Chapter 229 - Next Step

Luna set a pawn in front of his king, which Chase directly copied by setting the opposite pawn in front of her king.

"This is stupid..."

Chase muttered, leaning his chin on his palm.

Luna frowned.

"I suppose... Can't really win if you are just stalling the entire game..."

Chase scowled.

"Because you can read my mind... Which isn't really fair in the first place..."

She shrugged.

"I suppose not."

Then the board vanished into thousands of blue particles, as Luna sat up and crossed her legs.

"Do as I do."

Chase tilted his head, but did as she told him.

Sitting with his legs crossed and arms at his side, he asked:

"Why?"

Her frown deepened.

"You carry fourteen affinities, that require you to break your active seals to access most of them. Two of them you can access now, but are not fit to be your primary offense."

He thought about it.

'She is right... I can't keep using Phoenix Flames for attack, it will eventually kill me if I did that. The flames hurt when I use them too much, and I definitely cannot rely on my Axis to win fights.'

She nodded slowly.

"Relax and close your eyes..."

He did as she told him, awaiting for her next instruction.

"Ya know? The more I look inside your head, the more I question if you even carry human traits at all. You are kinda weird, no offense."

Chase's eye twitched, and he partially wished that he had just burned the necklace.

"None taken..."

He lied.

"Stop lying, it isn't gonna get you anywhere..."

She said honestly.

"What do you want me to say? I take full offense?"

She chuckled.

"I'm just kidding..."

He tried to concentrate. On what he was trying to concentrate on? He didn't really know but it was better than just sitting there aimlessly.

"Anyway... As I was saying: You are quite quiet, even your thoughts are rare and cloudy, its like nobody is home half the time..."

He opened his eyes and scowled.

"What am I supposed to think to myself then? How I keep failing and losing people close to me? How it is my fault that two entire wars started?"

She smacked him in the face.

Ringing filled his ears as he rubbed his cheek.

"Stop that."

She demanded.

He didn't know why he was smacked in the face for that, but he didn't really have the right to complain, perhaps he needed to learn to look on the bright side more?

"You are not the cause of the Frostfang war nor are you the cause of the war against Rider, these were going to happen anyway... Had you not freed Sazir from his enslavement, he would have been under the god of time's control for the rest of his life... Now shut up and don't argue with me."

She yelled quite loud for a goddess.

"Anyways..."

She was tapping the corner of the bed as she pondered, Chase could not read her thoughts as she could him, and only could hear her if she chose to speak in his mind, yet she could actively see into his thoughts, memories, and even emotions.

"Your mother is Lilith, the goddess of hell. Your father was Blaze Alexander, of the House of Phoenix. You carry the seals of Tartarus as well as the dying embers of the Phoenix, you are the most vital part of humanity at the moment. So you need to get as strong as possible. Rider currently has multiple prisoners in the dungeons of his kingdom, as well as countless citizens living in his kingdom, yet you are required to destroy his castle's power source to weaken him."

Chase listened as he rubbed his numb cheek.

"So I need to free the prisoners and get the civilians out?"

She pondered for a moment then nodded.

"Correct, but you would have to do so without alerting the guards or king Rider himself..."

Chase scratched the back of his neck, feeling a headache start to form.

"How?"

She was silent for quite a while.

"Hm, I guess you leave that to the Gideon boy and some of your other allies, which will leave only a handful of you to take on Rider and his two powerful generals..."

"I want Rider..."

He immediately declared with no hesitation.

She raised an eyebrow then continued with a deep sigh.

"How exactly do you plan on beating him as well as destroying his catalyst?"

Chase groaned.

"I don't know."

"I said keep your eyes closed."

She flicked him in the forehead, so he quickly shut his eyes again.

"Do you remember that town you visited before the battle of Frostfang?"

He nodded.

"Good, that is your first destination, you will head there and recruit two soldiers to your cause, one you already know quite well and the other goes by the name of Jacob of House Aeger."

Chase tilted his head.

"Okay?"

She put a finger on his forehead, making him twice as confused as he already was.

"Imagine veins of energy flowing through your body... Tell me what color they are..."

He strained his eyes, trying his best to envision some sort of circular system of energy flowing through his body.

Zephyr had once tried to get him to do something similar to this, he had called it mana meditation.

Chase couldn't really "See" anything which made it hard to get a clear picture of the color of the energy, but he had already known that it was there.

Then something flickered behind his eyes, as heat started to form on his body.

It was a strange amount of heat and nothing like his phoenix flames, it was almost cold and empty as it flowed through his body.

However, unlike the phoenix flames... It was not painful, and quite welcoming in a strange way.

"Green."

He answered quietly as he watched his own energy slowly build up into intricate veins that swirled up and down each of his limbs and directly came from the catalyst sitting behind his solar plexus.

"Good..."

She said with a strange excitement in her voice.

"You are very behind on this, as many of your allies and peers have learned this at young ages. It is the most efficient way of rebuilding energy after battles, and acts as a way to purify and strengthen energy. Now try to make the veins more compact, and smaller."

"I'll try..."

He tried to imagine squeezing the veins, but that only brought him agonizing pain as he groaned and clutched his stomach.

"Not like that, try... Hm, try building more energy up into them, let more of it flow from your catalyst and into a singular vein."

He nodded.

As he let energy flow into the veins in his left arm, excruciating stress started to build up as his left arm began to get heavier.

Then he let it flow to his hands, where the stress started to release, he did the same on his right arm as well.

"Now make a sign with your hands."

He tilted his head.

"I don't understand."

She lifted her finger off his forehead and it sounded like she was trying to back up.

"Make something up."

He separated his middle and ring finger, connecting his pointer with the middle and his ring finger with his pinky.

Then heat started to build up in the spaces between his fingers.

He lifted his right eye just barely only to see Luna on the far edge of the room with an amazed sparkle in her eyes.

He looked down at his hands...

But it was his entire body that was shrouded in green flames, as his hands had started to emit the flames into the air.

He moved his arms up and the green flames followed.

It was the same flames that Sparky had used once upon a time.

"Holy shit!"

Equan yelled as the door slammed open.
