Her teeth clenched around her thumbnail as she went through her bank accounts.
"This can't be happening," she said as she scrolled through her phone.
Footsteps could be heard from the hallway.
The door slammed open as the maid rushed in.
"Can't anyone do something right for once?" Katherine's head snapped to the maid.
"Ma'am. Th- the police are at the door, and they are calling for you."
The maid sat on the chair to catch her breath.
"Wha- what do you mean, police? Tell them I'm not here. And why are you sitting down? Go make yourself useful."
The maid looked at Katherine through her eyelashes and scoffed. She leaned against the chair.
"Useful? You haven't paid me for weeks now, and you're talking about usefulness."
"Yo- you. Dirty old girl, how dare you talk to me that way?"
Katherine said, walking toward the maid. Before she could raise her hand, the door slammed open.
Two police officers walked in.
"Mrs Katherine Edison. You are under arrest."
"What do you mean?"
The officers walked towards her, with one holding handcuffs. Katherine walked back.
"Don't come any closer. I'm warning you."
Her back hit something hard; she turned her head to see another officer behind her.
"Your arrest is necessary to allow us to carry out a prompt and effective investigation."
"What? What nonsense is this?"
The click of handcuffs filled her ears as they dragged her out of the house.
"Let go of me, morons. Do you know who my husband is?"

"Red Bull? What is he doing there?"
His fingers clenched around his phone, and his jaw tightened.
"Book two tickets to England. Now."

Her eyes followed his movement through the mirror.
"I received an unexpected amount of money today and a few days ago. Explain." Avery said
Alex smiled and walked towards her; he buried his face in her neck.
"Yeah. You don't want it?"
"I didn't say that. I said explain."
Alex took a sniff of her neck before he straightened his posture.
"It's from the Edisons. Treat it like compensation money for everything they did to you and your mom."
Avery turned to face him.
"What happened to them now?"
"Albert turned against her. He handed evidence of his crimes, saying they were all Katherine's. So now Katherine would be facing serious charges, and if she's convicted, she could spend the rest of her life behind bars."
"And Albert?"
"Your father and I would handle him. Investigators have enough evidence to bring charges against him, too."
Avery folded her arms.
"And the money?"
" Some of the Edisons' assets have been sold. The money I transferred to you came from a settlement arranged through their lawyers. Everything is documented."
"That's it? Katherine goes to prison, and Albert gets arrested, and I get money?"
"There's more to come, my beautiful wife."
Avery sighed.
"They had it really easy. I wish they could suffer more before their death."
