Stella found Vergil lying among the ruins of what had once been one of Sparda's main avenues.
For several seconds, she simply couldn't comprehend what she was seeing. He lay on his side, one hand outstretched toward Safira, as though he had tried to reach her until the very last moment. An enormous wound had torn open his chest, leaving his clothes completely soaked in blood.
She approached slowly, one step at a time, as though walking too quickly might somehow make the scene real.
"Vergil...?" Stella called softly, expecting him to raise his head and complain about something, as he always did after a battle, grumbling about his torn clothes or how long it would take to get the smell of blood out of his hair.
But he didn't respond.
