Chapter 77 - V2 Chapter 24

 _ _ _3rd person pov_ _ _

It begins with confidence, then that confidence turns to confusion, and then, finally it turns to uncontrollable panic. That's how it always plays out when humans realize that the tools they used to climb to the top of the food chain are no longer effective against what's in front of them. This time in fact wasn't any different in the slightest, they had believed that their weapons were infallible, but when that was proven wrong?

"Fuck fuck fuck fuck!"

"Shoot it! Fucking shoot it!"

"Th-this isn't how it was s-supposed to go...."

"Stop shaking and open fir-WATCH OUT!"

"Aaaaaaaah!"

As their confidence crumbled, and they were faced with reality, things progressed as you'd probably expect. One by one they fell, some were ripped apart and or swallowed in a tooth filled maw, others were impaled by quills launched from Ralph's tail, there were even some of them that were simply trampled under foot like insects.

Some stood and fought, others ran but it didn't mean much, they were destined to die here after all. One of them had actually managed to get pretty far however, he had run in the opposite direction of the others, a fact that let him get some distance between him and the slaughter going on back the way he came.

"Gotta get back, gotta reach th-." He was unable to finish that sentence as he was sent tumbling to the ground.

For a moment he was confused, he hadn't tripped over anything so why did he fall? He had just enough time to look down to see that his foot had been cleanly cut off at the ankle before the pain hit him.

"Sorry about that, however you did bring this upon yourself when you decided to shoot first." A calm voice spoke up with a hit of pity in it.

"G-get the hell away you bloody freak!" He spat as he spotted who it was that had spoken, unfortunately he was barely able to keep himself together as the burning pain spread up his leg.

Carmen just shook her head and sighed at that. "There's no need for name calling buddy."

"Go fuck yourself!" He yelled through gritted teeth before attempting to reach for his side arm only for Carmen's tail to lash out, it easily sliced off part of his hand as well as several of his fingers on top of that. "AAAAAAAH!!"

"Yeah, let's not do that." She hummed before turning her attention away from him momentarily.

<> Carmen was referring to the cameras built into their equipment that was feeding information back to those at Energyne.

<>

<> She mused before continuing. <> Before Carmen could finish that sentence however something cut her off.

It wasn't exactly hard to miss, after all the sound that the UH-60 Black Hawk was making as it came over the tree line was more than enough of a warning as to what was coming. The guy on the ground couldn't help but smile as hope flickered in his pained eyes. As for my own reaction, well, I wasn't very intimidated even as the chopper's side door opened to reveal someone holding a very large machine gun.

"Hurry up and shoot this fucking thing already!" He yelled up at them, blood still leaking from his grievous wounds.

The small, chibi-like xenomorph queen just sighed and shook her head as she spoke through the link. <>

With that out of the way she turned her attention back to the situation before her. "Deal with that won't you." She said before whistling, not even a second later did those on the chopper start firing.

They weren't firing at Carmen mind you, oh no, they were in fact firing at something off in the distance. For just a moment the man in front of Carmen was confused, that confusion only lasted until Ralph came charging out from between the trees.

The massive wolf in question leapt into the air while ignoring the bullets hitting his body, he then bit onto the chopper's tail and instead of trying to chomp through it he instead did something a little different. Using the momentum from his jump he twisted in the air, pulling the chopper along with him, before proceeding to fling it into the ground. The chopper, of course, exploded on impact sending scraps of metal as well as broken and chard body parts flying in every direction.

Of course, all Carmen and the Energyne goon could see was the smoke that rose up beyond the tree line. Unfortunately for the goon in question it was enough to shatter any remaining hopes that he might get out of this alive.

"Now then, time for a quick test." She said before knocking the goon out before he could respond.

Without waiting any longer Carmen began adding him to the hide mind, with him unconscious and in a weakened state it didn't take long to do just that. Thankfully she was able to finish before he bled to death, honestly she may have gone a bit overboard when wounding him but she couldn't change that now. Anyway, she then had his unconscious mind transfer all the useful experiences and memories he had into the hive mind before he died a second later.

Honestly, when she tried tapping into that information a moment later she couldn't help but find the experience rather strange all things considered. And this was coming from someone who could literally take control of the bodies of various people and creatures through a telepathic hive mind. Moving on though, looking through his memories was like being in a deep dream that was incredibly vivid and realistic, except for the fact that she was fully awake and perfectly aware of what was going on around her.

After doing a few more tests Carmen returned to the Yautja ship and left, not before saying bye to the cute doggo though. In the end however she decided to leave Ralph behind for now, this was mostly because transporting him to the little base of operations would have been very annoying to pull off.

"Are you sure it was a good idea to leave the beast behind?" Enu asked as their ship uncloaked as it landed.

"Don't worry, we'll all be going to the same place sooner or later anyway so what does it matter?" Carmen shrugged as she got out only for the familiar figure that was Harper to run over the moment she noticed them.

"Miss Carmen, you may wish to hear about this."

"What's up?"

"Red had asked someone to give you these when you return, I had nothing else to do so I volunteered." She explained as she handed me three large files filled with various news reports as well as other pieces of written information. "There are various reports he had managed to get his hands on recently."

With that said she began explaining as I slipped through the information. "The first comes from the Everglades in Southern Florida. Apparently two men witnessed a boat with five people on it get torn in half by some kind of massive reptilian creature in the water."

"The next report comes from Escondido, California. According to several eyewitnesses, a giant albino gorilla broke out of its containment and went on a rampage. A worker at the zoo by the name of Davis Okoye attempted to calm the animal in question. At least that was until government officials tranquilized the creature and took the previously mentioned Davis Okoye into custody along with the gorilla and a dark skinned woman by the name of Dr. Kate Caldwell."

"And the last one?" I asked as I continued looking through the papers.

"Above the city of Manaus in Brazil, an A320 Airbus was torn from the sky and crash landed on the outskirts of the city in question. One of its wings had been torn off and it had large jagged holes running across its surface." She explained with a grim tone in her voice. "Unfortunately no one was able to see what happened thanks to the heavy cloud cover but monitoring equipment showed that something big and fast collided with the plane mid air. As for those on the ground, some say they saw something shimmering in the clouds above, something golden."

"And the survivors?" I hummed as I finally looked up at her as she continued.

"Only eight out of the one hundred and thirty two aboard survived." She hummed solemnly before continuing. "They spoke of something gigantic latching onto the plane's roof, of metallic talons ripping through metal, of something red, blue and gold moving outside the windows, and the beating of massive wings."

"Well...isn't that interesting."
