I was in the toilet when the munchers were let loose by a disgruntled employee. I heard the screams of the civilians. The zombies followed the people everywhere. I waited till the coast was clear. I quietly walked out and made it back to where the civilians used to huddle together. Unfortunately all I saw were blood stained belongings of the former survivors, their dismembered body parts and a gun. I searched everywhere for things that weren't stained. I managed to collect a few things and stuff them in a backpack. I carefully walked towards the exit. I had to go through a long corridor with flickering lights. I walked past zombies as they ate their victims. One raised its head to look at me. He and one other were eating the flesh of an elderly military officer. One was munching on his face. The zombie who looked at me was eating the dead man's stomach. After a right turn I had to go through a corridor where the lights were destroyed. To human eyes this place was pitch black. I can see in the dark perfectly so I walked past zombies with ease. Then came the service elevator. I used it to reach the basement level. The humans were running in the opposite direction. I asked what had happened. One responded that the door was jammed so they were heading in a different direction to get out.
So I followed them. I was with them from the basement to the ground floor. I hid inside a hummer before I made myself invisible. The moment I smelled fresh oxygen I ran like crazy till I reached the border. The others boarded a helicopter I heard beeping as though someone had pressed a few buttons. The entire building came crashing down like a domino avalanche. I held my breath and stuffed my fingers in my ears as I hid behind trees. I saw the air was enveloped with dust debris that was pushing forward. I ran as far as possible. I ran for miles before I stopped to take a breath. Fresh air was a welcome delight. I sat down to figure out my next move. I took a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature when I heard arguing. I quietly climbed up a tree and watched. A man in his thirties, a woman in her twenties and another man in his sixties walked in. The woman shouted, "You idiot. Look where you've landed us. There is nobody here." The man in his thirties waved a tablet. He replied, "I was reviewing the recording of the destruction of the prison. I think I found a discrepancy. See there is a brief moment where everything is normal and suddenly something shoots out." The woman slapped him sharply in the back of the head, "That's debris that shot out with tremendous amount of force you nincompoop. That is a delayed reaction. There are gas canisters down there. One of them could have ignited and blasted off like a missile. Count your luck we weren't down there or we would be dead. Let's get back to the chopper." The man tried to argue but they overpowered him and dragged him to the chopper. I stared in hatred as they boarded the chopper.
I stuck myself to the base of the chopper and reached the secret laboratory in the mountains. It was protected by three foot steel doors. The chopper landed and one of them walked to an empty room. Moments later lasers activated to project images of angry board of directors. They were yelling for the delay. The man in tactical gear reminded the other that these guys were experimenting on zombies. The cover story is that they are looking for a cure. The actual fact is they are creating zombies since people are getting more efficient at killing the ones roaming the land. The thinning process is not going to happen if certain people of society whom they had deemed as viruses are not eliminated. All of this so they can plunder the earth's riches and to repopulate the Earth according to their sick doctrine. The monitoring system failed, the weaponized viruses failed. The project to induce fear into the masses had failed drastically. This was their last hope before using a nuclear deterrent. As a result the earth will be toxic and uninhabitable. The man assured the board that he is pretending to help civilians so they would lower their guard. They had to wait a day or two before they unleashed the menace. This delay helped them because they are pulling survivors out of their ears. The directors were satisfied with the answer. They switched conversation inquiring if they had made any progress finding me. The response was simple. He believes that I was in Saber since the zombies were behaving erratic. They had no clue where I was at the present time.
My uncle's image came into view. I thought he was dead. Turns out the zombie was a clone. I was so pissed but I kept my mouth shut. I waited till it was over and walked out to see. There were those who had turned into vampires and werewolves. They were waiting for the next upgrade. The upgrade can only occur if they extract the blood from me. Unknown to them my blood is poisonous. I have been ingesting a nightshade and I had a small bottle filled with the stuff. While zombies were allowed on the premises vampires and werewolves were roaming around. These weren't from the clans and covens. These were the elite who had turned to be conquerors. I quietly moved around and they sensed my presence. Even uncle sensed me. The thing is they can't see me. They consider themselves the cream of the crop. So for them to feel like a low ranking errand boy was insulting. They tried to feel superiority but they couldn't. They asked security to lock down the facility immediately. Uncle J called out, "Whoever you are please come out. We promise not to hurt you. We just want to talk. We want to know why you feel like our boss. We want to negotiate with you so we can coexist." I made myself visible, "Hello Uncle J looking good. What's your secret?" The others were speechless. They didn't know we were related. Security came but they told them to back away. Uncle J told them to return to their stations.
I leaned against the wall and asked, "How many nonhumans did you bleed to be this? When did you become two faced?" He stared at me awestruck. The other elite ordered me to handover a blood sample. I smiled, "Why don't you fold like a deck chair?" She did so immediately. She was speechless and were the others. I smiled, "You are speaking to an alpha. You are all Omega. You think that you can bleed me? All I have to do is scream and you will rip your own hearts out. Shall I give you a demonstration?" I took a deep breath and screamed. Sure enough the so called higher species ripped their own heart out and died. Uncle J stared at me with terror. I smiled, "So what's going on with you these days? Who wound you up? What can I do to stop your madness." He tried to explain evolution. I smiled, "That's a load of baloney. You are no different from Molly. Looking for the next upgrade because you have a problem being obsolete." He stared, "I was hoping to be on the top but you somehow did it. How was this possible?" I shrugged, "I believe it is none of your business dear clone." He shook his head, "I always love that nickname. Tell me who made you what you are?" I smiled, "I was going back to my room after I overheard the doctor tell mom that my death was near so there will be no more meds. I was feeling misery. When all of a sudden I heard two people talking about a universal cure. I used it and I became this." He grinned, "You assume it is a cure." I smiled, "Do you remember how I used to be? Hobbling on crutches, zooming in wheelchairs and carried around by Batou. I stopped being that a few days after the injection. I threw away all my meds. I was able to walk home. You didn't notice how I didn't have any sort of assistance walking to your car? That's funny my uncle would have noticed the difference." He stared for a moment and realized I was being honest. He muttered, "Complete reversal of effects. Amazing." He came out of his trance, "Open the doors. Let's see how you can get out of here in one piece."
I gave him a toothy grin and waited till the door was partially opened before I zipped out. He didn't have a chance to blink. He ran as fast as his legs would let him. By the time he reached the monitors I was already outside. I waved and waited. The zombies came out and I didn't even budge. The zombies made room for me as they walked out to terrorize the world. I got bored standing so I started walking so my uncle could see clearly. I made sure I was closer to the camera so he could see them moving away from me as the zombies pretended that I was a brick wall. He swore like a sailor and he used the microphone to request, "Alexi could you please get inside for a few minutes." I laughed menacingly and waved before I used superspeed to go elsewhere. He ordered his men to find and bring me back in one piece. The garage door slid open and tanks rolled out. Drones weren't far behind. They used lasers to scan the place but I was faster. The zombies were everywhere and they couldn't get a bead on me. I had practiced how to change my core temperature so they couldn't find me. I walked at the speed of a glacier. They went past me and didn't see me at all. I smiled as I tried to figure my next pitstop.
I found a half built apartment complex that was abandoned. So I decided to go there and stay there until further notice. The others came too as they spread out trying to scrounge for their next meal. They walked around and were searching for any sign of life. The drones searched and a soldier came out of the tank and smacked the drone like it was malfunctioning. He explained to the command center that I have disappeared and the drones can't find me. The sensors are saying I am not here anymore. I walked out casually till I was in the red zone. I made sure my shield was snuggly wrapped around my body as I walked towards the place they called the dead zone or no man's land. I walked till I was at the border of Machine city. They were sending their best tools to hunt me. I found it to be absurd. But I kept moving as I walked in to see a sign that said 'Welcome to Astute' the next one says 'Trespassers beware' I kept walking till I was at the city square. The alarm went off that a cold blooded creature is here so I immediately adjusted my temperature so the alarm would switch off. It did and one of the women climbed up the pole and recalibrated the machine. She explained, "There was a thunderstorm yesterday so it is possible it was struck by lightning. We will have to replace this before the end of the day." The mayor ordered the parts to be brought over. The woman happily repaired the machine before she resumed shopping for basic necessities. There was an announcement that the newest species of zombies were out. It originates from a Saber fortress. The locals were told to be extra careful as the scientific community figured out how to block them. Any and all excursions were forbidden till they figured how bad the situation could get. They spoke about mandating a curfew. I was watching them discuss what roles everyone must fill. This was refreshing but I wasn't going to relax as far as I was concerned this was the black zone.
