Arthur felt a bit embarrassed when the gate soldiers questioned him. After all, why would he openly admit why he was looking for Orochi?

Of course, he couldn't tell these gatekeepers the truth.

If these guards knew the real reason he came to find Kurozumi Orochi, they'd probably try to cut him down in under a minute—even though they were just weak, low-ranking soldiers.

They were no match for him and couldn't even threaten him. But since he came here to meet Orochi, Arthur didn't plan to waste time dealing with them.

"Why am I here? I've been friends with Kurozumi Orochi for over ten years. I just came to drink and celebrate with him. He's in charge of Wano now, so why are you stopping me?"

The soldiers looked at each other, unsure if Arthur was telling the truth. If he really was a friend of Orochi's, then stopping him might get them killed.

They knew Orochi's temper—if they blocked one of his friends, Orochi would probably have their heads.

But if Arthur was lying, distracting them, or plotting against Orochi, letting him in would lead to trouble they couldn't handle.

After a brief discussion, the guards decided to report the matter to Orochi. One soldier was sent to inform him in the front hall.

When the soldier left to deliver the message, Arthur let out a small sigh of relief.

He figured Orochi would be curious to hear about someone claiming to be an old friend. Knowing Orochi's personality, he would definitely summon him.

"Wait here for a while," one guard said. "We've sent someone to inform Orochi. If you're really his friend, we'll let you in. But if you're lying, you'll regret it…"

The guards tried to sound tough, even though they were just minor grunts. Arthur didn't pay much attention to their threats—they weren't worth the effort.

Meanwhile, Orochi was drinking when the soldier came to report. Hearing that an old friend had come to see him, Orochi was a bit surprised.

"What old friend could this be, someone who even called me by name? Could it be a childhood playmate?" Orochi thought to himself. "That's impossible. They wouldn't know I'm here, and besides, I barely had any playmates as a child. So why is this person coming to see me?"

Kurozumi Orochi was very cautious. He questioned the soldier again about Arthur's appearance, wanting to be certain whether he knew this man or not.

If Orochi didn't recognize Arthur, then he assumed Arthur had come looking for trouble. In such cases, Orochi usually let his men deal with it, especially when the troublemaker had money or ulterior motives.

"This man is thin and tall, looks quite young. His age isn't easy to tell, but he's also a Devil Fruit user," the soldier reported.
