As an alchemical family, all of their courtyards and rooms contained a wide variety of ingredients for alchemy—flowers, herbs, trees, and minerals—and were even equipped with furnaces, cauldrons, and specialized firelighters powered by spiritual energy.
In this world, alchemy was much more advanced than in the world of vampires; it's no secret that vampires are terrible alchemists. That's why there were even ingredients here for level 4 or 5 alchemical pills or potions—far beyond his beginner's level, since he'd never even touched a furnace or a cauldron before.
Matthew took some time to study each of these items, using the books that had been left in his room. Someone was supposed to come and teach him alchemy, though he would learn most of it from the Spiritual Essence.
