So far, the conversation had confirmed several things. Aren was unquestionably the group's leader, despite Marek handling most of their practical decisions. They knew Kaiser personally, understood his former position within the Council, and were aware that Ludwig had defeated four Usurpers.
More importantly, their visit had something to do with the Fanged Apostle, who apparently had not approved it. Ludwig had expected the Council to send spies eventually. He had not expected one of its members to grow impatient enough to come himself and then complain about the accommodations.
Aren's arrogance was obvious, but Ludwig knew better than to mistake it for weakness. Kaiser's warning had been clear, and anyone powerful enough to stand among the former apostles of Necros could cause considerable damage before Ludwig managed to stop him. Finding the young man irritating did not make him any less dangerous.
