Lily was stunned. For a moment, she stood dazed, her eyes widening as she stared at Ewan, trying to discern whether he was joking—but his expression gave nothing away.
"Ewan," she whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "You really don't remember me?" Her voice choked, her heart aching, and the tears spilled freely.
Ewan was at a loss for words. There was a strange familiarity, yet it felt entirely foreign. Seeing her cry made his chest tighten. He reached out gently and brushed the tears from her cheeks.
"Tears don't suit you," he murmured, his voice softer now, losing the icy edge it had carried before. "You're far too beautiful to be crying like that."
Dora's anger flared. Her eyes, rimmed red from holding back tears, she could no longer contain her fury, and she stormed forward.
