After selecting his outfit for the premiere from the collection Armani had sent over, Matthew left the suite and returned to the reception room where he had previously met with fans. During this time, he also took a call to confirm the schedules of the other main actors. All the key cast members were scheduled to attend the global premiere, arriving the day before under Jack's direction.
Matthew hadn't expected that during his brief call in the restaurant's private room, the girl who had initially seemed significant would return.
Since she wanted to speak with him privately, Matthew decided to indulge her.
The girl had fair skin, a voluptuous figure, and long legs. She had curves in all the right places: slim where she needed to be, shapely where it counted, with strikingly pronounced contours. Her figure exuded femininity.
While a large chest isn't particularly rare, it often comes with thick arms and broad shoulders. Women with this combination usually have a commanding presence. Matthew had once met the eldest daughter of a future White House leader at a party, a classic example of this type.
By comparison, the girl who returned had a smaller frame and embodied a more sultry and seductive aesthetic.
Matthew pushed open the door to the reception room and was immediately greeted by her sensual and alluring aura, something not everyone could pull off.
In local terms, her "fox-like" eyes were incredibly captivating.
Seeing Matthew enter, the girl—Nini—stood up. Matthew smiled and said, "Please, have a seat. No need for formalities."
He sat down on the adjacent sofa, prompting Nini to sit as well.
"Miss Nini, you mentioned there was something you wanted to discuss?" Matthew asked directly. He had a meeting at nine with sponsors for the premiere, so there was no time for idle chatter. "If there's something you need help with, just ask. I'll do my best if I can."
Hearing this, Nini glanced at Matthew, thinking how much he sounded like those seasoned individuals back home. If he couldn't help, that likely meant he wouldn't.
Since she was already here, she wasn't about to leave empty-handed.
Whether successful or not, she had to give it a try.
"Today, Bai Xue and I attended your meet-and-greet at the Film Academy," Nini began, flashing a smile in an attempt to appear even more attractive. "Matthew, you mentioned that 'Fast & Furious 5' plans to cast a Chinese actress?"
Matthew nodded lightly. "Yes, that's part of the company's plan."
Of course, this wasn't true. It was a decision made right before this promotional tour.
While the role wasn't insignificant, it wasn't a major one either. The main purpose was for promotional value.
Nini's eyes sparkled. After a moment's hesitation, she made up her mind. "Will there be a wide casting call?"
Matthew easily understood her intent and replied, "The plan is to hold a nationwide open audition, starting in the second half of the year."
"I…" Nini seemed to struggle to get the words out, biting her lip before saying, "I'm actually an actress as well."
Once she said this, she immediately felt relieved. "I'd like to participate in the audition."
"Of course," Matthew said with a smile. "The audition is open to everyone who meets the requirements. Anyone can apply."
Disappointment briefly flickered in Nini's eyes. If she had to apply through an open call, why had she come here? Wasn't that a wasted effort?
But she wasn't giving up. Staring at Matthew with determination, she asked, "Isn't Hollywood producer-centric? Aren't you the producer of this franchise?"
Matthew smiled again but remained silent.
Nini suddenly stood up, her posture exuding seduction as her tall, curvy figure drew attention.
"How about me?" she asked urgently. "Do I catch your eye?"
Matthew tilted his head. "You're…" He thought for a moment before continuing, "You have a very striking appearance, but I don't know about your professional skills."
Nini took a small step toward him. "We could find a place where you can test me."
The meaning behind her words was clear as day. Matthew's eyes scanned her, and he subconsciously considered the idea. However, his rational side warned him it wasn't appropriate. After all, this wasn't North America, and any misstep here could lead to unpredictable consequences.
"Another time," Matthew said, prioritizing reason. "I'm still too busy with 'Fast & Furious 4' to think about 'Fast & Furious 5' for now."
Nini's face was full of charm, but internally, she was anxious. What did he want? Did he expect her to strip right here? That would be too shameless.
Matthew calmly added, "How about this: when the audition starts, sign up first. If you make it through the first two rounds..." He pulled out a business card and placed it on the coffee table. "Call this number, and I'll be waiting for you in Los Angeles."
Nini froze for a moment, then realized there might still be a chance.
Although this wasn't the outcome she had hoped for, he hadn't outright rejected her.
"Miss Nini," Matthew said as he stood to leave. "I hope to see you in Los Angeles."
With that, he turned and headed for the door without further conversation.
Nini picked up the card and noticed it only had a series of numbers. She guessed it was either Matthew's or his assistant's number, and her heart filled with excitement. "Once you're done here, I'll come find you in Los Angeles."
Matthew didn't turn back, simply raising his hand in acknowledgment as he exited the room.
This trans-Pacific arrangement had a certain unique thrill to it.
She'd likely go to Los Angeles. Once there, Matthew thought, he'd be on home turf, free from the constraints he felt here.
In fairness, Nini's appearance was excellent. If she could pass the first two rounds of auditions, acting wouldn't be an issue. After all, it was just a supporting role, not one that needed to shine too brightly.
It seemed like they were pulling some strings, but Matthew didn't mind. Such casting calls, even in Hollywood, often had hidden agendas.
In the reception room, Nini took one more look at the card, carefully placing it in her wallet alongside her ID. This card represented her future.
"Got it!" she whispered excitedly, pumping her fist in triumph. She left the room, entered an empty elevator, and couldn't hold back her smile any longer.
Once downstairs, she quickly left the hotel and took a cab back to her rented apartment, her face beaming with excitement the entire way.
It wasn't just about getting Matthew Horner's contact information and his implied promise. More importantly, she knew her efforts would not go unrewarded.
Back at the apartment, Nini took out a recording pen from her bag, connected it to her laptop, and prepared to play the audio she had recorded.
Static—nothing but static.
There was no sound, neither hers nor Matthew's.
"What's going on?" she muttered in frustration as she fiddled with the file, but it was the same throughout—just static.
After testing the recording pen again, she realized it wasn't faulty. It must have been interference from the reception room, or perhaps Matthew Horner himself had a jammer.
Nini took a deep breath. That Hollywood star was shrewd, bringing a jammer to a premiere like a spy.
Despite the lack of evidence, Nini quickly decided: she would still head to Los Angeles. Past experiences had proven that taking the international route often paid off better.
Meanwhile, at the hotel, Matthew met with various brand sponsors for the "Fast & Furious 4" premiere. Many of these sponsors were local, and Matthew valued their contributions, spending time talking with several of them.
With the rapid growth of the film market here, Hollywood would increasingly align with local capital, and brands from here would find ways to integrate into Hollywood productions. However, the challenge was ensuring that product placement didn't feel forced or jarring, as this could ruin the viewing experience.
Matthew had no intention of letting awkward product placements, like those that prompt audience laughter, appear in his films.
In the coming days, Matthew continued his promotional tour. When Jack arrived with the rest of the cast, the global premiere of "Fast & Furious 4" was just around the corner.
