Randall sat up with a frown and squinted, trying to catch a glimpse of the ground from the bird's back. However, all he could see was the mushroom's stem stretching endlessly below them.
He then glanced at the sunrays filtering through the stems and grew doubtful. Everything around him was beginning to feel strange.
"Something is wrong. We should have reached the ground by now. Enough time has passed, yet it's still noon," he muttered aloud, voicing his suspicions.
His words made the guard sit up with a start. His gaze darted towards the sunny sky as he mentally calculated how long they had been travelling. He immediately realized that something was indeed wrong.
"Stop!" he commanded his beast sharply.
The bird stopped descending and attempted to perch against the mushroom's stem, only to discover that it couldn't get any closer, no matter how near the stem appeared to be.
