I was getting ready to go out with humans. Jasper and Oleg were outside talking. I walked out in a pair of jeans and t-shirt. I searched everywhere for my hairpin. I finally found it in the fridge. I don't remember stuffing it there. I tied my hair into a bun and secured it with the pin. Serena asked, "What's so special about that pin?" I pulled the pin and twisted the top to reveal a sharp implement. Serena whistled. Roland stared curiously, "Do you really need that? You are tougher than the rest of us. If we fight you We will lose." I smiled, "I don't always want to be the center of attention. This will give me an added advantage. This can be used to pick locks and help in other situations" everyone raised an eyebrow and we went shopping with the girls. I boarded my car with Oleg and Jasper in the front and Roland was by my side. Serena and a few others stayed behind since they were vampires. The ride was slow and monotonous. I was bored so I asked them to speed up. Oleg politely mentioned, "The police will arrest us. So we have to maintain the speed limit." I placed my hand over my jacket and felt something in the lining. I asked them if there was a tracker in my clothes. Roland answered, "All your clothes have trackers. It will help us find you if you get kidnapped." I thanked him for his honesty and stared outside. Roland asked me if I missed the days when I was human. Oleg reprimanded him. I laughed, "It's fine. You are a nocturnal so that makes you family. If I can't be honest with you who can I talk to?" All three smiled. Oleg remarked, "They said protecting you will be different." I smiled, "I have amnesia so I have no recollection. But I did read my diary which is kept secure in Osteria Villa. According to it my days as a human were spent in the hospital. I may or may not be vomiting blood or food. I spend days unconscious. There are days I spend in a wheelchair and days I hobble around on crutches. So the only time I am enjoying health is after I turn to what you see. Batou confirmed it when he said I threw up on him and passed out for a week." Roland whistled, "That is something I would have never imagined. That's why you appreciated everything and everyone." I smiled as I tilted my head.
We arrived at the mall and the outfits were unusual. I asked the assistant, "Excuse me can you find me something for an evening event that makes me look mature and not someone from kindergarten?" The woman stared perplexed but decided to assist. Roland pointed out a few outfits and I explained how it would take forever to adjust it to my height. He showed me a different outfit and I pressed it against my skin and explained something, "Some colors don't compliment us. We would look like we just got out of the hospital. Some make us look beautiful. This color is not complimentary. You should check your wife's closet. Maybe you will get her something that will make her happy. She is the type who makes people happy because they make her happy." I looked out and found an outfit I remember she was drooling over. He stared, "Are you sure?" I grinned, "Last time I saw your wife she was practically drooling over this outfit. You get her this you are going to be the husband of the year." He immediately bought it and I faced Oleg. He was unmarried and I was happy for some unknown reason. We went to the food court. I was enjoying lunch when a man with a twisted ankle came dragging his leg. His skin was pale bluish green. His eyes were glazed over with white and his teeth were yellow. His breath was rattled. He made a gargling sound as he made his way towards us. Everyone remained very quiet. I had enough so I grabbed the chair and smashed it on his head. Then I swung my leg and knocked him on the floor. I remember sitting on him and demanding answers. I thought it was weird that I heard no heartbeat. One of my guards came and shot him in the head.
I sat down to finish my lunch as Oleg explained that the person I sat on was a zombie. I remember using hand sanitizer to sterilize the area. I asked Roland to remind me to burn the clothes I am wearing when we go home. We stopped for an extra pair of jeans and t-shirt before heading home. I asked Oleg to sit with me. Oleg loves to drive so he promised me that he will sit with me next time. Jasper wasn't happy about that. He was glaring daggers at us. And Roland jokingly asked if he was jealous. The only response was an angry look. The vampires and werewolves unity was still on the mend. Which means in the eyes of a few they were considered slaves or lesser than animals. I smiled as I entered the elevator. I leaned on Oleg and closed my eyes. Oleg stood very still and he looked like he was in pain. I promised he has nothing to worry about. He stood stiff as a board. When we reached the penthouse. He quietly walked to the balcony. I followed him and hugged him. I told him to let it out and it took some time before he cried. I stroked his back repeatedly. He finally had enough and walked to his room. Roland asked me, "Are you serious about this?" I simply tapped his forehead and he walked away from the room without a word. I went to the library and dove into a book on code breaking. I was hoping for some rest and relaxation. Soren came to tell me that I need to get my memory back. Or at least find some way to get the situation under control. Apparently the shield shifted a few feet inwards and the locals are not pleased. I explained how I was going to fix my amnesia after I got married.
He stared at me weirdly and then he congratulated me. He asked who the lucky man was. I shrugged, "I am still trying to warm up to him. The man had been through too much. I need to make sure he has found in er peace before I attempt to propose." Soren was smiling and I clarified, "He is a werewolf. He is part of security and I have developed feelings for him. I don't want him to think badly of me." He grinned, "I am happy for you. It's irrelevant who it is as long as it is the right person. Keep pushing. I am sure you will have your happily ever after." He gave me a hug and walked away. I leaned against the balcony wondering what the future holds. I took a deep breath and bit my arm. I got to see everything. I also realized that there was a traitor amongst us. It was Jasper. Anger overtook me as I showed the proof to the rest of my security. Roland came up with an original idea and took him to Aberdeen mansion. He was humanized and had to undergo memory erasure before he was sent to the hospital. I was thinking about dinner when Oleg apologized. He believed that there is someone better out there for me. I realized he believed that I was in love with Jasper. I smiled, "I was talking about you silly. Now let's go home." He was frozen for a few minutes before he moved. We reached home sweet home and he left for a few hours. The soldiers came requesting my presence in a demonstration of their newest achievement. They developed a supersoldier who has the ability to fight longer and stay tough till the very end.
I explained that I am unavailable at the moment so they can try another day. The man promised a demonstration when the situation was promising. I wished him luck. As I walked to the library Oleg asked me to show him. I was curious. He repeated, "Show me what you showed Roland" I sigh before I pressed my hand on his temple. He got to see everything. His expression was still of pain and heartache. He lost the woman he loved to an aristocrat. He was still nursing an aching heart. The pieces were smaller than a jigsaw puzzle. I promised to be by his side till he is ready. The next morning we left the city limits and I was introduced to seven individuals. A tall man of African American lineage with tattoos. Two women of Chinese descent. Four Caucasian men in varying height and muscle mass. They used their weapons and everyday ordinary items to kill a bunch of zombies. I waited a few seconds before Abe gave the orders. I rolled my eyes,"My horse is better than your horse. Count me out" Abe asked nicely, "Please" I took a deep breath, "Since you said please." I turned around and shrieked. The zombies fell down and had seizures before they died. I took a machete and took a fighting pose and moved so fast that nothing was able to detect it. I took a different pose after I was done. I turned around and placed the machete on the table as the chompers fell dead as though an invisible force had killed them. Abe grinned, "Now that you have your special forces. Sasha will retract the shield. She will extend it in the nocturnal quarters. So we can start fixing the flaws in security." The general looked flustered.
We left the zombie zone and went back to Piedra de la Luna and I was ordered to retract the shield. I did as instructed. The humans were rallied outside the gates demanding the extension of the shield. They were happy knowing that these menaces were unable to move in. An hour after I retracted the shield a manhole cover popped out and a few zombies came out to have a feeding frenzy. Abe mentioned the army's new super weapon. The locals made it clear they wanted something effective. They have seen the so-called technological advancements. All have resulted in increased death tolls. So after they spend three hours yelling at Abe for his stupidity. I was given permission to extend the shield. The administration wasn't happy about the terms and conditions Abe laid out. One was to stop showing off since all it did was more harm than good. I was given a penthouse in one of the high-rises. I asked Oleg if he was free to join me for dinner. He said he still needed time and he will give me an answer soon. The soldiers came the next day asking if I could come with them to the nearest town to save a few survivors. Soren spoke on my behalf reminding them that I am not an errand girl so they had better learn to clean up their own messes like adults. I am a princess and I am handling nocturnal affairs. They left and I heard them mention some sort of experiment where they capture some of us. I relayed the information and Abe ordered me to follow them discreetly.
I followed them and found their secret headquarters. It was a dilapidated two storey house. The windows were broken. The wall had several cracks. The paint had faded and had begun to chip away in places. The pavement was sledgehammered. The cars were stripped of parts. Some were missing doors, tyres, hood, engine and a few had no steering wheel. The dashboard was covered with layer upon layer of spiderwebs. The building was swaying ever so slightly. There were a few zombies on the streets. An old lady with tousled hair. She still had her nightgown on and had curlers on. The next was an obese man with his t-shirt rolled up showing his big belly. The next was a child no older than ten. His curly hair was matted with dried blood. And his face had claw marks. The soldiers had set up a perimeter and they had someone hostage. It was my Oleg. So I focused on my hunger and somehow the zombies came forth thinking dinner was served. The front door has no lock so it swung open and hit the frame several times before it slammed shut very loudly. The soldiers seemed less spooked since they were used to it. But they weren't ready for the chompers who came barging in. They were distracted as they opened fire. I snuck in and rescued my dearest. We both made it around the block when the soldiers screamed in frustration. They realized we were missing. I grabbed Oleg and ran to the bridge. We got to the other side and he pushed a few buttons which raised the bridge. I made us invisible and we ran till we reached the park. We believed that we had given them the slip. Exhausted as we were we both laughed. He looked at me with delighted eyes, "Marry me Sasha." I delightfully said yes. He kissed me and we stared at each other. I heard a buzzing sound associated with drones so we ran till we reached the wall in the nocturnal quarters. The gates opened and Abe demanded answers. After we both took turns explaining the council made a decision to leave October forever and move elsewhere. Before we left the city Oleg and I officially became husband and wife. As we left we detonated the sector since Abe was sure that they had built underground labs to make more. We saw the first of the new batches and they included huge bats, giant worms and deranged birds.
