Chapter 394: Refining the Evil Eye
As the massive black mist eye was absorbed into the black orb in Lin Langtian's palm, the climactic battle finally came to an end.
"Phew."
Lin Langtian let out a breath, but his eyes quickly narrowed as he noticed Xuantian and his group sneaking off with the Luo Water Pearl, heading towards a nearby spatial vortex.
"Hmph."
At that moment, the woman in the blue gown turned, her delicate face showing a flash of coldness. She raised her hand and clenched it tightly.
Buzz!
With her grasp, the distant Luo Water Pearl trembled violently, releasing a terrifying energy that shattered the net-like spiritual artifact Xuantian's group had wrapped around it.
"Retreat!"
Realizing they were outmatched, Xuantian gave a sharp command, and without a second thought, he darted towards the spatial vortex. Behind him, the three others followed, all looking furious but not daring to stay.
With a simple wave of her sleeve, the woman sent a surge of water crashing toward the other stragglers, forcibly sweeping them all into the spatial vortex.
Lin Langtian raised an eyebrow at the sight of everyone being unceremoniously expelled, but just as he was about to retreat himself, the woman turned her gaze to him and Ling Qingzhu.
Just as Lin Langtian prepared to step back, she spoke: "Young friend, I owe you thanks."
Surprised, Lin Langtian looked down at the black orb in his hand and replied with a modest smile, "I was just lucky; it was nothing."
"Don't be so modest," she said, eyeing the dark orb in his hand. "You played a critical role in suppressing that Evil Eye. But I wonder if you know exactly what it is you're holding."
Lin Langtian hesitated but decided to answer honestly. "It's the Evil God's Eye. I found it by chance in the treasure zone of the Demon Realm."
"The Evil God's Eye? You already know its name?" She seemed surprised, her gaze sharpening. "It seems you have secrets of your own, young man."
Without warning, she appeared directly before him, her cool eyes fixed on him as she reached out and grabbed his wrist.
Startled, Lin Langtian froze, but then, considering the overwhelming power gap between them, he forced himself to remain calm.
She inspected him closely, her eyes flickering with thought before she finally released his arm, her expression shifting to one of mild suspicion. "Apart from the elemental energy this continent uses, you also have traces of dark energy in you. Are you part of the Evil Spirit Clan?"
At her words, she conjured a water shield around them, making them vanish from view.
The Evil Spirit Clan, she explained, was a hybrid race created by the Outer Demons and certain beings of the Grand World. Although these creatures could harness both dark energy and spiritual power, their blood was looked down upon, and the clans bore an undesirable reputation.
Hearing this, Lin Langtian was momentarily puzzled, then quickly shook his head. "You're mistaken. I know nothing about the Evil Spirit Clan, and as for the dark energy, I cultivated it purely by chance."
The woman's brows furrowed as she studied him; it was rare, even in the Grand World, for a human to wield such an otherworldly power. She was about to question him further when Ling Yi, his spirit guide, emerged.
"Young lady of the Luo Clan, don't trouble Langtian. He speaks the truth, and he's entirely unaffiliated with any Evil Spirit Clan."
Seeing Ling Yi, the woman raised an eyebrow in surprise, her eyes quickly taking in the fiery red feathers and avian eyes that marked the Nine Nether Flame Bird. "A Nine Nether Flame Bird from the Grand World? And you've linked your bloodline to this boy?"
Ling Yi, noticing her astonishment, nodded. "Due to unusual circumstances, I established a bloodline bond with Langtian, and I can assure you he isn't connected to any Outer Demons."
Hearing this, she nodded slightly, her expression softening a little. She glanced at the dark orb in Lin Langtian's hand, her face serious.
"Although I don't know how you managed to subdue the true form of this Evil Eye, it's likely tied to one of the Outer Demons' strongest. Years ago, I encountered this eye in the Grand World. After a grueling three-day battle, I managed to expel its main body, sealing it here on this continent by sacrificing myself.
"In truth, I no longer exist in the usual sense. My essence is bound to this Luo Water Pearl. Now that the Evil Eye is once again subdued, I'll soon lose what little consciousness I have left. Before that happens, I need to know what you intend to do with it—will you destroy it or…"
She trailed off, her gaze steady but grave.
Lin Langtian frowned. He certainly wanted to harness the Evil God's Eye's power, but he couldn't ignore the danger; after all, it had taken a supreme being like her to seal it the first time. The risk was high.
With the colossal black mist eye absorbed into the black orb in Lin Langtian's hand, the tremendous battle finally came to an end.
Yet, to simply destroy the Evil Eye now would be such a waste. After all, he had already subdued it, and if he could refine it, it would massively enhance his own combat strength. After a few moments of contemplation, Lin Langtian clenched his teeth and stated firmly, "I want to refine it. I hope you can forgive me, senior!"
As the saying goes, "Heaven's gifts are not to be wasted." If he let such a treasure slip by, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself.
Hearing this, Luo Liu gazed at him intently, then sighed and spoke in a deep voice, "This artifact is incredibly dangerous. Are you truly prepared for this and have no regrets?"
Lin Langtian nodded resolutely. "I have no regrets."
Luo Liu's eyes flickered with surprise when she saw that the Nine Nether Flame Bird did not try to dissuade him. A spirit beast linked by blood to a human shared the same fate as its partner; if she wasn't protesting, it likely meant Lin Langtian did indeed possess the ability to refine the Evil Eye. For a lower-plane youth, Lin Langtian had an unusual set of powers: dark energy from the outer demons and the trust of a Nine Nether Flame Bird.
Finally, Luo Liu nodded in reluctant agreement. "Very well, you may attempt to refine the Evil Eye here. I'll keep watch for you."
Though she didn't approve of his decision, Lin Langtian had been crucial in suppressing the Evil Eye. Moreover, he had the support of the Nine Nether Flame Bird. All she could do now was hope he could indeed subdue it. Otherwise, should it break free again, she wouldn't have the strength to seal it away once more.
"Thank you, senior!" Lin Langtian expressed his gratitude, aware that he was reaping the benefits of her hard-won victory over the Eye.
"No need for thanks. My time is short, so you'd better start refining it." Luo Liu waved him off.
With a nod, Lin Langtian examined the sinister, eye-like black orb in his hand before settling into a meditative position. This ancient hidden realm was secure, and with Luo Liu and his spirit guardian Ling Yi by his side, it was the ideal place to attempt refining the Evil God's Eye.
"Now, how to begin?" he murmured to himself. Refining a treasure from the outer demons was unprecedented, and this one was linked to a powerful, sentient body part.
"Oh well, might as well swallow it whole," he decided.
After a moment's hesitation, Lin Langtian brought the black orb to his lips and swallowed it.
Boom!
The moment the black orb entered his body, Lin Langtian's complexion darkened as he felt an ominous surge of energy erupt within.
Hiss!
In response, flames erupted from within him as he activated his fire armor to counter the malevolent energy.
Closing his eyes, Lin Langtian's consciousness found itself transported to a realm filled with dark, sinister mist.
Before him was an entire world drenched in black mist. Frowning, he took a step forward, placing his foot onto the dark ground, feeling the evil energy seep up from the earth, creeping into his very being.
Boom!
Suddenly, the ground trembled, sending visible ripples across the blackened terrain like pulsing waves. Lin Langtian gazed calmly at the sight, but his composure was soon interrupted by a giant fissure tearing open in the distant black mist, expanding until it formed a chasm miles wide.
Hehehe…
The eerie sound of twisted laughter echoed, sending a massive windstorm sweeping across the misty realm.
Peering into the depths of the chasm, Lin Langtian glimpsed a colossal shadow writhing within the darkness. His eyes narrowed, his focus unwavering as the shadow drew closer, until his pupils shrank in horror.
Boom!
From the depths of the canyon, a colossal, monstrous eye, the Evil God's Eye, emerged, as vast as the moon itself, hanging menacingly above him.
The eye was closed, but the mere sight of it made Lin Langtian's skin crawl.
"This… Is this the true form of the Evil God's Eye?"
Lin Langtian muttered, stunned. This was the eye that Luo Liu had fought and sealed away, and its unrestrained aura was far more overwhelming.
"This oppressive power…"
Even knowing that everything here was part of a mental realm and not truly real, Lin Langtian felt an unmistakable force bearing down on him. After all, it was a force that even a Luo Clan warrior could only contain through self-sacrifice.
Clenching his jaw, Lin Langtian forced himself to stare directly at the Evil Eye. If his spirit wavered here, he would undoubtedly fail.
Hiss!
It seemed that his stare irritated the Evil God's Eye, as it began to open.
With the eye's gradual opening, the dark mist around him grew agitated, and the world filled with ominous energy.
Slowly, the eye's lids fully parted, revealing an endless, black void that absorbed all light. The immense eye glared down at him, and Lin Langtian felt a chill wash over him.
Swoosh!
Then, a massive black beam of energy, hundreds of feet wide, shot out from the eye, tearing through the void.
