February 10th, in the afternoon ,Irie and Sawada sat in their chairs, each busy with their own tasks, There were no updates about the injured, nor any news of additional survivors, Still no news about Kuina or Shozo, The wounded remained unconscious—exhausted, traumatized, and in pain , Irie was reading through reports, while Sawada continued working on repairing the Mother Device, Irie eventually stopped reading and placed the device from which he'd been receiving the reports onto the table, He turned toward Sawada but didn't speak, waiting patiently for him to signal that it was okay to talk, On the other side, Sawada held two tools, focused entirely on the delicate process of fixing the device, His eyes didn't blink, and his lips were pressed tightly together as he tried to connect a few of the wires—like someone attempting to break a curse, He was so immersed in his work, he didn't notice Irie or anything around him, He remained like that until the alarm on his watch rang, pulling him back into the world, He stood up, placed everything neatly into his designated bag , picked up the device, and was about to leave when Irie stopped him and asked: Where are you taking it?
Sawada answered him without looking at him: and do you think it would be safe here? I will take it somewhere safe and far from here, don't worry I won't put it in my house, I know where to hide it, so if you excuse me and move please I need to visit my daughter
Irie stepped aside as Sawada walked toward his daughter, Mizuho, in the residential section, Mizuho hadn't stopped talking the whole way, but as soon as they arrived home, Sawada told her to pack her bags, She was confused at first—until he told her that she would be living in the residential section from now on, because staying with him would put her in danger, The moment she heard those words, she burst into tears and clung to him tightly, He held her even tighter, Despite all his efforts to convince her, she refused to accept being separated from him, But eventually, she began packing, He stayed with her the whole time, fearing something might happen to her, He even helped her pack, Tears streamed down her cheeks as she quietly folded her clothes, Gently, with the back of his left hand, Sawada wiped her tears away in silence
They returned to the headquarters, and Sawada decided to leave Mizuho in the care of both Kirie and Asagiri, sharing the same room, He instructed someone to bring in two mattresses to place on the floor and then leaned in to whisper in Kirie's ear that she and Asagiri must always keep Yanai and Yasuji with them, along with Mizuho, The three children were to sleep in the same room with her or Asagiri and remain with them at all times, Kirie nodded in understanding, and once the two mattresses arrived, a loud argument broke out over who would sleep on the beds, The fight was between Mizuho and Yasuji, who insisted that he and the "two lovely young ladies" should get the beds, while Mizuho and Yanai should sleep on the floor, Mizuho screamed in protest, and the two began fighting loudly, To calm the situation, the two older girls decided they would both sleep on the floor instead, Yasuji pouted but nodded reluctantly, then stared at Mizuho, who crossed her arms and sat sulkily on the bed she had chosen, Trying to shift the mood, Kirie stood and told the children a few rules things like cleaning up after themselves and keeping things tidy
Sawada entered his office and sat down in his chair just as Irie was stepping out of the bathroom, Irie took his seat as well, and it was clear he had something on his mind, Sensing this, Sawada gestured for him to speak, Irie took a deep breath before he finally spoke, his voice uncertain, as if unsure how to phrase what he wanted to say—but he had to get it out: Shouldn't someone talk to Issei and Tsurugi about what they're doing? This isn't some sort of competition to see who can torture the monsters the most or extract the most information from them
Sawada raised one eyebrow then let out a simpel short sarcastic laugh but answered him calmly while a sarcastic expression still on his face: Do you want to die Ire? Do you think someone would dare to speak to them?
Irie yelled at him: but they might listen to you
Sawada laughed again, shaking his head from side to side, He then raised his head to look at Irie, but didn't say a word at first, Instead, he stood from his seat and began to walk slowly across the room, eventually stopping in front of a wall-mounted board, He kept nodding silently for a moment before finally turning to Irie and speaking in a calm, low voice: And do you really think they'd even listen to me? I'd rather deal with Kokichi… even Nami, But dealing with Issei and Tsurugi is something else entirely, Even dealing with Kohaku is different
Sawada sighed and added: dealing with them is harder than dealing with Nami who is always mad or Kokichi's tantrums, I'll not commit suicidal acts
Irie asked a question without realizing it: do you fear them?
Sawada shook his head calmly and without thinking he answered him: No, not really, It's not fear, I just don't prefer to deal with them, it's ju—-
Irie cut him: you don't want to do this cause you want them to do what they are doing
Sawada returned to his seat and whispered: Not exactly… I just don't want to interfere with their affairs right now, I want to finish the challenge I'm dealing with at the moment, So forgive me, Irie, but I won't be doing what you asked of me
The day was unusually quiet, There was no new information about any possible survivors from the wreckage, but some bodies had been found, The headquarters had grown eerily silent—too silent, Both Irie and Sawada felt as if even the monsters had decided to go quiet for now, Irie had started checking the residential section every two to three hours, especially keeping an eye on Kirie, Asagiri, and the three children, He inspected the area for any needs or necessary adjustments, He found that he didn't want to rest—he needed to stay busy, to keep working, The noise inside him was louder than the world outside, and it unsettled him, He began teaching the five how to use the room lock: Alright, all you have to do is press this button every six hours if you want to lock the door, To enter, you'll need to type in the password, The room will be automatically protected once the Mother Device is fully repaired, but for now, you'll have to activate the security with the button I just showed you
Irie felt that they were lost so he explained in a more simple way: The permanent security system hasn't been repaired yet, so for now, to activate the protection, press this button every six hours
Kirie nodded her head after she understood, Irie left so she went and turned on the security, so she turned around while her lips were shaking same for her body, they all realized she was nervous, she sat on her mattress on the floor, Asagiri already sitting on her mattress while she is shaking and looking at her legs, Kirie realized she needed to do something— about this thick air, She stood up determined that she is not going to show her weakness and she is going to try and calm them down, she turned to them and said determined: I will go and buy some snacks and board games and maybe other stuff, don't go out this room whatever happens, bathroom? In the room, water? In the small fridge in the corner, don't play with the water, I will be fast, I promise
She left without giving the others time to think, Asagiri sighed and turned to the kids, she doesn't know how to take care of children—- she never did, Suddenly Mizuho started to ask Asagiri so many questions, she was asking Asagiri nonstop and Asagiri answered her in very short and simple answers and this seems doesn't make Mizuho happy at all, both Yanai and Yasuji were watching this with wide amazed eyes, Asagiri started to get more nervous because she doesn't know how to deal with them, Mizuho stopped because she got bored and muttered in a low voice: boring
Asagiri tried to be calm so she gave her her back, suddenly Mizuho asked: the great Mizuho ask you you boring girl what is your relationship with sister Kuina and Kirie?
Asagiri's mind suddenly went blank, All she could hear inside her skull was a faint ringing, Everything felt empty now—until her awareness returned when Mizuho called out to her, She took a deep breath and bit her lip slightly, then stopped when she realized the children's eyes were on her, Turning toward them, she crossed her arms and addressed them with serious eyes and a cold voice: That's inappropriate, young lady, Asking so many questions to someone you just met today isn't acceptable, So no more questions
She tried to return to being the serious and cold Asagiri, which this made Mizuho zip her lips, Asagiri relaxed and then said again: questions wouldn't help, if you want to know someone you should let them trust you
And she continued speaking to Mizuho as if addressing an adult, all while asking herself in her head what exactly she was doing, When everyone fell silent, Yanai spoke up, asking if Kirie was okay since she was taking so long, He was clearly trying to lighten the mood the tension the two girls had created, Mizuho nodded, confirming that Kiri was indeed late, Yasuji began to tremble, tears gathering in his eyes. Asagiri grew anxious, not sure of how to calm him down, Yanai started hugging Yasuji and trying his best to calm him down, suddenly they heard someone trying to get into the room, but it sounded like they were struggling with the door, The four of them backed to the back of the room, eyes wide and filled with fear, their bodies shaking, But when they heard Kirie's voice calling out to them, everyone relaxed, Asagiri went to open the door, It turned out that if the room's protection had been activated, even someone who knew the password couldn't enter the room, the system required someone inside to manually open the door for the person outside
In the meantime both Irie and Sawada were checking everything in their office and they locked the door, Each one of them started going his own way, but in the middle of the walk they both got an emergency message so they both returned to the headquarters, when they both entered someone pulled them into Kokichi office and spoke: I know this is crazy but, we search everywhere they might be and we couldn't find a–
He stopped speaking then took a deep breath and continued: Their bodies under the rubbles
He stopped again, fear tightening his throat, hesitant to continue, Just as Kokichi was about to snap at him in frustration, he blurted out like lightning: There's something wrong, as if something helped to pull them away… or got them out… saved them, That's what I've been trying to say, There's nothing… nothing at all that shows they were under the rubbles, Nothing to even say they were there at the time of the explosion
Kokichi took a deep breath and threw himself on his chair and spoke in a low voice: Shozo and Kuina have survived , they both did if it's true , but we don't know where are they or even who saved them , what's going on in this place!
In the meantime Issei was checking on the patients when he stopped suddenly and turned around—looking at Masahito's left hand, he walked to him and leaned a little and his eyes widened when he spotted a simple move in Masahito's left hand, Issei took a long breath, then began whispering softly to Masahito, Masahito's left fingers twitched slightly in response, Unconsciously, a faint smile crept onto Issei's face, Without wasting a second, he left the room to deliver the news to Sawada and Irie
