Chapter 7 - Problem at work

The dark night enveloped the remote warehouse district of Santa Fé.

In the security room at the front entrance, Lenny casually leaned back in his chair: "Rojo, we're on duty together tonight. The boss said a batch of goods will be shipped later."

"No problem."

Rojo stretched. After a week of work, he finally understood the job's requirements.

Usually, he is the only one working the night shift at the main entrance. The warehouse has one main door, four small doors, and a patrol team. The other three small doors are not manned and are regularly checked by the patrol team.

There was no one around at night. Rojo would often stay alone in the security room, reading books and watching movies. He waited until someone took over the next day and then left. The warehouse was so remote that no one would be there. Robbery in places where people don't even go to the bathroom is rare unless they're really poor and crazy.

However, occasionally there would be people on duty together, and in such cases, goods would usually be delivered. At that time, the factory's patrol team would also expand. Most of them carried weapons. It wasn't hard to imagine what was happening in the warehouse.

"Would you like a drink?"

Lenny offered a beer.

"I don't drink much and still have to grow tonight. I don't want to spend the night yawning."

Rojo waved his hand and declined. Although he hadn't encountered any accidents after so many days of work, he didn't want to get drunk in the security room.

"Okay, I'll just drink alone then. See, I want to take a nap after drinking during the first half of the night."

Lenny put the wine bottle cap on the table and pushed it hard. The cap suddenly popped off. Then he took a big gulp of the cold wine and poured it into his mouth.

"Well, I'm going out for a smoke."

Rojo opened the door, reached the iron gate, leaned against the wall, lit a cigarette, and began to blow smoke.

At the same time, he rolled up his sleeves and exposed his forearms. His eyes focused on his skin. A "Wolverine" mark appeared, and the star in the mark deepened slightly.

This meant that Rojo had mastered Uncle Wolf's superpower. This ability itself was not complicated and belonged to the basic category, so it was naturally not difficult to learn.

After returning home the previous night, he discovered that his strength had greatly improved. Before this, he hadn't learned any superpowers from any mutants. The main reason was that the mutants he met were too weak in terms of physical fitness, and some weren't even as good as him.

Therefore, after learning Uncle Wolf's super strength, his strength visibly improved, and he could easily bend a steel bar. Moreover, what was even more surprising was that his muscle density also improved. His muscles became rougher and the flesh thicker, making it difficult to scratch with a blade.

Obviously, this was related to learning super strength. The prerequisite for having strong power must be a strong physical body as a foundation.

In fact, Rojo had already experienced this when he learned the first two mutant abilities. The two mutant abilities not only brought lightning and damage transfer but also improved his mental and spiritual power.

This is also why Rojo would fall into temporary weakness every time he used these two mutant abilities, which consumed his energy.

The main reason was that Rojo was too mentally weak, but he wouldn't faint directly.

Rojo calmed down, the mark glowed faintly, and six star points appeared before his eyes again, connected by a line in a human shape. It looked like Wolverine, but it was only an outline, and more star points were needed to fill it in to make it complete.

"I hope I can learn Uncle Wolf's super self-healing. By the way, I can improve it. I don't know what effect it will have."

Rojo looked at the stars, took a long drag on the white smoke, threw away the burnt cigarette, and habitually stepped on the butt with the sole of his shoe and rubbed it back and forth.

The soles were rubbed several times and showed obvious scratches.

Boom! ! !

Bang——

Suddenly, not far behind him, a violent explosion occurred in a large warehouse. A breach opened in the roof, and flames shot into the sky, illuminating Rojo's face.

He had another cigarette in his mouth but hadn't had time to light it.

"Holy crab!"

The security room door opened. Lenny, completely drunk, asked in horror: "Rojo, what happened!"

He said, seeing the warehouse in flames, with a thick accent: "My God, the warehouse is done for, and the job will be lost!"

"It's very hard to find a job these days."

Rojo put away the cigarette, remembered what was written in the rules, and fled when he heard the sound of gunfire. He was about to go out the gate when he saw several cars approaching on the road.

"There's someone, get back quickly!"

He quickly pushed Lenny into the security room. The people in the cars outside gave him a bad feeling.

Sure enough, when he returned to the security room, he saw through the surveillance screen a group of big men holding rifles getting out of the car, pulling the trigger, and breaking the lock on the door.

"They don't look like the boss's men."

Lenny's face turned pale when he saw this.

"Of course, the boss has the key, let's hide first."

Rojo asked Lenny to hide in the locker room while he hid in the cabinet and looked through the gap in the cabinet door.

Boom!

The security room door was kicked open, and several gang members wearing short sleeves entered carrying Uzi submachine guns.

"There's no one in the security room."

"Don't waste time. Get the surveillance camera and copy part of it. Let Baker and the others act quickly. Sherman's support is on the way."

The leader, the bearded man, gestured for his men to get surveillance while he grabbed a bottle of beer nearby and drank.

"Hmm."

"Two minutes at most."

He took a flash drive, inserted it into the host computer, and at the same time accessed the surveillance screen inside the warehouse.

Rojo took a deep breath and looked out through the gap. When he saw the other side turning on the warehouse screen, he guessed that the matter was not simple; after all, the other side was obviously prepared. They easily deciphered the surveillance screen password.

Bang.

As I was observing, suddenly there was a muffled sound from the locker room on the left, as if something had fallen to the ground.

"Who?!"

The bearded leader immediately raised his submachine gun vigilantly, dropped the wine bottle, and waved for his companions to approach the locker room.

"Damn Lenny."

Rojo cursed in a low voice and tried to lower his head to avoid the other side seeing the person hidden inside while passing by the cabinet.

"I advise you to come out quickly, or we'll shoot."

The bearded man passed by the cabinet and didn't notice anyone inside. Instead, he left the locker room and said: "We have three people here, three submachine guns, and ninety rounds of ammunition. Not even an elephant can withstand that. Do you think the door can block it?"

Click.

"Okay, don't shoot, I'm coming out."

The locker room door opened, Lenny swallowed nervously, raised his hands, and cautiously walked out.

"Hey, hiding in the locker room like a rat, aren't you hot?"

The bearded man smiled, grabbed Lenny, threw him to the ground, pointed the gun at him, and asked: "Is there anyone else here?"

In the cabinet, Rojo became nervous. He didn't dare to look through the gap, fearing he would be discovered.

However, the sounds and movements outside were enough for him to imagine the scene in the security room at this moment. Lenny must have been scared, kneeling on the ground, sweating profusely, with stiff hands and feet.

"No more, it's just me."

Lenny's voice came.

Rojo sighed in relief. If Lenny confessed, it would mean his mutant ability would be exposed again.

They couldn't expect a group of gangsters blowing up warehouses and robbing them to let the two go, especially after seeing the faces of these gangsters.

"Are you sure about that?"

"You'd better not lie, or you'll suffer more."

Came the bearded man's cold voice, with a smile.

Rojo heard another gangster checking the locker room. There was a lot of movement at the next door. They must have turned the whole room upside down.

"Boss, the locker room is empty."

Lenny's sigh of relief was heard.

"You searched all of them, didn't you?"

The bearded man spoke again: "No, there's still this cabinet. I haven't looked at it yet. Go and open it."
