Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Demon and The Whelp

There was crumbled up paper and newspapers all over the floor. Old booze bottles on the ground, emptied out and just lying on the floor. Spider webs could be seen on the ceiling fan, the corners of the walls, and under the desk. Scattered dishes could be seen on a desk, and lying on top of it was a four and a half tall black crow. Wearing a brown detective hat, and a brown jacket. His eyes clothes, beak lying sideways against the desk, and just sleeping the day off.

"Dad! Dad! Wake up!"

Crow's groan could be heard as he sighed wearily. He had such a heavy headache right now, and this runt wasn't making it any better. His dimmed yellow blank eyes slowly opened from that damn dragon calling out his name. Groaning more before sitting up and placing his two wings against his face. Breathing heavily yet again before placing his wings down. His eyes refocusing on the small floating figure in front of him. A small 2 foot dragon was just there, black scales, red eyes, and an odd metal gate contraption that floated right behind him. The metal piece of floating object had an odd design with red glowing lights.

"What is it this time Zod? Also what the hell are you wearing?"

The black demonic bird eyed Zod in a confused manner, he was wearing a mask, an apron, carrying a broom in his right hand, and a dustpan in his left hand.

"I was cleaning the place! I wanted to do something for you since you haven't really taken care of yourself lately. It's the least I can do to help you out."

"How... old did you say you were again, runt?"

"9! I'm almost old enough to drive now!"

Crow shook his head slowly. It'd be 9 more years before this idiot could even drive a damn car. Not that the kid needed one. He had wings for gods sake. Crow could be seen sluggishly getting off of his chair. He couldn't let the kid push himself too hard. Why did he have to adopt the kid all of the sudden? If his own stepfather was here he'd be rolling in his grave from the state he was currently in. Drinking and using drugs to just make himself feel less shitty about himself.

It's only been a week, and he could feel the backlash from not drinking and doing drugs already. All because he didn't want to snap in front of the kid when he was feeling high as per usual. Ever since he brought this runt into his life he felt like he had to straighten himself out less he regretted it for his entire life. There was no way in hell he'd let his pride allow this child to clean up after the mess he made.

"Hold up, kid. Let me help out alright?"

Looking around he saw the huge mess of random crap he had. It was a bit chilly especially with the worn down, and broken windows. Seriously what a mess he was. If he didn't fix his act now he wouldn't be able to look after this runt he decided to take him because Zod reminded him of himself when he was younger. Scratching the back of his head with his right wing he simply shook his head before picking up the paper on the ground.

Zod could be seen humming a playful tune. Picking up the trash on the ground, and letting his dad take care of the empty beer bottles.

"What song is that you're humming?"

"Oh! It's from my favorite show! Guardians!"

"I'm pretty sure that's too violent for your age, runt. Eh! I suppose it should be fine. Just don't try to pull the silly stuff they do in those shows alright? You're no hero and I don't want you acting like one."

"Aren't you a hero dad?"

"Pft, no of course not. You do realize I'm a demon right? Being a hero isn't exactly our forte you know? Besides what I do is just a job. Being a detective for hire isn't as bright of a job you think it is, but the commissions I do pay well enough for me to stay here at least."

The sounds of crumbled paper could be heard being placed into the garbage bag as Zod put the full bags of garbage outside for the time being. Coughing a bit from the dust that was collected from the shelves.

"Hey, just let me handle that. I don't want you getting sick alright?"

"O-Okay, dad."

The small black dragon continued to float around, clearing his throat a few times, and proceeded to sweep the floor. Once he and his father were finished cleaning most of the mess it wasn't that long after till they mopped the area too. Getting rid of the webs that were all over the ceiling fans, and the walls. It took almost an entire day to clean out the small home that Crow owned, but with Zod's help they managed to do it. Zod could be seeing doing a victory spin while he was floating in the air.

"Yay! We did it!"

"Sheesh kid... A bit over joyous yeah?"

Crow stretched out his body, the phone within his jacket pocket began vibrating violently. Talk about terrible timing! It was a Saturday, and he couldn't imagine anyone calling him this late in the day either. Grabbing it before pulling it out he recognize the number. Closing his eyes in frustration, sighing in a tired manner before he read the message.

"Who is it from, dad?"

"Hmm.... It's from Stag. That idiot got himself into another annoying commission."

"Uncle Stag is in trouble?"

"Knowing that fool he should be fine. He'll just punch his way out of the situation if need be. I'm more worried about his employer though. Since he texted me he's likely worried about the client's safety. I don't like the idea of leaving you here alone kid so come along."

"Kay, and keep my head down I know."

"Good! Looks like you're taking my lessons pretty well."

Crow smiled, and patted Zod on his head. Seeing the kid smile had always warmed his heart. The two of them eventually left inside what seemed to be a floating ship vehicle. Seemed like the technology of this world was rather advance. A low hum could be heard before the ship turned on. Slowly gravitating upwards before it flew up to the skies with the rest of the flying cars. Zooming pass the building that they were previously were in, and headed towards their destination.

"Wonder what trouble that straightforward fool got himself into this time."

"Heheh, can't be anymore than you usually do dad!"

"Hey! At least... Nah you're right. Trouble always seems to follow me."
