Diana halted her steps and immediately began to search for the source of the voice.
"Cough cough..."
The frail cough reverberated throughout the surroundings, which seemed to have become a bit warmer. Diana lightened her footsteps, trying to discern which room the cough was coming from.
"Uhm... cough cough..."
The person sounded very weak, as if they had been starving for a long time. But the area was desolate, home only to strange creatures, and the doors and windows had been sealed shut. Even if someone was brought here against their will, no one could survive in this place for a week.
She approached a white cottage, following the sound of the cough. The house had its windows and doors boarded up. Diana listened intently by the outside of the building, but the coughing ceased.
She wanted to call out but feared startling the unknown. At that moment, the person inside unexpectedly spoke first.
