Chapter 2 - NEW LIFE

Amelia had been able to settle down after 4 months. She had been able to get past her feelings for Ryan but developed a crush on her handsome boss. Some might see him as a heartless boss, but he was funny, smart, and nice towards her. She never knew how she was able to get to be his personal assistant, but she knew he was the boss. She even helped him work out his dirty job but never took part in it, and he never seemed to mind, and that is where his male assistant Caleb came in.

On this fateful night, she was at his house working out a business contract, comparing which company would be beneficial to them if they agreed to their terms.

"How many percent do they agree to give us?" Alex asked.

"62% highest, but I don't think working with them will benefit us. They have like three companies against them, not willing to work with them, meaning we will be at a loss," she replied gently.

"Hmmm," he said, passing her her banana juice. She took it while he settled down right next to her.

"But look at this," she said, taking the file out of the bundle of files on the table and opening it.

"Charles agreed to give us 57%, 5% short, right?" She opened the next page. "They agreed to produce more, meaning we will have more profit, and they seem to have the favour of the public," she explained gently.

"Their shares are actually costly, but I know you can afford it. But within three years we will see the profit the others promised us and even the money you paid for the shares," she explained breathlessly.

He clapped.

"Why am I not surprised? You would have gone through this before," he asked, sipping his pineapple drink.

"Stayed up last night going through it. Guess it was worth it," she said, picking up her drink from the table and taking a sip.

"You do know we would have gone through this together, right?" he asked.

"Yes, but you would have to stay up. Which reminds me, you have a meeting with Mr. Anderson by 7am, but you first have to stop at Miss Catherine's house by 6am for breakfast."

"Cancel my breakfast with her," he said with clear disgust.

"You can't. You cancelled thrice last week, and you need to get in favour with her, remember?"

"Are you coming along then?"

"No, I have to stay up looking at this file, making sure there is no mistake, and I have to submit the file to Caleb to go into the company and make sure they are internally good before making some changes to the contract."

"I could help you look into it," he said worriedly.

"No need. This is 2am, and you need to be up by 5am, and your meeting is for two hours. You wouldn't be having a break till 4pm."

"When will you sleep?" he questioned.

"If I am not able to sleep now, I will sleep later in the day during your meetings."

"You won't. You will have to take notes."

"Then I will sleep in the next two hours and meet you by 7am."

"Ok," he said, standing up.

"Do you need more drink?"

"Yes, please."

He went to the kitchen and came back with a jug filled with cold banana drink.

"Thank you," she said gratefully.

"Sleep tight," he replied, leaving her all alone with her thoughts.

By the time she was awake, she had a blanket on her with her lying perfectly on the couch. She looked at the time: 5:30am. She went towards Alex's room to discover he was out. She helped him arrange his room for 30 minutes and went to take her bath and prepared for work in her room in his house. She was late; it was 25 minutes till 7am, so she called Caleb.

"Where are you?" she asked.

"Outside." She hung up the call.

She went downstairs, picked up the file on the table, and arranged the others together.

She hurriedly put on her earrings as she went out. She bumped into Caleb at the door, taking a few steps back.

"Here is the file," she said, stretching it towards him.

"Find if they have history of not keeping to their contracts and if they have internal trouble with anyone. They are too clean, and the basics like always," she replied.

"Okay. Will you be available for pickup tomorrow?"

"Yes. What time?" she asked.

"What time will you be back? Let me drop it off—your house or here?"

"I will inform you tomorrow. I have a meeting I have to meet up with. Let's catch up later."

"Okay," he replied.

She asked a driver to drop her off at the cinema, but by the time she got there, it was five minutes past seven. She was escorted by a staff member at the cinema to the meeting room.

"You are 7 minutes late," Alex scolded her, sitting at the head of the table.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," she apologized to everyone, ignoring Alex like it was a normal thing in public and going to stand close to him at the table.

"Let's begin."

She brought out the office jotter and pen just like everyone else except Alex.

"Heard you haven't been having enough customers like before."

"Yes, they have been complaining about the price being too costly and poor hospitality," the manager answered, scared.

"Then I expect some staff to be sacked."

"Yes, I already looked into the staff, and twenty staff will be let go."

"And?" Alex asked.

"I think the price should be reduced due to…"

"Sorry to interrupt, but the price issue—I think latest and popular movies should be made premium, while comedy should have its own section on its own," Amelia said.

"Continue," Alex encouraged.

"Movies should be charged according to what they entail, and a section should be made free for the locals, but with limited space like thirty seats. And also a VIP section for extra income. While I was coming, I noticed the extra small rooms for storage. They should be cleared out and made into a VIP section with special food and drinks and awesome lighting."

"Will her idea work?" Alex asked.

"It could," the manager said, smiling.

"And more staff will need to be employed," Alex said.

"I will look into that," the managing assistant said.

"Good," said Alex.

"Guess we are done here," Amelia confirmed.
