Chapter 44 - THE TEMPLE OF ORIGINS

🌒 Chapter 44 — The Temple of Origins

Seven days.

That was all the time they had.

By sunrise, the Crimson Dusk Pack was already preparing for the journey.

Maps covered the Alpha's table. Ancient books were scattered across the floor. Jake, Kael, Aslam, Jayden, and Ivy searched for any mention of the Temple of Origins.

Xander sat nearby, coloring quietly.

Finally, Jake slammed an old book shut.

"Found it."

Everyone turned.

He opened the book to a faded drawing of a mountain surrounded by strange symbols.

"The Temple of Origins isn't on any modern map."

Kael leaned over.

"Because it isn't always in the same place."

Ivy frowned.

"What does that mean?"

"The temple moves."

Jayden sighed.

"Of course it does."

Aslam pointed to the page.

"There's a location."

Jake nodded.

"The temple appears wherever the four elements meet."

Ivy immediately understood.

"The ancient valley."

Kael looked at her.

"Exactly."

---

The Journey

By afternoon, the group had reached the edge of the mountains.

The forest became unusually quiet.

No birds.

No insects.

Not even the wind.

Ivy felt something watching them.

"Stay close," she warned.

Xander held Jayden's hand.

Jake walked ahead while Kael and Aslam guarded the sides.

Suddenly—

CRACK!

A branch snapped.

Everyone stopped.

"Who's there?" Jayden called.

Nothing answered.

Then a familiar voice came from behind them.

"Still protecting her?"

Ivy turned.

Elias stood between the trees.

Jake immediately stepped forward.

"You."

Elias raised his hands.

"I'm not here to fight."

Ivy stared at him.

"Then why are you here?"

"Because you need me."

Jake scoffed.

"We don't need traitors."

Elias looked at him.

"You still don't understand."

He turned toward Ivy.

"The Temple of Origins was built by the first Keepers."

Ivy's expression changed.

"What do you know about it?"

"I know how to enter."

Silence.

Jayden narrowed his eyes.

"Why should we trust you?"

"You shouldn't."

Elias smiled sadly.

"But you don't have another choice."

---

The Temple

As the sun disappeared behind the mountains, they finally reached the valley.

Four enormous stone pillars stood around a circular pool.

Fire burned inside the first.

Water flowed around the second.

Wind spiraled around the third.

Roots covered the fourth.

Ivy stepped forward.

The four elements responded immediately.

Her eyes glowed.

The ground trembled.

A massive stone doorway appeared between the pillars.

Words appeared across it:

ONLY THOSE WHO CHOOSE FAMILY MAY ENTER.

Xander looked up.

"That's easy."

He took Ivy's hand.

"You're my family."

Then he grabbed Jayden's hand.

"Daddy too."

Jake smiled.

Kael joined them.

"And us."

Aslam placed her hand on Jake's shoulder.

"We're all going in."

Elias remained behind.

Ivy looked back.

"What about you?"

Elias shook his head.

"The temple doesn't accept me."

"Why?"

"Because I chose power once."

The doorway opened.

Ivy looked at him.

"You can choose differently now."

Elias stared at her.

For a moment, something like regret crossed his face.

Then he followed.

---

The Hall of Memories

Inside, the walls glowed with ancient symbols.

As they walked deeper, images appeared around them.

Ivy saw her childhood.

Jake saw the night they were separated.

Kael saw himself being carried away.

Then they saw their parents.

Alive.

Together.

Happy.

Xander pointed.

"That's Grandma."

Ivy's eyes filled with tears.

A recorded voice echoed through the temple.

"If you are seeing this, our children have survived."

Ivy stopped breathing.

Her father's voice.

"Our greatest fear was not death."

Her mother continued.

"It was that our children would grow up believing they were alone."

Jake's eyes glistened.

"We were never alone."

Kael looked at him.

"No."

Their mother's voice continued.

"You were separated to protect you."

The image shifted.

A dark figure appeared behind their parents.

Malthor.

Then Lucian.

Then another figure.

The Shadow King.

Ivy stepped closer.

Her father's voice became urgent.

"If he finds you, remember this."

The image showed the three siblings standing together.

"Your greatest strength is not your blood."

The image shifted to Xander.

"It is what you choose to protect."

The vision disappeared.

Silence filled the temple.

Ivy looked at Xander.

He smiled.

"Grandpa knew me."

She hugged him.

"Yes, baby."

---

The Final Door

At the end of the temple stood one final door.

Unlike the others, it had no symbols.

Only one sentence:

THE FINAL KEEPER MUST CHOOSE.

Ivy stepped forward.

"What choice?"

The door opened.

Beyond it was a massive chamber.

At its center stood an ancient throne.

And sitting on it...

was a woman.

Silver hair.

Violet eyes.

Ivy stopped.

"Mom?"

The woman stood.

She wasn't a spirit this time.

She looked completely real.

She smiled.

"My daughter."

Ivy's breath caught.

Jake and Kael stared in shock.

Jayden stepped forward cautiously.

"Elira?"

The woman nodded.

"I'm alive."

Ivy couldn't move.

After twelve years of believing her mother was gone...

she was standing right there.

Then Elira's expression changed.

"There's something you must know."

Ivy finally found her voice.

"What?"

Elira looked toward Xander.

"The Shadow King isn't the true enemy."

Everyone froze.

Elira's eyes filled with fear.

"The true enemy is already inside this temple."

A low laugh echoed behind them.

Elias turned.

"No..."

The doors slammed shut.

The lights went out.

And a familiar voice whispered from the darkness:

"You finally came home."

Ivy's eyes flashed purple.

"Everyone, get behind me."

A pair of silver eyes opened in the darkness.

Then another.

And another.

They weren't alone.
