"May?" I call out.
The girl pauses, turning to look back at me, her hands clutching the stuffed rabbit tightly. Her eyes are wide and bright. "What's up, Auntie?"
I frown. "May, stay close to me."
I'd set her down on the ground to buy her a treat, and she immediately got over excited seeing a passing colorful caravan.
She frowns, but doesn't argue. Instead, she comes over to my side and grabs my hand. "Kay..."
"Thank you."
She looks down at her feet and then up at me again. "Sorry, Auntie. I got excited. I'll be good."
I nod and pat her head with my other hand. "It's alright. When we get to the park you can run free a little more."
"Okay!"
I smile and start walking again, with May holding my hand and keeping pace beside me. It takes a few moments before I realize she's humming under her breath.
She's so excited she's humming.
