The chill of the lower realm bit at their skin as Haze, Elena, and Adam stepped out of the Bonejaw Shack, the chaotic energy of the tavern fading behind them. Haze rubbed the back of his neck, trying to release the tension built up from the confrontation inside, but Adam didn't give him a moment's peace.
"You really know how to get us chased out of a place," Adam grumbled, scowling as he adjusted the straps of his gear. "Seriously, all of this? This is your fault, Haze. You're the reason we had to run for our lives."
Haze blinked at him in disbelief, throwing his arms up. "My fault? Are you kidding me? I didn't do anything! I didn't touch anyone, I didn't provoke anyone. I just… existed! How does that make it my fault?"
Adam shot him a withering glare, lips pressed into a thin line, and muttered something about "reckless instincts" under his breath.
