Konoha First Elementary School
The highly anticipated first class of the new school year had finally begun in full swing.
"Class, please introduce yourselves."
Kato Ryoko, the homeroom teacher of Class One, smiled warmly as she surveyed the classroom.
Due to the expansion of the school's enrollment, the number of students admitted this year was considerably higher than in previous years. As a result, Konoha Academy had been divided into numerous classes to accommodate the growing number of children.
Naturally, those assigned to Class One were all rather talented individuals.
At Ryoko's encouragement, the first student stood up and began introducing himself.
"My name is Fujino Daikichi. I'm five years old, I love sausages and eggs, and my dream is to become an excellent ninja!"
"Very good. Next."
"My name is Aburame Shino. I like bugs, and I dislike people who don't like bugs."
"Ahaha, Shino certainly has a distinctive personality. Next."
A pink-haired girl stood up from her seat.
"My name is Haruno Sakura. I like handsome guys and excellent people, and I hate conceited idiots!"
With her rare her colour, Sakura immediately attracted the attention of several classmates as soon as she introduced herself.
The next student rose from his seat, his expression full of confidence.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I'm a ninja of the Uchiha clan. I hate Naruto, and my dream is to become a genius like my nii-san."
"Ahahaha…"
'Did he just announce Naruto as the person he hated most?'
Kato Ryoko let out an awkward laugh.
There wasn't much else she could do. Both Sasuke and Naruto were people whom an ordinary teacher like her couldn't afford to offend. Their backgrounds alone were enough to make her think twice before treating either of them carelessly.
Just as Ryoko was wondering how to proceed, another boy stood up.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto. I hate arrogant guys, I like ramen, my uncle is the Fifth Hokage, and my father was the Fourth Hokage. If anyone is foolish enough to provoke me, they'd better think twice! Believe it!"
After finishing his introduction, Naruto deliberately glanced toward Sasuke's seat.
Sasuke gritted his teeth in anger.
'That annoying Naruto!'
'Was having a Hokage-sama for an uncle really such a big deal?!'
"He's so cool! He's my Prince Charming!!!"
Sakura, who was sitting to Naruto's right, immediately cupped her chin in both hands and transformed into a complete fangirl. She squirmed excitedly in her seat like an earthworm, and even her eyes seemed to curve into the shape of flower petals.
Although Sasuke was handsome, Naruto was even better in her eyes.
Especially when he mentioned his uncle.
In the shinobi world, children generally matured earlier than those in ordinary societies. Sakura might be young, but she had already begun fantasizing about the happy future she would share with Naruto.
"Hey! Put that expression away! You're disgusting me!"
Naruto leaned backward, his face twisted into an expression of genuine disgust.
Being stared at by Sakura with that kind of expression made him feel uncomfortable all over, as though dozens of ants were crawling across his skin.
Unlike in the original story, Naruto had already received proper guidance from Mirai and understood his own identity. As a result, he had absolutely no interest in Sakura.
Ever since he began train in Electro-Magnetic Drive, Naruto had practically banished women from his mind. His only concerns were becoming stronger and taking control of his own destiny.
Sakura's flirtatious behaviour did nothing but disgust him.
"Even when he's angry, he's so handsome!"
"I told you to stay away from me! You're seriously disgusting!"
"All right, all right, Sakura. Don't disrupt the order of the class!"
Seeing the situation gradually spiral out of control, Ryoko hurriedly intervened. Her head was already beginning to ache from dealing with the infatuated girl.
After all, Naruto was the Hokage's nephew.
If Sakura managed to anger him, things could become troublesome very quickly.
It seemed that she would have to arrange for Sakura to sit somewhere farther back, well away from Naruto.
Ryoko secretly made up her mind to do just that.
…
Outside Konoha Azademy, brilliant sunlight bathed the village, while the fresh morning air carried a pleasant coolness.
"Such a beautiful time must never be wasted! I've decided! I'll train by doing thirty laps around Konoha in a handstand!"
With both palms planted firmly on the ground and his feet pointing toward the sky, Might Guy raced along the streets in a handstand. His speed was so astonishing that his arms seemed to leave afterimages behind him.
"Youth! Ah, youth!"
Just thinking about the vibrant atmosphere at Konoha Academy filled Guy with an even stronger desire to train. It felt as though a surge of scorching blood was rushing through his chest, igniting his entire being.
"I absolutely must not slack off! This is the fiery essence of youth!!"
His arms moved so quickly that they blurred into a succession of afterimages.
The villagers lining Konoha's streets stared in astonishment as a green shadow whistled past them. The powerful gust of wind stirred up clouds of dust in its wake.
Present-day Konoha had expanded considerably compared with its former size. Running around the new village thirty times in a handstand covered an even greater distance than doing sixty laps around the old Konoha.
Yet Guy showed no intention of slowing down.
On the contrary, the challenge only made him more enthusiastic.
"Even when faced with difficulties and obstacles, one must charge forward with all one's might! That is the true essence of passionate youth!"
Meanwhile, on the rooftop of a nearby building, Kakashi Hatake leaned against a water tank with one hand in his pocket. He was completely engrossed in reading Make-Out Paradise when a familiar figure caught his attention from the corner of his eye.
Looking down at the energetic man racing through the streets below, Kakashi couldn't help muttering, "He's really full of energy."
He had long since grown accustomed to Guy's habit of radiating youthful enthusiasm at practically every moment of the day.
After all, Guy had pestered him countless times to participate in competitions supposedly designed to test their passionate youth.
Unfortunately for Guy, Kakashi, who had transplanted a bionic eye and reached an entirely new level of strength, had little interest in wasting his energy on such activities.
At present, he simply wanted to finish reading his adult novel in peace.
Yesterday, during the school's opening ceremony, Tsunade had caught him red-handed while he was trying to find a quiet place to enjoy his beloved classic. The embarrassment of that incident still lingered in his mind.
He had no intention of allowing anything similar to happen again.
"Kakashi! So, you're here! Let's have a youthful and passionate competition!"
The deafening voice suddenly exploded beside his ear.
Kakashi, who had been savouring his adult novel in peace, immediately looked displeased.
How troublesome!
Had he been cursed with bad luck lately?
Why did someone always manage to find him whenever he tried to enjoy a classic in peace?
Whoosh!
Guy landed nimbly in front of him, balancing on his hands and speaking excitedly while remaining in a handstand position.
"For our eighty-seventh competition, Kakashi, what shall we compete in this time?"
"Guy, give it up. Right now, I just want to read my book quietly."
Kakashi's helpless response left Guy bewildered.
"Kakashi, what's wrong with you? Have you forgotten your youth? This isn't like you at all!"
"If I had to explain it, I'd say I'm simply no longer excited by your strength."
Kakashi's eyes remained as lifeless as ever, utterly unmoved by Guy's impassioned words.
Having transplanted a bionic eye and become Konoha's foremost Technological Ninja, Kakashi had practically entered retirement ahead of schedule. These days, his daily routine even included steeping wolfberries in his thermos.
In short, he had absolutely no desire to compete with Guy.
"Damn it! Kakashi, are you defiling my passionate youth?!"
Enraged, Guy flipped himself upright and pointed an accusing finger at Kakashi.
He could accept losing to Kakashi in a competition.
What he absolutely could not accept was being humiliated by him!
"I'm betting my passionate youth on this! Kakashi, I challenge you!"
"Guy, don't be like this. If you lose too badly, I'll feel guilty."
"Are you looking down on me?! Kakashi, the more you say things like that, the more I want to challenge you! If you don't accept, then I'll think you're a coward!"
Kakashi's dead-fish eyes twitched.
Snap!
He closed the copy of Make-Out Paradise he had been enjoying and finally straightened up.
"Guy, since you insist on challenging me, don't say I didn't warn you."
His left bionic eye began emitting a strange glow.
"The current me is no longer the me of the past."
The moment those words fell, Kakashi raised his hand like a blade and struck toward Guy's neck with a swift chopping motion.
"So fast!"
Guy's eyes widened in surprise.
However, speed alone wouldn't be enough to defeat him.
Guy pushed off the ground with his feet and used the momentum to leap backward, narrowly evading Kakashi's attack.
But Kakashi pursued him relentlessly. It was as though he had already anticipated the direction of Guy's evasive movement, because he immediately followed with another hand chop.
Guy crossed his arms in front of himself, blocked Kakashi's attack, and used the impact to create some distance between them.
"This is truly surprising, Kakashi! You actually have this much insight even without the Sharingan!"
If Kakashi had still possessed his Sharingan, Guy wouldn't have been particularly surprised by his ability to predict attacks.
But there was no Sharingan in Kakashi's left eye anymore.
Could it be that new transplanted eye?
Although Guy didn't understand what had happened to Kakashi or why he had lost his original Sharingan, he could clearly sense the new eye.
During their brief exchange, he had noticed Kakashi's left eye rotating at an extremely high speed, moving in a manner that no ordinary human eye could possibly replicate.
"Is that strange left eye giving you confidence?" Guy declared, his voice brimming with determination. "But that alone won't be enough to defeat me, Kakashi!"
A powerful surge of air erupted around him, causing his hair to stand on end.
"Gate of Opening! Open! Gate of Healing! Gate of Life..."
"Gate of Pain!"
"Open!"
Guy continued until he had opened the Fourth Gate.
Green steam rose from his body, his hair swayed in the rushing air, and a vein bulged prominently on his forehead.
His gaze burned with fiery determination.
"Kakashi, let's continue! Konoha Whirlwind!"
He leaped into the air, pivoted around his left foot, and unleashed a rapid spinning kick.
Kakashi's left eye rotated at an astonishing frequency. Upon closer inspection, the direction of its rotation perfectly matched the trajectory of Guy's attacks.
From the perspective of his bionic eye, the world appeared to have been overlaid with a layer of blue electronic data.
Every attack Guy launched was captured and analyzed by the miniature computer concealed within the bionic artificial eye. The system calculated the incoming trajectory, predicted the direction of each strike, and identified the most effective method of countering it.
Thanks to these calculations, Kakashi could evade Guy's movements with remarkable ease.
"It seems the Fourth Gate is the limit of the bionic eye's calculations."
Kakashi noticed that the flow of data was beginning to slow. At the same time, the system had started producing occasional errors, albeit with relatively low probabilities.
His heart tightened slightly.
Even so, the results were already astonishing.
With the Fourth Gate open, Guy possessed speed far beyond that of an average jōnin.
If the bionic eye could analyze and respond to attacks at this level, it meant Kakashi could gain a decisive advantage when fighting jōnin-level opponents, accurately discerning their offensive movements and responding with overwhelming precision.
That was an ability even a low-level Sharingan couldn't match.
Moreover, this was only one of the bionic eye's functions.
It possessed numerous other capabilities that the Sharingan completely lacked.
Clang!
Kakashi drew the short sword at his waist.
The moment the blade emerged, its razor-sharp edge seemed to radiate a chilling aura. The sensation made Guy's scalp tingle just as he was preparing to close the distance and attack.
He immediately halted his advance and retreated.
The short sword passed dangerously close to his hair, severing several strands.
Feeling the lingering chill across his forehead, Guy experienced a prickling sensation across his scalp.
"What is that thing?!"
The endless assortment of strange weapons and technologies had left Guy somewhat flustered.
If that sword had struck him just now, would it have shaved a layer off his skull?
'White Fang?'
'No...'
Guy had seen Kakashi's White Fang short sword before, so he knew perfectly well that the weapon in Kakashi's hand, despite its similar appearance, was definitely not the same blade.
"This is a high-frequency vibration blade," Kakashi explained softly.
Guy was startled by the unfamiliar name.
High-frequency vibration blade?
What kind of strange name was that?
He had never heard of such a weapon before!
"It seems the Fourth Gate is no longer enough."
In all their previous battles, Guy had never experienced such a one-sided push at Kakashi's hands.
He could no longer afford to hold back.
"Gate of Limit, Open!"
Guy crossed his arms over his chest as an even more powerful surge of air erupted around him. The veins on his forehead bulged more prominently, and his skin began turning red from the increased blood flow.
But even that wasn't enough.
"Still not enough! This alone isn't enough!"
"Sixth Gate, Gate of View, Open!"
As Guy roared, the green aura surrounding his body surged like a tangible entity.
The Sixth Gate, the Gate of View, was the strongest gate he could open apart from the Seventh Gate, the Gate of Wonder, and the Eighth Gate, the Gate of Death.
"Here I come, Kakashi!"
BOOM!
With the Gate of View open, Guy's speed and strength increased dramatically. The instant he launched himself forward, the ground beneath his feet exploded, sending chunks of earth and debris flying in every direction.
Yet Kakashi's expression remained unchanged.
He calmly pressed the button in the middle of his waist belt.
Guy, who was charging toward him at full speed, saw a blur.
Then Kakashi vanished from his sight.
"Where did he go?!"
Guy was momentarily stunned.
But before he could react, a chill brushed against his neck, causing his entire body to stiffen.
"Don't move, Guy. I don't want to hurt you."
The voice sounded directly beside his ear.
Guy lowered his gaze, and his pupils immediately contracted!
Without him realizing it, the sharp blade of Kakashi's short sword had already been pressed against his neck.
If he hadn't obeyed Kakashi's warning and moved just now, he might have driven his own throat straight into the blade.
Guy had absolutely no doubt about the cutting power of the high-frequency vibration blade.
It could easily slice through his throat.
"I... I lost."
Although he was deeply unwilling to admit defeat, Guy understood the situation perfectly.
He had lost.
The light in his eyes dimmed, and the green aura surrounding his body dissipated almost instantly as he returned to his normal state.
"Guy, I already warned you. The current me is no longer the me of the past."
Kakashi lowered the blade from Guy's neck, deactivated his invisible state, and reappeared behind his defeated rival.
He sheathed the short sword before casually leaning back against the wall and picking up the unfinished copy of Make-Out Paradise.
With one hand tucked into his pocket, he resumed reading with relish.
After the battle, he hadn't even broken a sweat. He looked as relaxed as though he had merely performed a few stretches.
"Damn it... Is the gap really that big?"
Guy clenched his fists in frustration.
He had lost.
Worse still, he had lost so easily.
Had the gap between him and Kakashi truly grown so enormous?
…
At the Hokage Building, Namikaze Mirai stood on the rooftop, having witnessed the entire battle.
A meaningful smile spread across his face.
…
By evening, the setting sun had stained the sky a deep, blood-red hue.
Deep in the forests of Konoha's back mountain, Guy repeatedly punched the tree standing before him.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Each punch struck with tremendous force, smashing through the trunk and sending splinters flying. Behind him lay a wide swath of fallen trees, their broken trunks scattered across the forest floor.
"Damn it! I'm actually this weak!"
Guy's face was filled with frustration and unwillingness.
He could accept losing to Kakashi.
What he couldn't accept was losing so easily.
Had his youth truly faded to such an extent?
Where had he gone wrong?
Could a few strange ninja tools really increase Kakashi's strength by such an enormous margin?
Although the Sixth Gate wasn't his absolute limit, Kakashi was clearly against whom Guy wouldn't open the Eighth Gate of Death.
Opening the Seventh Gate would certainly increase his strength considerably. However, the side effects were terrifying. At the very least, he would be left in so much pain that he wouldn't be able to move properly for several days.
Moreover, considering how thoroughly Kakashi had defeated him earlier, Guy suspected that even opening the Seventh Gate might not change the outcome.
The thought weighed heavily on his heart.
For someone who had always believed that relentless effort could overcome any obstacle, this defeat was especially difficult to accept.
Just as Guy was sinking deeper into dejection, a faint, amused voice suddenly sounded from behind him.
"Do you want to defeat Kakashi?"
"What?"
Guy froze and turned around in surprise.
The unexpected question had caught him completely off guard.
"I said, do you want to turn the tables and pin Kakashi down?"
Mirai stepped forward, a smile spreading across his face.
He knew all about the rivalry between Guy and Kakashi. After witnessing their battle, he had come to a rather interesting conclusion.
In his eyes, Guy was the perfect candidate for training in the Magnetic Field System.
An unshakable belief.
An indomitable will.
And a desire for strength that far exceeded that of ordinary people.
What a powerful and promising candidate.
Mirai looked at the frustrated man before him, his smile growing.
"Might Guy, become a Magnetic Field Powerhouse!"
