Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

[22:Super Cool Chapter Name That Everyone Thinks is Awesome!]

"Eleanor!"

"What is it, Ochaco?"

I swear, just a moment of peace, please. I was in the break room after my fight with Midoriya. I was hungry again, so I was eating. I was the only one here, since everyone else was watching the other fights. Except for Ochaco, she's here.

"You have to explain my quirk more!" She said as she sat down in front of me.

"Are you serious?" Who in the world would want to subject themselves to trying to understand quantum physics and exotic physics?

"Yes!" Apparently, Ochaco does.

"You yourself said that you had no clue what I meant when I explained what your quirk really is." I explained to her.

"Can you make it simple?"

I let out a sigh as I got up. "Alright, fine, pay attention." I went to an empty table. "Let's make this simple, even if it's not completely accurate. You don't make things float. Floating is what happens when something stops falling. Here's the thing, everything is always falling, because gravity is always pulling. When you touch something and it floats, that means that something is pushing up just as hard as gravity is pulling it down. That 'something' is you, Ochaco."

I picked up the table above my head. "Let me explain what gravity is. Gravity is a pull between masses. All masses. This table is exerting a pull on everything around it, including me and you, but it doesn't matter because of the Earth. The Earth is pulling this table down." I dropped the table, a heavy thud reverberating around the room. "When you make something float, you're overpowering the force of gravity."

"So that means…I'm fighting gravity?"

"Exaclty, Ochaco, now you're getting it."

I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil, and wrote down a simple diagram: "Earth pulls down:↓↓↓↓↓ You push up:↑↑↑↑↑."

I explained to Ochaco, "When these forces are equal, nothing moves. When your force is stronger, it rises. When your force is weaker, it falls. Therefore, you don't control gravity, you control force."

"Now, let me explain why you feel nauseous when you lift something past your limit. When you make something float, your body is using energy to produce force. This energy is glucose, and you're using a lot of it, which means your glucose levels drop, which in turn gives you hypoglycemia, which causes nausea."

"How do you understand my quirk better than me?"

"Don't worry about that, Ochaco. Just focus. Now, answer me a question. After what I told you, why do you only push up?"

"Um…I…don't know?"

"Gravity pulls down, so push up. Why not push something sideways?"

"Huh? Sideways?"

"Here, try it." I put the pencil down on the table. "Move the pencil sideways with your quirk. Here's a little tip: gravity is the reason we have a sense of 'up' and 'down.' Apply that logic to the pencil with your quirk."

Ochaco touched the pencil with her fingertip, and it started to glow, and just so slightly, instead of floating, it moved sideways. I could see the look of shock on her face as she realized what she had done.

"Just a bit of work on that and you'll be fine. The important part is that you are able to do it. Now, let's move on to something else. If you can match Earth's pull, you can exceed it. Trying applying it in reverse. Make the table slam downward."

She put her fingertips to the table, and slowly it was being pushed down, but it wasn't a big slam.

"Good." Just then, I heard from the speakers that my next match was up.

"Well, I have to go now, Ochaco, but as you can see, you're stronger than you look. Just a bit of practice and you'll do great things. Oh, and before I go, remember Newton's third law. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. It'll help you discover more. Anyway, that's it. See ya."

I left the break room, leaving Ochaco to practice. The biggest weakness is that she has to actually touch something or someone for her new abilities to work.

Anyway, I wonder who my opponent is.

"For the first match of the semi-finals, we have Eleanor and Tokoyami!" Midnight said

YES! YES! YES! YES! Thank you, gods above!

Wait, that means Shoto and Bakugo are in the other fights! YES! Let them take care of eachother! I almost have my ideal scenario, but I do still have to fight one of them. It's like Henry Kissinger once said, "It's a pity they both can't lose." Oh well, one problem at a time.

This will be an easy fight, barely an inconvenience.

Light-based weakness? You know what that means.

"Begin!"

As soon as Midnight gave the start, I unleashed drone swarms from my carrier rigging. I saw Tokoyami control his dark shadow on the defensive. His dark shadow had large claws ready to strike everything down, unfortunately for him.

Crack! Like the sound of a firework, a 40mm aerial flashbang exploded above him and his dark shadow. He covered his ears and closed his eyes, and his dark shadow retreated as it seemed to writhe in pain.

But that wasn't the end; a few of my drones also deployed high-intensity flashlights on him. They were around 11,000 lumen focused mainly on his dark shadow as they followed it around.

With dark shadow out of the picture, there was only Tokoyami, who was still disoriented from the aerial flashbang. Normally, those are meant to be deployed 50–100 meters above a crowd, but this was deployed…a little closer.

I ran up to him, and while he was still disoriented, I grabbed his arm and threw him out of the arena.

"Eleanor wins! She advances to the finals!" Midnight announced as she brought down her whip.

I went to Tokoyami and helped him up. "You okay?"

"My ears are still ringing, and my head is killing me. My vision is also a little off."

"It's okay, it'll wear off in a moment. You'll be fine. Visit Recovery Girl; she'll help you."

"I thought I'd be able to last a bit longer, but your little robots are way too good. And how did you know my weakness?"

"Well, releasing flashbangs is a strategy of mine to disorient. When I noticed how your dark shadow reacted after being hit by a flashbang, I thought the light had something to do with it, so I tested it out, and it worked."

"I see. Good luck in your next fight."

"Thanks, Tokoyami."

And now, the moment I've been waiting for. Ready?
