The next morning, I woke up with sore legs. My muscles ached, and I felt like I had wrestled a tiger. I stretched my arms and yawned.
"Ow," I said, rubbing my legs. "The jungle run was no joke."
But when I saw the medal on my wall, I smiled. The pain didn't matter. That shiny gold medal reminded me that I was strong and brave. I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. Mom was making pancakes, and the smell made my stomach growl.
"Good morning, champ!" Dad said, giving me a high five.
"Morning!" I grinned and sat down at the table. "I'm starving!"
"You deserve a big breakfast," Mom said. "You ran through a jungle!"
I poured syrup all over my pancakes and started eating. "It was the hardest thing I've ever done," I told them. "There were thorns and mud, and I had to jump on rocks in the river."
