3rd person POV

Robin stared at the scene unfolding in front of her, sighing heavily as the "trustworthy" woman casually approached the little girl.

Of course.

Because why wouldn't Robin stumble into something sketchy when all she wanted was chips and pizza?

The little girl, completely absorbed in her book, didn't even glance up. Probably thought the woman was just some random adult. But Robin wasn't buying it. The white van was the cherry on top of this "definitely not safe" situation.

God, it's like Stranger Danger 101.

Robin glanced back at the pizza place, where Rosalie was still waiting in line, looking as bored as an immortal vampire could possibly be. Yeah, Rosalie would not be thrilled if Robin caused a scene. Again.

But this wasn't exactly something she could ignore.

"Okay, Robin," she muttered to herself. "No getting into trouble. Just… de-escalate. Nicely."

She took a step forward, then paused.

"…Or as nicely as possible when dealing with potential kidnappers."

Robin casually approached the store entrance, eyes locked on the woman closing in on the girl. She plastered on a friendly smile, the kind that made people think she was harmless.

"Oh my God!" Robin gasped loudly, waving her arms. "Emma!"

The little girl blinked up, confused.

Wait?... Hmmm, why does she look familiar? Eh

Well, never mind, kids are like babies, they all look generic to me, I grew up looking faces that looked like the Gods took their time molding them.

Babies are just like bald monkeys or mole rats whe they come out, and kids have the basic cute charisma, but I guess this one is cuter than normal. Probably why she was targeted in t he first place, aside from the fact that whoever left her out here is taking her sweet time, I don't wannajudge, but leaving kid out here?

The woman froze mid-step.

Robin practically skipped over. "There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you, kiddo!"

The girl stared at her, wide-eyed, gripping her book tighter. Robin leaned down slightly, dropping her voice.

"Hey, kid, you don't know me, but I need you to play along, okay?" she whispered. "Nod if you understand."

The girl hesitated… then gave the tiniest nod.

"Good." Robin straightened, beaming. "Mom's gonna freak if I lose you again." She reached out, offering her hand.

The woman's expression flickered—hesitation, annoyance.

"Oh," she said, fake surprise coating her voice. "Is she your sister?"

Robin grinned too wide. "Yep! Little menace, isn't she? Always wandering off." She ruffled the girl's hair gently.

The woman's eyes narrowed slightly, but she didn't move closer.

Robin tilted her head, still smiling. "Can I help you with something?"

There was a beat of silence.

"No," the woman finally said, backing off. "Just thought she was someone I knew."

"Uh-huh." Robin watched her retreat toward the van. "Yeah, that's what they all say."

The van's engine roared to life, and it peeled away into the night.

Robin exhaled slowly.

"That was sketchy as hell."

The girl blinked up at her.

"Okay, kid, where are your parents?" Robin asked, scanning the store.

"…Inside," the girl mumbled.

Robin huffed. "They left you alone out here?"

"I told them I'd be fine."

Robin gave her a flat look. "Kid, you were two minutes away from starring in a Dateline episode."

"…What's Dateline?"

Robin groaned. "Right. Too young. Anyway, let's not have a repeat of that."

The store door jingled open, and a tired-looking Woman stepped out, holding grocery bags. Her eyes widened when he spotted the girl.

"Bella! There you are!"

Oh, for—

Robin's brain screeched to a halt.

Bella.

Fuck No. Nope. Not doing this right now.

Robin's polite smile tightened.

"She was almost snatched by the sketchy van over there, just so you know."

The woman paled. "What?"

"Yeah. Maybe don't leave her outside alone next time."

Bella's Mother—Renee, oh God, of course it's Renee—stammered out a thank you, but Robin was already walking away, dragging a hand down her face.

Why? Why is it always me?

Also, Bella really has been a trouble magnet since young, huh...

I don't know how, for some reason, I can sympathize more with her with this newfound information.

~~

Back at the pizza place, Rosalie raised an eyebrow as Robin jogged up, slightly out of breath.

"Did you get into trouble?" Rosalie asked flatly.

Robin slapped a hand on her chest, mock-offended. "Me? I'm a model citizen."

Rosalie squinted. "Then why are you out of breath?"

"Cardio. You know, staying in shape."

Rosalie didn't look convinced.

Robin grabbed the pizza box from her hands. "Let's go home and eat. I'm starving."

Rosalie let it slide. For now.

~~

Later that night, Robin flopped face-first onto the couch in their temporary rental.

Rosalie perched on the edge of the bed, brushing her hair. "So… going to tell me what actually happened?"

Robin's voice was muffled against the cushions. "I may have stopped a kidnapping."

Rosalie froze mid-brush. "…What?"

Robin flipped over, gesturing lazily. "Some creeps in a white van were eyeing a kid. I intervened. All good now."

Rosalie stared at her. "Robin."

"What? I didn't even break anything this time!"

Rosalie pinched the bridge of her nose. "We came here to relax."

"I was relaxing! Until crime decided to happen in front of me."

Rosalie sighed. "You're impossible."

Robin grinned. "And you love me for it."

Rosalie didn't answer, but the faint smile tugging at her lips was enough.

Bella Swan's POV

Bella turned the page of her book, blocking out the dull hum of the grocery store parking lot. The glow of the streetlamp above flickered, but she barely noticed. She was used to being left alone.

Mom was inside grabbing something she forgot—again. Bella had insisted she could wait outside. She was fine.

At least, she thought she was.

That was before the white van pulled up across the lot.

Bella's grip on her book tightened.

Okay. Probably nothing. Just some random car.

Then the woman stepped out.

Bella's stomach twisted.

The woman didn't look scary. She smiled like any other adult. Maybe a little too much. Her steps were casual, too casual, as she started walking—straight toward her.

Bella's pulse quickened.

Okay, stay calm. Maybe she's just lost.

But the woman's eyes didn't wander. They were locked on Bella.

Her brain screamed stranger danger, but her body wouldn't move.

"Hey, sweetie," the woman called out, voice sticky-sweet. "Are you waiting for someone?"

Oh God.

Before Bella could react, another voice—louder, sharper—cut through the air.

"Oh my God! Emma!"

Bella blinked.

What?

A girl—no, a woman—was striding toward them, waving like they were best friends. Dark hair, dressed in casual clothes, but she carried herself like she owned the place.

The creepy woman froze mid-step.

The newcomer practically skipped over.

"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you, kiddo!"

Bella stared, her book hanging limply in her hands.

Wait. Who was this?

Robin leaned in, dropping her voice low enough that only Bella could hear.

"Hey, kid, I don't know you, but I need you to play along, okay? Just nod."

Bella's brain scrambled.

Stranger danger... but this one seemed different. Less creepy, more... chaotic?

Still terrifying.

But less so.

Bella gave the smallest nod.

Robin's grin widened. "Good." She straightened, casually ruffling Bella's hair. "Mom's gonna freak if I lose you again."

Bella stiffened but stayed quiet.

The creepy woman's smile tightened. "Oh, is she your sister?"

Robin didn't miss a beat. "Yep! Little menace is always running off. You know how it is."

The woman didn't move closer, but her eyes narrowed slightly.

Robin tilted her head, all fake sweetness. "Can I help you with something?"

Silence.

Then, finally—

"No. I thought she was someone I knew."

"Uh-huh." Robin's grin sharpened. "Sure."

The woman hesitated for a second too long before turning and heading back to the van.

Bella watched the van roar to life and disappear into the night.

Robin let out a slow, exaggerated breath.

"Well, that was sketchy as hell."

Bella blinked up at her.

Robin crouched slightly, eyeing her.

"Okay, kid. Where are your parents?"

"…Inside," Bella mumbled.

Robin raised an eyebrow. "They left you out here alone?"

"I told them I'd be fine."

Robin gave her a deadpan look.

"Yeah, well, you were about two minutes away from being a Dateline special."

Bella frowned. "…What's Dateline?"

Robin groaned, dragging a hand down her face. "God, I feel old. Never mind."

The store door jingled, and Bella's mom stepped out, juggling grocery bags.

"Bella! There you are!"

Bella didn't even turn.

Robin straightened, her polite smile stretching a little too wide.

"She was almost snatched by the creeps in that van over there. Just so you know."

Renee paled. "What?!"

Robin shrugged. "Yeah. Maybe don't leave her outside alone next time."

Renee stammered out a thank you, but Robin was already walking away.

Bella stared after her.

What just happened?

3RD PERSON'S POV

Meanwhile, across town, Alice Cullen sat up abruptly in bed.

Jasper cracked an eye open. "What is it, darlin'?"

Alice's eyes glazed over for a second.

"Oh, nothing," she murmured, a sly smile creeping onto her face. "Robin's having fun in Arizona."

Jasper groaned, pulling the blanket over his head. "God help us all."
