When Kendall arrived at the clinic, Neil was already awake.
There was a bandage on his forehead, one of the lenses in his glasses was shattered, his face was bruised and purple, and he was leaning against the bedside, pale-lipped, receiving an injection.
"Third brother! How are you?" Kendall rushed over, her black eyes filled with worry.
"No big deal just a small fracture and a mild concussion." Neil tried to sit up instinctively but grimaced from the pain and let out a sharp breath.
Kendall pressed her red lips together and gently helped him lie back down. Her voice turned icy.
"Who did this to you?"
"A few bodyguards working for the coal boss," Neil replied after a pause.
It all started last month.
Neil, who had been working at a prestigious law firm in Rosemont, was approached by a middle-aged woman from the countryside. Her husband had been working at a nearby coal mine.
