Sunlight flows through the open balcony doors of a room that looks like it was created for the old gods. The wind makes the curtains dance as it touches the face of a man sleeping on the bed, which looks big enough to accommodate six different adult-sized people and still have enough space left for another. With a little wince, his eyes slowly open. He takes a few vigilant glances at his surroundings before rising from his lying position, expertly avoiding waking the two ladies who had made his chest their pillow for the night.
Avoiding their very abnormal physical features as if they were a regular appearance for him, he gives out a quick yawn, stretches his body, and speaks out into the air,"Morning, Evana."
And sure enough, from seemingly nowhere and everywhere, a gentle Russian-accented voice speaks back,"Morning, young master Alexander. I hope you slept well."
"I did indeed," the man now identified as Alexander replies as he makes his way to the bathroom located a whole 80 feet away, alluding to the grandeur of the room.
Once in the bathroom, he steps up to a golden sink and water automatically starts pouring out by itself. With a couple of splashes of water to the face, he looks into the mirror, turning his head slowly in all cardinal directions as he examines his face.
"So how's the day looking?" he asks. And right after, a hard light projection appears just left of his peripheral view. On it, the news is displayed accompanied by the corresponding sound.
"On today's news, we have yet another report of a man seemingly dressed in a black leather bat costume making his way across the rooftops of Gotham City in the dead of night. Reports say the appearance of the vigilante now commonly known as the BATMAN is becoming more and more apparent. Police Commissioner Gillian Loeb had this to say:
'Ever since caped flying men started flying around Metropolis and Gateway City, vigilantes have started popping up all over America. Now Gotham is just getting its turn — and just like the rest of them, this serial assaulter will be caught and brought to justice. He is nothing more than a madman getting in the way of real police work.'"
'So Bruce is really coming into his role as the Batman now, huh?'
"In other news, a green glowing man was spotted in Coast City yesterday. Is this the emergence of yet another metahuman? Should the people of Coast City be scared? The mayor is said to hold a press conference later today to address this very topic.
In more local news, Senate President Michael Donald is set to address the recent protests regarding the reinstatement of the death penalty into the capital punishments in our state this afternoon. In an exclusive interview with our very own Sandra Kasey, he had this to say:
'The fact of the matter is that 80% of the time when our very capable men in blue do their very difficult job and capture these criminals — these mass murderers, these devils of society, some of whom are enhanced — they end up back in our streets and continue their crimes within 6 months. At which point do we hold ourselves accountable for allowing all these unnecessary and meaningless deaths to continue?'
There you have it, folks. It doesn't look like our state legislatures have any plans on going back on this one. Question is — are they right, or do the moral implications of forcing death upon a fellow human being outweigh their point?
And lastly, Gateway City's very own multi-billionaire Alexander Jonathan Pierce is set to meet with the mayor's office in a couple of hours to discuss Yggdrasil's purchase of a 250-acre plot of land for the construction of their new headquarters and main research campus. This project is projected to bring in millions for the city in the short term and billions in the long run. It's said that at least 5,000 of our locals will be able to find employment there."
"I see things are moving as predicted when it comes to our plans, Evana."
"Yes, young master. Mr. Michael has already informed us about his upcoming press conference and he also mentioned that regardless of public opinion, the matter of the death sentence will proceed as you've instructed. And your upcoming meeting with the mayor has already been added to your schedule today.
Lady Albedo has already prepared all necessary documents. Should everything proceed as expected, you'll be leaving the meeting a couple million poorer in cash, but land-assets richer."
"Excellent. That's what I like hearing," he says as he turns to get into the shower behind him — only to be startled by what he saw.
"Mhm… Evana? Why is there a full-length portrait of me in Shalltear's shower? And fully naked, no less?"
"Lady Shalltear had me generate it for her a couple days ago. According to her, seeing it first thing in the morning allows her day to go by much better. Those were her exact words."
"Righhht... okay. Please remove it while I'm using this shower. Last thing I want is seeing myself fully nude while I try and bathe — no matter how handsome and sexy I am."
"Right away, master. And allow me to be the first to wish you a very happy 23rd birthday."
"Thank you, Eve. You know I really appreciate it."
'It's already been 15 years now, huh? From a weak little orphan to a demigod. Not bad progress... not bad progress at all,' he thought to himself as he started reminiscing about his journey till now.
