The atmosphere inside Kuina's Marine-assigned residence was light and filled with warmth, the golden glow of lanterns casting gentle shadows along the wooden walls.
A faint melody played from a den den mushi radio tucked into the corner, its soft rhythm providing a gentle backdrop to the laughter and conversations echoing through the room.
It was a rare evening of peace.
A birthday celebration, yes, but more than that, it was a gathering of those who stood closest to Luffy.
Zoro sat beside Luffy on the far side of the room, both men half-lounging in their chairs, drinks in hand, like predators watching the forest flicker just before the hunt.
"Issho's left," Zoro remarked after a moment, swirling his sake. "Didn't stay long."
Luffy nodded, eyes lazily scanning the room. "He's not the party type. Not ours, anyway."
Zoro smirked. "Still... I liked crossing swords with him. Feels like it's been forever since anything satisfying happened."
There was a pause.
"This place is starting to itch," Zoro muttered softly. "We've been stuck in port for months now. Marines whispering, nothing real happening. You planning to do something soon, or are we just going to sit here sipping wine like admirals?"
Luffy didn't respond immediately. He sipped his own drink and let the silence stretch.
His eyes wandered across the room.
Kuina was chatting with Ain and Hina by the low table, laughing softly. Gion stood near the counter, refilling everyone's drinks with practiced ease. And Kujaku, newest among them, stood at the edge of the group, smiling gently, still learning her place in this private world.
Each one of them had trained relentlessly under his eye, in his Time Chamber—molded not just into warriors, but into weapons. They all were trusted, loyal, and untouchable by the standards of the Marines, whom they once called comrades.
He recognized the restlessness in Zoro's voice.
It mirrored the ache growing in his own bones.
Luffy downed the last of his drink, then rose to his feet, stretching slowly as he set the glass aside. The motion was casual, unhurried, yet it captured every gaze in the room.
Then came the sound... two sharp claps.
Clap! Clap!
A silence fell like a curtain.
Everyone turned their heads to look at him..
Kuina raised an eyebrow. "Captain?"
Luffy met their eyes one by one.
Zoro... Kuina... Ain... Hina... Gion... Kujaku...
He didn't speak immediately. His gaze drifted toward the window, where the moonlight slipped across the edge of the floor, pale and cold. After a breath, he began.
"It's been two years," He said, voice calm but edged with something deeper. "Two years of boredom... two years of holding ourselves back... two years of only training and honing our skills."
He paced slowly, the sound of his boots soft on the polished floor. "But the world doesn't wait forever. And I can feel it... the itch. The stillness is getting to me. This... calm... It's too quiet for me."
Zoro leaned forward slightly, that familiar grin already forming. "So you're finally done lounging?"
Luffy stopped pacing. He turned back toward them, a slow smile spreading across his lips. "I've decided. It's time."
"Time for what?" Hina asked, voice smooth and measured, but her fingers were already tightening around the rim of her glass.
Luffy's eyes gleamed. "A little visit to one of the Emperors."
The words hit the room like thunder.
Even the music from the radio seemed to fade in the silence that followed.
Ain straightened in her seat, her cool demeanor faltering just enough to reveal a spark of excitement. "You're serious."
Luffy nodded. "One of them... And I have already decided which one. I want to experience their terrifying strength and defeat them."
Zoro exhaled in amusement. "About damn time."
Kuina chuckled, folding her arms. "And here I thought this party was going to be the most exciting thing this month."
Kujaku, ever more composed since joining them, felt her heartbeat quicken. She had seen this look in Luffy before, during training, during his fights, during those rare moments when he unveiled even a fraction of his ambition.
This wasn't bluster.
This was him deciding something big.
She lowered her gaze for a moment, fingers curling against her skirt.
It hadn't always been like this...
Two months ago, Kujaku wouldn't have imagined herself in this room.
Wouldn't have imagined herself standing quietly in the background, content just to be present. Wouldn't have imagined herself... as his.
[Flashback]
It began with suspicion.
She had been introduced to Luffy's circle through Gion, who had actually wanted to introduce her to the most famous personality in Marineford, all because she was Tsuru's granddaughter and someone with great potential.
Kujaku had scoffed internally. Luffy was just a Vice Admiral like her grandmother. Even though Luffy was young and strong but she also had ambition, pride, and honor.
She didn't need to 'prove' herself to some boy, no matter how much power he supposedly held.
But Gion had insisted. "Spend some time with us. See for yourself."
And so she had.
What she saw disturbed her.
Kuina, the proud and strong sword prodigy, seemed softer around Luffy.
Hina, the icy and independent woman, would always find herself around Luffy, asking for his advice.
Even Ain, an unshakably logical woman, would flush and fidget under his gaze.
It didn't make any sense... until it did to her.
The first time Luffy spoke to her directly, there was nothing special in his words. Just a question about her skills and her Devil Fruit.
But the way he looked at her, like he already owned the answers, sent a chill down her spine.
She trained harder, tried to prove herself. She had fought against both Kuina and Ain but lost miserably.
And then... she trained alone, until Luffy came to her.
"You don't have to fight them," He said quietly. "You just have to accept it."
"Accept what?" She had demanded.
He didn't answer. He only touched her chin, tilted it upward, and said, "That you were always meant to kneel."
She had slapped his hand away.
He hadn't gotten angry but just simply smiled.
The next day, Gion found her shaking in the showers. Not from fear, but from confusion.
"I don't understand what's happening to me," She whispered.
Gion had only smiled. "That's how it begins."
After that, night after night, her dreams were filled with him, his voice, his touch, even his gaze... it made her restless.
And eventually, she stopped fighting and went to him for answers.
Luffy answered all her doubts, but in return, he broke her, gently, completely.
When she woke in his bed the next morning, the only thing she felt was peace.
The proud Marine was gone.
All that remained was Luffy's version of Kujaku.
[Flashback Ends]
Kujaku blinked herself back to the moment, the fire of that memory simmering in her chest.
Now, as she looked at him standing there, commanding, she felt nothing but the certainty of her choice.
"We'll follow you," Kujaku said softly, her voice barely audible above the low hum of the room.
Luffy turned his gaze to her. There was no mocking or smugness in his body language, only approval.
Zoro stood, stretching with a satisfying crack of his neck. "So what's the plan, then? We sail in like ghosts or go loud?"
"Oh, you will see," Luffy replied. "You know my style, Zoro... It's going to be so much fun."
