Aren stared at him for a moment before remembering to look appropriately grateful. Somehow, losing his temper just enough to break the weapon had convinced the captain that he possessed excellent restraint.
Timur handed the damaged sword back to the instructor and turned toward Marek and Dain.
"All three of you have training, whatever you choose to call it. We can skip a few of the remaining tests and discuss where you'd be most useful. There are openings in the outer patrols, but I suspect watching farmers move cattle would waste some of your experience."
Marek stepped closer, taking over before Aren could express his opinion of cattle.
"We would appreciate an assignment where that experience can be put to use. We're willing to learn the local procedures, of course."
