"What... are you saying?" Azriel's mouth hung half open, shock plain across his face at what she had just told him.
Give up her own life? Did that mean killing herself? Or allowing Azriel to kill her? The Goddess of Death? How did that even function, to begin with?
Could she even die?
No.
Azriel shook his head.
'I... do not want that...'
Quietly, he looked at her, saying nothing further.
Her face melted with relief in response, as Azriel seemed to have calmed slightly.
Then her expression darkened, visibly troubled, and she spoke again, her voice dropping much lower than before.
"It is true. What that spirit said. Pollux. And what you already suspected as well..."
Azriel's eyes widened further still, though he kept quiet, lacking the energy or the will to force out words that would only hurt his throat further. He was not even certain anymore whether he was still crying.
"From the very beginning, we created [Redo], not as a blessing, but as a curse meant to imprison you."
