Late at Night
Ewan lay sprawled across the couch when Lucian slipped into the room and gently tapped his shoulder.
"You're ready?" Ewan asked without moving.
"Yes," Lucian whispered. After a brief hesitation, he added, "Um… Dora insists on escaping with us."
Ewan clicked his tongue in irritation and rose to his feet. "Can this even be called escaping anymore?" he muttered as he straightened up.
"Take a step back," he instructed.
Lucian obeyed without question.
Ewan crouched down and calmly brushed dust off the floor, revealing a directional map he had sketched earlier. "Come closer," he urged.
Lucian stepped forward at once, freezing when he saw the markings. "This is—"
"Can you memorize it now?" Ewan interrupted evenly.
"It's a bit diff—"
"Call that human girl. Memorize it together. There's no time," Ewan cut in again.
"I'm here," Dora's low voice rang out as she stepped forward.
