Chapter 643 - Chapter 653: Three-Way Struggle

Yes, while waiting for Joe to send Zidan and Maggie to his estate, the chubby guy had already sent all the evidence Jarvis had organized in advance on Tapia's smuggling and drug trafficking operations. The evidence revealed that Tapia was using the bodies in his funeral home—specifically those with their organs removed—to transport his drug profits back to Cuba. All this evidence was sent directly to the hilariously volatile Captain Howard from Bad Boys.

Now, it's likely that the hot-tempered captain is rallying his two explosive-prone black detectives to begin investigating Tapia.

However, one thing should be noted: Captain Howard's drug task force is only investigating Tapia's smuggling and drug trafficking. Joe's team, on the other hand, is looking into Tapia's cooperation with terrorists. This dual-pronged effort benefits both the Miami Police Department and the FBI.

Cassel felt a strong sense of accomplishment. His scheming not only assisted Miami law enforcement but also helped Joe establish a firm footing in the New York Division of the FBI.

Upon receiving the intel, Maggie and Zidan rushed back to the joint command center at 26 Federal Plaza in New York and relayed the information to Joe. Joe had known that Cassel had prepared this intelligence for him, so after receiving Maggie and Zidan's report, he immediately sent them to Miami. He wanted to ensure they could arrest the drug lord Tapia for endangering national security before Miami's police made their move.

However, Joe didn't anticipate that while he was dispatching his top agents, Maggie and Zidan, to Miami, Captain Howard of the Miami PD's narcotics task force was reading an anonymous email in his office.

The email laid out, in great detail, that a Cuban drug lord named Johnny Tapia had been stealthily transporting hallucinogens from Cuba to Miami on high-speed boats equipped with multiple engines. The email provided an outline of Tapia's entire operation and even included partial evidence. It revealed that Tapia used corpses to smuggle drug money, identified one of Tapia's distributors as a Russian named Alex, and contained astonishingly specific information.

The email even mentioned that Tapia's beachside mansion in Miami had an attic piled high with cash. Captain Howard was ecstatic at this lead and immediately summoned his best agents, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, to launch a full investigation into Tapia.

Once again, Detective Mike, the playboy cop, and Marcus, who was in the throes of a midlife crisis, infiltrated Tapia's mansion under the guise of exterminators, reminiscent of a scene from a movie Cassel had once seen. Sure enough, the email's claims of cash-filled attics turned out to be accurate. After some careful reconnaissance, the Miami Police Department confirmed that Tapia was indeed a deeply hidden drug lord.

For now, though, the Miami police weren't planning to close in on him. They wanted to catch Tapia red-handed with drugs in his possession to ensure a more airtight case.

But just as Captain Howard was relishing the opportunity to bust a major case, two unexpected groups arrived in Miami.

The first group, led by FBI agents Maggie and Zidan, planned to arrest Johnny Tapia on charges of aiding terrorists and endangering national security. The second group was from the DEA, including Marcus's own sister, Sydney. They intended to approach Tapia under the guise of New York-based money-laundering experts, aiming to gather more evidence of his drug trafficking.

None of the three parties knew that they were all converging on Johnny Tapia for the same reason. Only Cassel and his chubby friend, who had been keeping an eye on the situation, understood that the real show was about to begin.

Recently, Johnny Tapia had been riding high. Although he sometimes worried about his chubby daughter's intelligence, his drug smuggling operations were booming. His cautious and creative approach to smuggling had allowed him to avoid detection by the Coast Guard on many occasions.

Adding to his success, he'd recruited secondary distributors in Miami, like the Russian Alex, and business was thriving.

Feeling invincible, Tapia was approached by his old acquaintance, arms dealer Amir Bakawi, a few days ago. Bakawi asked Tapia to use his smuggling channels to help him escape to Cuba. Without a second thought, Tapia agreed.

After all, Bakawi was still a powerful arms dealer, and Tapia's drug empire could only benefit from the support of someone with Bakawi's influence.

Tapia had heard rumors that Bakawi's business had clashed with a few American arms companies, resulting in those companies enlisting the help of the U.S. military to almost bomb Bakawi and his family into oblivion. But Tapia wasn't concerned.

This indifference was a common flaw among drug lords like him—they were often oblivious to larger dangers. Unaware of Bakawi's current status as a top target on America's terrorist watchlist, Tapia had unwittingly aided a criminal wanted by every intelligence and law enforcement agency in the country.

In New York, Cassel was thrilled as he watched the three parties close in on Johnny Tapia, who was still blissfully ignorant of the storm about to hit him. The satisfaction of using Jarvis to gather intelligence and then sit back as a bystander was unparalleled.

Cassel couldn't help but wonder if Harold Finch had already developed his "Samaritan" program. According to Jarvis's research, Finch—the billionaire Cassel had once seen in Person of Interest—had indeed stayed out of the public eye for a long time. Perhaps Finch was refining his crime-predicting software.

Would Finch's program, with a little push from Jarvis, eventually evolve into a true AI?

Well, that was a matter for another time. For now, it was all about enjoying the show.

Back at Marcus's home, he and Mike had just returned from the station. Marcus was hosting a welcome dinner for his sister Sydney, who had recently arrived in Miami. None of the guests were aware that Sydney, who was all smiles, was actually a DEA agent. She was in Miami to investigate Johnny Tapia, whose mansion Mike and Marcus had just scouted.

Marcus had also recently learned that his longtime partner, Mike, had struck up a relationship with his sister Sydney during a recent trip to New York. Enraged, he began chastising his troublemaking sister.
