Chapter 1 - Prologue

[Year x755]

[The Kingdom of Fiore]

[City of Magnolia]

"I hope you know if we get caught," Gildarts whispered, "I'm telling everyone this was your idea."

Ivan turned his head away from the chest to look at his red-haired friend. "If we get caught it's going to be because of you lacking subtly and a brain." He hissed the words to his oaf of a friend.

Gildarts snorted. "First of all subtlety is stupid and I have a brain you ass."

Ivan laughed. "Oddly enough that's something someone who lacks both would say."

Gildarts face turned red, he was about to retaliate before soft whispering interrupted his thoughts from behind; he glanced over his shoulder at two small figures crouched in front of the door peering through a finger wide crack.

Gildarts grumbled and turned to face the two children.

"Are they still fighting?"

"Of course they're still fighting!" Wakaba hissed.

"It's Tuesday!" Maco added.

Both turned to look at Gildarts.

"You know what they serve on Tuesday?" They asked in union.

Gildarts looked at them in surprise. "Its Tuesday? Since when?"

Both looked at each other in horror before sniffling and holding back tears. "Yes! And they're serving meat pies and cake!"

Gildarts eyes widened and eyebrows rose. "Really? Ivan is that true?"

Ivan didn't turn around, instead he just muttered to himself. "Sometimes I wonder if you listen to anything I say."

"Wait so it's true?"

Wakaba and Maco maid odd groining noises as they returned to watch the chaos in the meal hall.

Gildarts turned his head side to side. "Huh, what happened?"

Ivan snorted. "My statement earlier was just proven, that's all, nothing much."

Gildarts walked towards him. "Stop talking and tell me you broke the dam lock."

Ivan looked up at him, then smiled.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then the locked made an odd sound and fell to the ground broken.

"There," he said. "Done."

Gildarts stared at the door like it had personally insulted him. "That's it?"

Ivan raised a brow. "Did you want my dad to notice?"

Gildarts paused.

"…Fair enough."

Behind them, Wakaba turned sharply. "Wait, you actually opened it?"

Macao gasped. "No way."

The two scrambled over towards Ivan and Gildarts like starved wolves.

They were met with a raised hand from Ivan.

"Sorry kido's maybe when your older you can pick some brats up and break into the old man's secret stash. Right now, you're a bit too young for even me to hand you a bottle without second thoughts."

Wakaba and Maco paled and looked at Ivan like they had just been stabbed in the heart.

Wakaba whispered in a soft voice. "I-Ivan wait please...c'mon you can trust us. I promise will be safe."

Ivan shook his head. "No can do buddy, I would probably give the old man a heart attack if learned I gave nine-year-olds ale met for giants."

Gildarts laughed from where he stood. "He's got a point; the old man would probably send us to the council for giving kids like you Giants Moonshine."

Ivan laughed along with his friend before tossing him a bottle. Gildarts in swift beautiful motion caught it, then uncapped it and chugged the whole bottle in under ten seconds.

Ivan already drinking his own fell onto his back laughing while Gildarts let out a monstrous burp before snagging another bottle from the chest.

Wakaba and Maco looked at the two wide eyes before looking at each other.

"We can take them," Maco whispered.

Wakaba sighed. "No, no we can't. It's not fair...I wanted to try ale for the first time." Tears were about to come from his eyes before the door creaked open.

Both Maco and Wakaba turned slowly to see the small figure before them. They paled. Master Makarov stood at the door both hands on his cane burning with a fury never seen before.

"M-Master Makarov..." The two said, their hushed voices gone.

"I thought I smelled something from downstairs." He walked over to his two children rolling on the floor laughing. "Well, it seems you've brats have found your way into my personal collection." A smiled appeared on his face.

Then in one hand he lifted his cane. "AND STOLEN MY DRINKS." His cane came down in a swift motion; his first strike landed on Ivan's head while the next on Gildarts.

Both yelped in pain as the wood slammed into their heads.

"Son of a bi-" Gildarts muttering cut off as his eyes flew wide open.

Ivan on the other hand open one eye then both. "Huh, uh oh, I guess you caught us old man."

Makarov's face was filled with anger. "That's not going to save you today bra-"

"It was Gildarts idea," Ivan said, his words cold and previous drunkenness gone. "He forced me to help him get the alcohol, I told him it was a bad ide-."

"BASTARD IT WAS YOU TOO." Gildarts roared and tackled Ivan.

The two teens rolled across the floor of the second floor like rabid wolves.

In the next seconds Makarov, Wakaba, and Maco all watched as both Ivan Dreyer and Gildarts Clive fought like idiots, laughing pain away.

Full of ale.

"YOU MISSED A SPOT!" Makarov barked from atop the counter, a spot he often sat with a cup of strong ale.

He had no cup today, he had been robbed of all his good drinks, by his own children.

His wrath had never been swifter.

The meal hall of Fairy Tail was empty though a complete reck.

Wooden benches had been overturned or broken, while both food and drinks littered the ground.

One of Makarov's punishments on the two youths had been to clean the entire hall. With wet scrubs and a broom. Perhaps a light punishment if not for him being present to yell at the two brats.

"We're cleaning the best we can..." Gildarts muttered.

"I HEARD THAT!"

Gildarts back stiffened as he glanced over his shoulder at Makarov.

"I SAID I'M SORRY! What more do ya want?"

"I want you to CLEAN! And stop talking back brat!"

Gildarts was about to say something, but he thought better of it and got back to scrubbing.

Ivan who was on the other side of the meal hall was standing by himself, a smile on his face as he played around with the broom he had been given.

Makarov gave his son a withering look.

"Huh, what's that for? I told you it was all the oafs idea." Ivan said, his voice conveying innocents.

Makarov grumbled to himself. "You're telling me Gildarts staged a fight between Dory and Brog, snuck up to the second floor with three others, and drank all my ale in under five minutes?"

Ivan paused for a moment. "Yea your right that's pretty outlandish for Gildarts to do all by himself."

Gildarts whirled around and charged at Ivan with terrible fury. He never made it a foot more as his body froze in place.

Ivan glanced at his father.

Makarov held one finger up, then sighed.

His voice was firm when he spoke. "You two have reached the age that it's come time for me to make your proper Fairy Tail mages. No more stealing, no more drinking, and no more sill competitions. It's time for you too to learn magic!"

Ivan looked to Gildarts who flopped to the ground.

Gildarts looked at Ivan.

'There's no way this actually worked...' Gildarts thought as he looked to Master Makarov.

"Starting tomorrow you two will begin your training to become mages!"

"Boo." Ivan said as he waved his thumb down.

Makarov looked at him.

The next second hell broke loose again and all the hard work to clean the meal hall disappeared as Makarov transformed into a giant and chased down his idiot of a son.

Gildarts fell to the floor laughing.

Wakaba and Maco, hiding in the corner of the hall, snickered to themselves as they watched the show of events before them.

This was certainly your average day in Fairy Tail.
