Yan closed his eyes. He used his hearing to keep track of everything outside for a moment before limiting that as well. He needed to concentrate.
Simply telling Lahso and Taub to hold out wouldn't be enough. He needed more.
Yan looked deep inside himself. He had tried to do it before, without much success, when he had first been curious about the source of his peculiar skills.
But now, he didn't want to know the source. He didn't want to know why he was special. He didn't care about that. It didn't matter where his strength came from. All he wanted was to draw out more of it.
So, he peered deep inside himself.
At the center of his gut, he found a hole. It was smaller than the tip of a strand of hair. It was no wonder he hadn't found it before.
But that hole in his vessel was the source of his strength. Through that hole, the power that gave him the ability to command others entered his body.
Strangely enough, it didn't feel foreign.
