The Meeseeks headed out with a salute, and as soon as he'd fully gone, I received a call. It could only be Beta Seven.

"Do you have any info?" I immediately spoke.

Beta Seven's image fully popped up now.

"Yes. It seems there is another hive in the nearby galaxy Turan R-0."

"Give me the exact coordinates."

A link popped up, and clicking on it revealed a direct map to the planet.

The call ended and everything turned out smooth. I was at ease.

I was sure my mind had transformed so much that it was no longer human. I felt as if I was only missing knowledge.

A deep understanding of one's self was still a shock to myself

Hate.

My mind now regards things with hate. Some with no chance at redemption, no room for a clean slate.

The one thing I loved in my previous life was helping others, mainly people I'd spend time with personally, to make them as good as me.

And it changed when dying for someone else. It still filled me, and no matter my capacity for learning, or forgiving I could not stop. There was no love left to save, as if it was a primal urge, a stain of this soul and may be the reason why I reincarnated

A death I wouldn't let be in vain.

With that thought, my expression deepened—still flat but concentrated.

Anyone who was in my way would go down in waves.
