Donghua Temple was the most famous temple near the Capital City; it was said that the Buddha within Donghua Temple answered all prayers sincerely, and his powers were highly efficacious. Even the Noble Consort would visit from the palace each year to pray for blessings. Therefore, the incense at Donghua Temple was forever prosperous, regardless of the season.
Fu Zhiwen and Mother Mo had set out after breakfast, and it wasn't until noon that they arrived at the foot of Donghua Temple.
The path leading up to the temple consisted of stairs; horses and carriages couldn't make the climb. Fu Zhiwen helped Mother Mo out of the carriage, wanting to call for a sedan chair to carry her, but Mother Mo declined.
"I am here to pray for the Buddha's blessing for Jingwen and her child. It's only by walking up that I can demonstrate my true devotion," Mother Mo said with utmost sincerity.
Fu Zhiwen felt ashamed, "You're right, Aunt Mo. Let me accompany you on the walk up."
