Whispers broke through the crowd at the arrival of Varessa.
"It's her...!" The familiar face drew the reactions. A wave of awe, confusion, and fear swept through the stands.
It was no secret what had happened. Varessa had intentionally allowed the story to spread. Her pride wouldn't allow her shame to be hidden. Instead, she wrapped it in power and let the tale roam the halls like wildfire.
"I heard she almost killed Crystal when she arrived!" a learned mage spoke in a hushed but excited tone.
"If Crystal didn't trigger that Anima explosion, she would have died!" another confirmed, eyes wide.
"Why does she hate her so much?" another asked, leaning forward to catch every word.
"It's because Crystal is marrying the prince! Varessa was supposed to be the one! They say she was in love with him for years," one whispered with scandal in their voice.
