Lydia managed to walk back to her room.
Every step felt heavier than the last.
She kept her face cold as she moved through the corridor, refusing to let anyone see how badly she was falling apart inside.
She could still hear Tatiana's words in her head.
He'll do it again.
He would abandon you and your child.
Lydia clenched her hands.
She didn't want to believe it, but the words kept returning.
When she finally reached her room, she opened the door and stepped inside, quickly closing it behind her.
For a few seconds, she simply stood there, staring at the closed door.
Her lips trembled as she tried to breathe and hold herself together. She had managed to keep her head high in front of Tatiana, speak without crying, and walk away as though nothing had happened.
But now there was no one watching her.
She was alone.
And she couldn't do it anymore.
