Chapter 6 - Meeting the King

Ki paced the floor of their cell, restless. Zephyr lay on the bed, observing him with amusement. Day after day, Ki's thoughts lingered on Septh, while Zephyr entertained himself by watching Ki fume quietly.

A week passed before the same lady who had dragged Septh away appeared at their cell.

"So, which one of you is Ki and which is Zephyr?" she asked, her gaze sharp.

Ki stared at her coldly, unwelcoming. Zephyr, unfazed, grinned. "I'm Zephyr, and this is Ki. Don't mind him... he looks unfriendly, but he's fun once you get to know him. By the way… do you have a boyfriend?"

The lady's smile was tight, her patience thinning. She turned her attention to Ki. "Father wishes to see you both," she said. She gestured to the guards, and the cell doors opened. "Follow me."

Zephyr leapt up eagerly, following without hesitation. Ki rose cautiously, keeping a careful eye on their surroundings. They were led down a long hallway into a room where several maids waited. Zephyr's eyes lit up at the sight of so many attendants.

"You will meet the king," the lady explained. "You need to be prepared."

The maids bathed and dressed them. Ki wore a tailored navy tunic with subtle silver embroidery, matching trousers, and a dark cloak over his shoulders. Polished boots completed the ensemble. Zephyr's tunic was royal blue with gold trim, complemented by trousers with decorative stitching and a light grey cloak. His polished boots and flashy belt reflected his lively personality.

When they were ready, the lady led them into a candle-lit room. Septh stood there in a green dress, a faint smile on her face. Zephyr dashed forward.

"Septh! I was so worried! Being stuck with Ki is boring," he exclaimed, hugging her tightly.

Septh gently pushed him back. "Long time no see," she said softly. Ki hesitated, unsure whether to join the embrace. Septh caught his gaze, and he blushed slightly before stepping to the window, peeking outside. The city glowed under torchlight, the night sky clear and beautiful.

The king entered, and everyone took their seats. Ki immediately recognized him as the man who had knocked him unconscious. Sophie, the lady from before, sat beside him. A maid stood nearby to assist if needed.

The king spoke directly. "I am Richard de Vere, and this is my daughter, Sophie de Vere."

Zephyr nodded eagerly, glad to know her name.

"Before we proceed," the king continued, "I apologize for how you were treated... and Ki, I also apologize for not fighting fairly during our mock battle."

Ki inclined his head. "It's fine. Please continue."

The king's expression grew serious. "Now, let's get to the point."
