At night, everyone was already resting. Xia Lu leaned against the headboard; due to her pregnancy, she hadn't been sleeping well lately. Lying flat made her chest tight, and sleeping on her side hurt her shoulder, so she had no choice but to sit half-laying, trying to brew some drowsiness. But sleepiness was still reluctant to come.
Suddenly, there were chaotic footsteps in the corridor, like someone running in slippers. The walls and doors of the house were fairly soundproof, so she could only vaguely hear a bit, not enough to disturb sleep.
But these footsteps grew louder and were soon accompanied by voices. Xia Lu sat up and walked to the door, gently unlocking it.
She poked her head out to look. The lights in the corridor were on, but she didn't see anyone. She went out, leaned on the railing, and looked down, seeing Shao Meiru hurrying by with a cup of water.
