Olivia
I believe things happen for a reason, but I still wonder why. Everyone seems to have a different perspective.
It's Friday afternoon, and Fall Break starts—a whole week off school. My favorite part is raking leaves into big piles and jumping in them. I invited Jack over since my brother is helping our mom make dinner. My dad is at work until 4:00. Jack and I were hanging out until about 3:45. Then he went home to do his homework at home.
Tonight Mom is cooking chicken lasagna, green bean casserole, corn, carrot cake, and yellow pudding cake—my brother's and my favorite holiday foods. But the best part is spending time with family, especially cousins Gracie and Molly. Gracie is a year younger and a sophomore; Molly is two years older and in her first year of college. I just need to finish my junior and senior years at Beloupe High. My cousins were sitting in the living room playing a board game when Jack left. Then, I went to talk to my cousins about girl stuff.
After my cousins and I finished our girly talk, we went into the kitchen just as my father walked through the front door. Johnny had just finished helping our mother with all the food preparations. My brother and I ran over to hug him along with our cousins.
After my mom hugged and kissed my dad, we all came around the dinner table to eat the food that was prepared. After everyone ate, my brother and I decided to help clean up. We told our parents that we would clean up everything in the house.
"Can you make sure that Gracie and Molly go to bed? Also, make sure that you guys have some time to yourselves. I know that it's been hard the past couple of days," I said concerned.
"Sure. We can do that. Don't stay up too late. Good night. We love you," said Mom and Dad, going upstairs.
"Good night. We love you too," Johnny and I said back.
After we finished cleaning the house, we started heading to our rooms when Johnny wanted to go up on the roof to see the stars. I agreed, and we headed up."Do you know the best part of being up here?" Johnny asked. "Being able to see the stars without any barriers is the best part," I said to my brother.
"You read my mind, sis. That's always the best part. Remember when our parents used to take us up here right after the holiday? We couldn't come up here without them until we were 13," Johnny responded."Yeah, I remember that. They were really strict about it. They made sure that we didn't sneak up here before then," I said, remembering.
"Now, both of us are 17 years old. It feels like our parents were trying to wait until we were mature enough," Johnny said, thinking.
My brother and I looked at the stars. It was a pretty sight. It was like seeing different twinkie cakes in the night sky. It was a moment of serenity. I think that moment of serenity only lasted a couple of minutes when we heard a noise.
"Did you hear that? It was like something had knocked over the garbage can and run away," Johnny said, worried. "Or it could be that our dogs, Daisy and Duke, are in trouble?" I said, even more worried.
Johnny and I looked around. We didn't see anything at first, that is, until we looked at the power line and noticed that our dogs, Daisy and Duke, were in trouble. They were struggling to get across to where we were on the roof.
"Oh my goodness. They really are in trouble. It's a long way down, and if they fall before getting over there, they could die," my brother said worriedly.
"We could either call our parents for help or try to get them ourselves," I suggested. "I say that we try to get Daisy and Duke ourselves first, and then if we can't get them to safety, we can call our parents," Johnny said, considering our options.
After talking about what we would do, we decided that I would try to get our dogs, Daisy and Duke, to safety. Considering the distance between the power line and the ground, I was petrified.
From the look of it, the height from the power line to the ground was approximately 25 to 35 feet. I started crawling towards our dogs on the power line. I was halfway to them when it started raining heavily. It was like the wind from a tornado and a powerful thunderstorm combined. I was trying to hurry, but I didn't want to hurt myself. I got to Daisy and Duke. Our dogs were frightened. I sent each of them across the power line one at a time.
After I sent them back towards the house and they were safe, I began to head back towards the house. I was halfway across the power line when lightning struck. I tried standing up but slipped because of the rain. I could feel the electricity through the power line on my hands, then I felt one billion watts of lightning power, or 1 gigawatt, going through my body. The moment it touched my heart, I blacked out. _________________________________________________________________________________________________Jack
I was sitting in my room thinking about Olivia. I didn't expect that the girl I was looking for would be the same one who gave me a tour of Beloupe High School. I wanted to become friends with her twin brother, but he didn't trust me too much. Her twin brother, Johnny, was overprotective of her due to many of the boys in our grade who wanted to be with her. He had every right to be overprotective of her. Many of the boys in our grade would break her heart, or even worse. She didn't need boys like them in her life who just wanted to use her for their benefit.I went to get ready in case someone needed a superhero. I turned on the TV to see what was going on. There was nothing major going on except for the fact that it was raining heavily. I used my superhearing to see if anyone was in danger. I didn't hear anything until lightning struck. I could hear two dogs barking continuously. I knew they were Olivia's dogs.I went out the back door. I saw why her dogs were barking. Her dogs were stuck on the power line, and she was also there trying to get them. Once she got to them, she sent each dog back towards her house. Once she made sure that they were safe, she began to head back towards her house. She was halfway there when lightning struck.
Lightning has 1 billion watts or 1 gigawatt. A human being, on average, can produce up to 2,000 watts of power. 1 gigawatt can kill a person. Lightning struck the light pole and traveled across the power lines where Olivia was. She tried to stand up but slipped due to the rain. She was holding on with both of her hands when the lightning struck where she was. The lightning coursed its way into her body until it struck her heart. When that happened, she blacked out. I could hear her brother calling out to her, wondering where she was.
Without thinking, I was already flying towards her. She began to fall due to being unconscious. I caught her before she could hit the ground, then I flew towards her house, where I saw her brother and their two dogs on the roof.
"What happened to my sister? I know she went to get our dogs off the power lines, then it started raining. Daisy and Duke made it across, but she didn't," her brother Johnny asked.
"Lightning struck the light pole and traveled to where she was. Not long after she blacked out and fell, and I caught her before she hit the ground," I said, responding to his question.
"I just hope that she will be okay, " Johnny said, worried.
I nodded and headed towards the hospital. I wanted her to be okay. I arrived at the hospital in five minutes due to my superspeed. Everyone knew that I was The Rescuer, but no one knew who was really under the mask but me, my parents, and the League of Superheroes.
The doctor had finished his night shift for regular hours. His regular hours end at 8 pm. His nocturnal hours began at 8:30 pm. Right now, it was 8:45 pm. I told the doctor about the situation and placed Olivia on the hospital bed. After I told the doctor about what happened, he and his staff took her to the surgery room to shock her heart since they could barely feel her pulse. They had to shock her heart three times before she was breathing again.
After making sure her vitals were okay, they put her in a room. She was breathing normally. I was standing at the door to make sure that she was okay. She looked and saw me.
"Who are you? Did you save me?" she asked curiously.
"I am The Rescuer, and yes, I did save you," I said. "How are you feeling?"
"I feel okay. The last thing I remember is blacking out due to being struck by lightning," she said, thinking back.
Olivia passed out after she said that.
