Chapter 4 - BOSS LADY TO THE RESCUE

The week was hectic, so Alex decided the whole company deserved the weekend off. He was at his house watching a horror movie with Amelia and Caleb. Amelia kept screaming, which made him and Caleb burst into laughter.

"What's so funny?" she asked, annoyed, her face scrunched up.

"You should've known she would be attacked by the ghost," Caleb said, a broad smile on his face.

"What do you mean? You think I would know a ghost can be a psychopath?" she asked, still annoyed.

"Exactly. Ghosts are never normal," Caleb replied.

Alex looked at his two close friends—especially Caleb, who everyone thought was cold-blooded—arguing like two little children. Just then, his phone beeped.

It was a message from his account department head.

Mr. Brown: Just an update—Mr. Smith has decided not to move forward with our partnership. They found a better offer elsewhere. What next step should we take?

Alex frowned at the message, feeling the weekend mood crash instantly. "Seriously? Today?" he muttered.

Amelia peeked at his phone. "Oh no… That's bad."

"It's terrible," Caleb added, leaning back on the couch. "They were a big client, right?"

Alex ran a hand through his hair. "The biggest. And they just… walked away." He shook his head. "I can't believe it. After everything we prepared."

Amelia tilted her head, thinking quickly. "Do you know why they left?"

"They found a better offer," Alex said, his voice tight. "Apparently, we weren't competitive enough."

Caleb snorted. "Better offer my foot. You know what that means—they just got greedy. We could probably fix this if we tried."

Alex looked at him. "Fix it? It's the weekend, Caleb. Nobody's in the mood to negotiate today."

Amelia leaned forward, eyes sharp. "I can try. Maybe I can call them, see if there's any way to bring them back."

Alex blinked. "You? On the weekend?"

"Exactly," she said, grinning slightly. "You wouldn't let them slip through our hands, would you? You trust me, right?"

Alex exchanged a glance with Caleb. Caleb just shrugged with a grin. "Go on, boss lady. Show us how it's done."

Amelia rolled her eyes at Caleb but smiled. "Fine. Give me the client's contact."

Alex typed in the number, then smirked. "Don't mess this up, Amelia. I need results, not excuses."

Amelia shot him a playful glare. "Excuses? Me? You've got the wrong person, boss."

Caleb laughed. "Yeah, leave the excuses to Alex!"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Hey! I don't make excuses. I just… delegate brilliantly."

Amelia shook her head, grinning, and dialed. "Hi, Mr. Smith? It's Amelia, from Alex's team."

"Ah… Amelia. I wasn't expecting a call this weekend," the client said, sounding a little guarded.

"I know, and I'm sorry for the timing. But I wanted to make sure we don't lose sight of what we've built together," Amelia replied, keeping her voice calm but confident.

There was a pause on the line. "Alright… I'm listening."

Amelia leaned back in the chair, glancing at Alex and Caleb, who were watching her like she was performing magic. "I understand you received another offer, and it seems appealing. But I want to go over a few things you might not have considered."

She walked them through every detail Alex's team had prepared: delivery timelines, support services, and the benefits they'd receive if they stayed. But she didn't just repeat the contract—she personalized it.

"You mentioned faster delivery was a deciding factor," Amelia said. "We can guarantee that with our new logistics plan. Plus, if any adjustments are needed, I'll personally handle it—no waiting for approval from multiple departments."

"Hmm… That's impressive," the client admitted. "But the competitor is offering a lower cost."

Amelia didn't hesitate. "I know. But cost isn't the only factor here. Quality, reliability, and flexibility matter too. With us, you're not just another client. You get the full attention of Alex and the team. For example, we've already anticipated potential problems with your account and prepped solutions—so you won't waste time troubleshooting later."

"Prepped solutions? Can you give me an example?"

Amelia smiled, thinking quickly. "Absolutely. Last week, we noticed a potential supply delay in one of your regions. We've already contacted alternative vendors and set up a backup plan. If you had gone with the other company, you'd be the one scrambling now."

The client let out a small laugh. "I admit, that's… reassuring. And your attention to detail?"

"That's what we do," Amelia said confidently. "Alex trusts me to handle every detail, and I won't let either of you down."

Alex whispered to Caleb, shaking his head in awe. "She's incredible. I didn't realize she could be this persuasive."

Caleb grinned. "I told you, boss. She's got this."

Amelia continued, "I know adjustments are needed to match your expectations. Let's tweak this clause here, and this section here, and you'll have exactly what you wanted—plus peace of mind that we'll deliver as promised."

Another pause. "Alright, Amelia… Monday, then. We'll review your adjustments. But I have to say, I didn't expect you to handle this so effectively."

Amelia laughed lightly. "I guess you'll just have to trust Alex's team—they're full of surprises."

She hung up and looked at Alex. "They're back on board. Just a few tweaks, and Monday we'll finalize everything."

Alex stared at her, slightly breathless. "You… just did all that… on the weekend?"

Amelia shrugged, smiling. "Someone had to save the deal while you panicked."

Caleb laughed even louder. "See, boss? You can't keep this girl from saving the day."

Alex leaned back, finally letting out a long breath. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Amelia. Seriously."

Amelia felt a small warmth in her chest. "Well… someone has to keep you from messing things up completely."

Alex smirked, teasing one last time. "Maybe I like it when you save my butt. Makes me feel… appreciated."

Amelia rolled her eyes, smiling. "Just don't get used to it."

They all laughed, the tension easing. For a moment, the weekend felt safe again. But Alex knew one thing for sure: Amelia wasn't just his assistant. She was his secret weapon—and he trusted her more than he'd ever admit.
