Chapter 9 - The test of Strength

The next day, Septh wakes up to a knock on the door. When she opens it, a maid informs her of another meeting arranged by the king. Septh, unsure of how to wear the local clothing, shyly asks the maid for help, who assists her in getting dressed. As she enters the room from the previous night, she notices a difference—the room is filled with sunlight instead of candlelight. Inside, she finds Ki and Zephyr. Ki is wearing the same outfit as when they arrived from the other world—a hoodie and jogger pants. Zephyr, confident in the attire they gave him, greets them cheerfully.

"Good morning, guys," Septh greeted the two.

"Morning," Zephyr answered with his usual cheerful energy.

Septh notices Ki's attire and addresses it. "Why are you still using your old clothes?"

Zephyr agrees with Septh. "She's right. The clothes here are elegant. They make me feel confident and rich."

Ki answers, "Well, it's uncomfortable for me. It slows my movement down."

Septh and Zephyr look at each other and laugh. Their conversation is interrupted by the entrance of the king, Sophie, and three others. The king settles them down and announces that they are here to discuss Ki, Zephyr, and Septh. He then introduces them to each other.

"I'm Zephyr Nguyen, 17 years old," Zephyr introduces himself first, "and I like sports."

Septh follows, "I'm Septh Garcia, 16 years old, and I like reading books."

Ki introduces himself simply, "I'm Ki Tanaka."

"I'm Kenji. 21 years old," a young man introduces himself in Ki's language. He has long hair tied back with loose bangs up front. Zephyr notices his handsome appearance and questions his relationship with Sophie. When Zephyr glances at Sophie, she smiles and stares back at him. Embarrassed, Zephyr looks away. Ki notices something different—Kenji is dressed in modern clothes.

"Are you...?" Ki begins to question, but Kenji cuts him off, confirming that he is a summon. He stares directly into Ki's eyes, giving Ki a sense of being looked down upon.

Another man introduces himself as Clayman Griffin. He is clad in heavy shining armor and introduces himself as the general and right hand of the king, sporting a scar that crosses his face.

Hannah speaks up, stating that she has already introduced herself, so there is no need for further introductions.

"These are my important personnel," the king says. "They will look after you starting tomorrow to ensure your growth. But today, I want to test your strength."

The king leads them out to the garden, where they are given wooden swords for the test. Zephyr swings his sword confidently, commenting that he could get used to this. He then notices Ki's expert swordsmanship and asks when he took sword training. Ki responds, "Since now." Zephyr is surprised and smiles forcefully, saying, "Since now my ass. Give him a dagger, and I will use a sword, and he will still win."

The king signals for them to take their positions, and the duel begins. Zephyr charges, but Ki remains still. As Zephyr nears, Ki swings his sword vertically. Anticipating this, Zephyr uses his reflexes honed through various sports to swing his sword horizontally, colliding with Ki's sword. The impact sends Ki's arm and sword flying. Zephyr manages to control the force midair and swings his sword sideways at Ki. Ki dodges by ducking down, spreading his legs out for support. He then uses his arm as support to rotate and kicks Zephyr's leg, causing him to lose his balance and fall. Ki's sword is now at Zephyr's face, indicating Ki's victory.

Round two begins, with Ki throwing his sword at Zephyr. The tip heads straight for Zephyr's face. Zephyr blocks it with his sword as a shield but realizes Ki is not where he expected. As he looks around in panic, he sees Ki below him. Ki throws an uppercut punch, hitting Zephyr and ending the battle.

It's time to choose who will look after whom. Hannah chooses Septh, and Clayman chooses Zephyr. As Clayman approaches Zephyr, Kenji asks, "Why him? Ki clearly won the battle." Clayman explains that on the battlefield, your sword is your only friend that will save you, and Ki just threw it to his enemy. Kenji whispers, "Well, your choice," as he approaches Ki and says, "Well, it's me and you now, kid."

After a while, Kenji enters the king's room, where the king is waiting. He orders Kenji, "Watch him carefully. Don't let him slip from you. He is too conscious."
